I am making a Croatian HVO setup, and their M1 Helmets were set up kind of similar to the US Vietnam war helmets, thank you for making this video :]

Eh, I'm not sure I want to tackle that clusterfuck quite yet. I was involved in it, and most of it frustrates me quite extensively.

I always wondered what those bottles were, though I figured it was probably insect repellent or some kind of sanitizer. The gun oil never occurred to me, though. Appreciate the answer to the question. Interesting stuff to know, all the little details of actual life in the bush.

Funny, I never considered bug repellent but I always figured gun oil
@AimBitX2 жыл бұрын
I mean it’s useful to have gun oil especially for the early M16 having a lot of problems with the jungle before the m16a1 came in

The toilet paper out of your meal box was a must. If you put it in your pocket the sweat ruined it. Important to keep dru.

Hey Mike, know you haven't done an episode in this series for a long while, but have you thought about doing an episode on helmet cover graffiti? Maybe go over some common ones and some of your favorites.

Seen men of the 173rd with patches tucked in there in some instances. Not sure if other units did that too, is that something you've come across in period photos Mike? Or anyone else who reads this for that matter.

Yeah, but there's the factor of "who gives a shit" regarding regulations in the field that's still true to this day.
@Riceball015 жыл бұрын
Keywords being supposed to. Although, I'm sure that there were some officers that insisted on following regs to the T. I've heard stories of officers, usually at battalion level or higher, insisting on troops wearing full armor kit at all times.

Yeah. It's unit SOP (Like I said in the vid) and the fact that the bush was very different from garrison life.
