My dad carried his friend back to base after he was shot in the head. The bullet went through the front and somehow skimmed the side of his head. When he “got” a new helmet, he painted a “hole” and wrote “you missed”. Sadly, his friend died in a helicopter explosion that my dad survived.

The Vietnamese simply had little motivation to fight for the South Vietnamese government. It's like Iraq or Afghanistan. Not many want to fight and die for an American puppet government. South Korea, modern Japan and West Germany are the only examples where they did.
