We test out Tim Hamilton's sphericon projectiles to see how well they work at around mach 1.2. This shape was discovered around 1969 in the U.K. so it is relatively new in the realm of human creativity. How will this weird shape work as a projectile?

Much like it tumbles on a surface, it just tumbles wherever because that's what it's inclined to do. The stability I think is due to the spherical shape having a nice centering of balance & the pattern having symmetry.

Hey Jeff I just thought of something that could be kinda neat. I’ve always loved the lead plate as a target and now I like the aluminum too haha. Maybe next time you melt the lead plate sink a slightly smaller aluminum disk inside the pool of lead. This could be achieved by solidifying a smaller lead plate in the pan, then place the aluminum plate inside and secure it using wire or something. Then put more molten lead over top everything till it’s full. I think it would make the target that much cooler.

If you use the "" keys you can step through the video to observe the impact at 7:17. What's particularly interesting is that there are twin incandescent jets erupting from the impact along with several fragments that appear to be travelling many times faster than the original projectile.

The shot with the jugs: I think the best being blown back was from hydrostatic shock. The initial impact on the first jug caused all the liquid in the following jugs to compress, and the shockwave travelled through them and into the vest, throwing it across the birm.

SPEAKING of cooking tips... I just found out that if you have cheap and gritty hummus and a bag of white fish (pollock ?) you can make seasoned battered fish! I had BBQ hummus that wasn't so spicy, garlic hummus and a "taco" hummus which was more like cheddar and peppers. The garlic hummus had also used enough lemon in it to really taste great! Despite some getting burnt the fish were all perfectly moist inside.

Once again and marvelous production. Just for my observation and my notes that I've taken all that I take whale watching educational programs such as yourself even though you don't you no charge for this knowledge. And I'm not saying you should cuz I don't have money right now but anyways. At 7:17 in the video if you stop the video and change the playback speed to 0.25 meaning a quarter of normal speed. You'll see a lot more for longer. Like the pool table ball effect that when that bullet the sphericon. What was left and did not disintegrate spun in place as the plate started travel in the direction but the impact pushed it too and even as the LED plate starts to leave you and become invisible the almost half circle of lead which seems to be paper thin with spinning in place. Sorry I get a little windy but when you watch it 0.25 speed you'll see what I got excited about
