Paraklese API 12 ga. slugs - Slow Mo footage reveals serious flaws

We filmed this safely at a proper range so you can be safe both online and offline. P B and Jay wanted us to test out the Paraklese API rounds and was kind enough to send some samples. (we can see why this company ignored my request for samples, now) Certainly they did SOME testings and realized how bad these were performing but chose to sell them anyways. We evaluate these using a Chronos 1.4 high speed camera to show what you are really buying.
The aluminum plates were 6061.

@@recceeboy1237 "5083 aluminium alloy is an aluminium alloy with magnesium and traces of manganese and chromium." vs "Magnesium is highly flammable, especially when powdered or shaved into thin strips, though it is difficult to ignite in mass or bulk. Flame temperatures of magnesium and magnesium alloys can reach 3,100 °C (5,610 °F),[16] although flame height above the burning metal is usually less than 300 mm (12 in).[17] Once ignited, such fires are difficult to extinguish, because combustion continues in nitrogen (forming magnesium nitride), carbon dioxide (forming magnesium oxide and carbon), and water (forming magnesium oxide and hydrogen, which also combusts due to heat in the presence of additional oxygen). This property was used in incendiary weapons during the firebombing of cities in World War II, where the only practical civil defense was to smother a burning flare under dry sand to exclude atmosphere from the combustion. @cr4zyj4ck

@@Bialy_1 when you hit metals really hard on one face, the energy can transfer through them and cause chunks of the metal to fly off of the other face, even if the thing hitting the metal, such as a projectile, does not penetrate. You can see evidence of that in this video - after being shot with the dumbbell round, the lead plate had chunks missing from the back side, but the round did not penetrate. This blasting of material out the back of armor is called spalling. The fiberglass anti spalling liner on the aluminum armor of the m113 was in place to catch any of the spalled material that might eject into the passenger compartment. The spalling material flies off at great speed, and can seriously injure anyone in its path. Fiberglass, having many long strands embedded in a plastic resin, is able to resist penetration from spalling metals by spreading the force out over a larger area. The fiberglass liner is placed on the back side of the armor.
@michaelblacktree
@michaelblacktree 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, and some anti-tank rounds are actually designed to create spalling on impact, to incapacitate the crew. Hence the need for spall liners.

The most fascinating thing I saw, was the air being moved as the 1" plate vibrated from being hit by the "dumbell". Watch closely, because at first I thought it was just heat waves, seeing as you guys are out there in the valley. But it dawned on me, that any heat waves in the background, would simply not be in focus at that range. The energy from the impact, makes the metal vibrate so fast, as to create visible sound waves as it "pings" through the air!

I've followed the channel for years, and beyond the interesting physics, stunning footage, and delightful commentary, I also enjoy seeing the progression as you and your viewers learn more about how this stuff works. @@DaveTex2375 Pepsi doesn't care if the money is coming from Pepsi or crystal Pepsi. They're the same company. If Pepsi could make 2x more money, if they discontinued regular Pepsi and replaced it with crystal Pepsi, they would.

@@DaveTex2375 Saying it was a hit is a bit of an overstatement. It was undeniably a failure from a marketing standpoint, it just wasn't as bad as people said/thought.

Suggestion: A collab with Elemental Maker: shoot a plate of his magnesium-aluminum alloy, and see what kind of sparks you get from that with the dumbbell slug.

Fun video keep them coming. Computer nerd information to follow: WD Black label HDD are designed for performance not long term reliability. Black label drives have been superseded by SSD's for this application. Black label HDD's spin at 7,200 or 10,000 rpm they are not designed to last like Red or Green label HDD's which are 5,400 rpm drives. The bearings usually are the fail point in HDDs, which then tend to eat the edges of the platters. Platters being the spinning disks inside a HDD. That said as long as the platter is intact the data is recoverable. Your method of platter destruction is the most fun way I have seen to destroy HDD data for data security purposes in a while.
