I think a big problem with Michonne is that it had to tie so close to comics canon. The main series had a few fan service-y connections to the comics, but then went off to areas unexplored by Kirkman. With a major character like Michonne, you know shes safe because it takes place in a an existing narrative gap, and nothing can happen that contradicts the main comic.

Totally. It's a story that needed strong side characters that you wanted to see survive that don't appear in the comics to give people a reason to get immersed. It doesn't really answer any longstanding questions about Michonne or give us a new perspective in which to see her like Saul Goodman in Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul. It's an okay game that's not exactly terrible but it doesn't do anything unique. This was during a time I think Telltale thought they could 'recapture' the comic book audience (who were already playing) which is why I think they included Jesus in ANF.

Hey would you look at that! For once I prefer what we got in the final game over the cut content! I think it's pretty obvious that Rashid and Vanessa simply evolved into the Fairbanks family. I strongly believe James and Alex were originally Rashid and Vanessa's kids....just that originally Alex was supposed to be a girl. And that Fairbanks house was supposed to be Rashid's and Vanessa's house. Now one could ask....wait a minute. Weren't they supposed to be a part of some sort of community like Norma's? If they weren't how did they trade with Pete? Well....do you remember what Episode 1 was originally titled? "Demons and Liars". I strongly believe the plot twist of Episode 1 was that Rashid and Vanessa were NEVER part of ANY community. That all the supplies they traded with Pete were STOLEN FROM NORMA. They then traded them with Pete and LIED where they got them from. We would find Rashid and Vanessa dead in their house but James and Alex still there. It would be become clear that Rashid and Vanessa were stealing from Norma ajd trading with Pete to keep their kids alive and well. We would get the final showdown with Norma in their house. When it became clear that Michonne should have visions of her DAUGHTERS both Rashid and Vanessa stopped being important beyond having Pete and Michonne run into Norma's group. Thus they were abandoned and their roles got given to Sam and Greg in Episode 1 I.E stealing from Norma and getting these supplies back home where in addition to James and Alex both John and Paige were created. Boom. Mystery solved.

It's insane how often telltale had to completely rework their games last minute and still pushed out really great narratives I played the entire franchise over and over again, enraptured by each title. Never knew any of the development history, just what the game was giving me and i personally was never disappointed In any title, even season 3. Knowing now from all your videos, it does pain me greatly, the idea of what we lost, what those devs sacrificed. But it's a marvel nevertheless

Super glad you're back man, I actually vividly remember watching your videos in the morning years ago, particularly Season 2 not only because it's my favourite season but because of how many changes it clearly went through and definitely the most interesting cut content of all the games. TWDG Michonne is underrated imo, the villains are great and the vibe captures the comics really well. Excited to watch this, will probably save this for after exams for a chill summer day lol.

(I wonder if we'd always know Rashid was dead, or we'd stumble on his corpse or something and realize he was just a hallucination. I remember coming across Rashid's model in the files after the game first came out. Wondered if it was unused and there was another texture for his dead body somewhere, or if he was gonna appear later on in another episode. Honestly, it really felt like they were thrown away from the plot. Like everyone just forgot about them. Not even a short dialogue sequence where the group suggest that the two must've been killed by Monroe (which Kent Mudle later confirmed to be the case, years afterward). I wish at least one of them did appear in Sam's house at the end and helped the characters fight in the final episode, that would've made for a better story even as a small addition. This kind of plot throw away that Telltale were often known for, really annoyed me. I'm amazed how they got away with this for as long as they did, the things we looked over because of how much we continued applauding them for more of their content, lol. Those were some good times... Still hope yet. Wonder how Wolf Among Us 2 is looking...

It for sure was noticed by people at the time, Telltale were just notoriously silent about the goings-on. I did a bit of research on the forums before this and someone did ask one of the lead devs about Rashid's model and while she was very open talking about other stuff she straight up said she wasn't allowed to talk about Rashid/Vanessa meaning it was likely a directive from management to not talk about changes, probably because they felt it made them look bad/messy (and they were right). It caught up to them in the end. They got millions in a Lionsgate deal for a 'supershow' that never came to fruition which might have prolonged them a bit more. Hard to believe it was that long ago. As for Wolf 2... well...

I think you should cover cut content in Game Of Thrones next. One possible changed content is Malcom Branfield, in the credits he's incorrectly listed as a Forrester, this could possibly mean that he was originally intended to be Gregor's brother instead of Elissa's.

Nope. As I explained at the end, it's a lot of work and I haven't played either of the games. AFAIK Expanse was made by Deck Nine and not Telltale (they only published it) and there's not a whole lot that was changed from what I can see. I think Batman had one major changes involving the Penguin but I'm not so sure. Better to leave it for someone else.

Thanks, I do give a brief story overview in the beginning but if you want to play it yourself it's a pretty short game, only about 3 - 4 hours long. It's... fine I guess. The cut stuff is more interesting than the game itself for me.

I feel like what would’ve happened is in episode 1/2 Vanessa would’ve been killed, probably by Norma and rashid would’ve ran, barely surviving but we go searching for him and find at an abandoned house to which he is hostile to michionne, not knowing her at first. Maybe it a determinant choice on whether to kill him or convince him to join to which he come with to sams family house. Maybe he died anyway and was buried. This is just a guess but I think it was just a side plot that went along the main plot, cut for time or for stupid reasons
