I think you guy should do a wrap up 2 hr episode, the grownup kids returning to the mountain to say goodbye to Daddy, reminisce about growing up on Walton’s mt with flashbacks from previous episodes. Mention could be made of those who have died like the Godseys and Baldwin sisters. Viewers could see what became of the Walton kids etc. You could write and pitch it, Judy.

I was thinking what would/could it be. You are right..that is a great idea for a storyline. Anyone still alive that didn't feel up to it, could do something like Andy Griffith did when Aunt Bee just phone in her part...If the people that care and continue (like Judy - those like her) - were involved, the chance of the quality could happen...
@megfuchs942511 ай бұрын
This isn't a bad idea. It would only work if it was the siblings looking back. They did something like this called " A decade of the Walton's." It appears at the end of the season 8 DVD. ( They counted from the time the Homecoming came out).

Great to hear Jon talk about the Walton's and life in general. It would be nice to do one more Walton reunion special with the remaining surviving cast just sitting at the kitchen table just reminiscing either in character or as themselves about the different episodes. But only do this when all original cast members schedule can accommodate. It would be a great way to even acknowledge those cast members who have passed. That would be awesome.

Thanks for the interview with John Walmsley. I watched Waltons religiously for at least two decades of my life and now I own a set of the full episodes, all seasons (except the last one). Anyway, as a musical child, I harbored a crush on the character of Jason. I often still have dreams of being born in that time and capturing Jason's heart with my musical talent. Haha. I'm probably too much of a dreamer to ever have fit into that family but sometimes I feel like the eighth Walton sibling.

Jon knows my favorite episode with Jason is 'The Choice'. It is an awesome episode. One of the best written and directed episodes of the series. It was also the most pivotal episode because it was about Jason and John-Boy's careers. Richard messed up his ankle at the same time Jon had his hand problem. Jon's hair also changed during those early 5th season episodes. Some of the fans noticed it and thought Jason has been recast. No more reunions--Earl Hamner is gone!!! Judy, I have one of your CDs!!!

I just watched the episode wth Merle Haggard last night. It was a great episode. The substory with Yancy getting up the nerve to ask Cissy to marry him was also a hoot. Knowing that they were actually married in real life, that love seemed to show through. I was sad to hear that they divorced. I'm happy to say that Nancy survived the sugery and may be home by Saturday but we had a close call. After she complained about excruciating pain that should not be there, the doctors took her back to surgery and discovered a blood clot that would have paralyzed her if not found and corrected and also part of one bone was pressing against her major nerve to her leg so they had to shave the bone. She seems to be doing well now and I can't wait for her to come home.

Yes John. and she's coming home today. I don't know iif Judy filled you in on my situatiin but since i became verry ill in 2019 I have become a partial shut-in because my medications interfere with the Covid vaccine so I can't go out too many places. Also since I need whee;l chair to walk for more than the distances in my home, i cannot go alone. So I rely on Nancy. My fear was that she would end up paralyzed and we's both be unable to care for ourselves. i don't want to go to a nursing home. Well the other thing i want to tell you is to thank you for your work on "The Waltons". I didn't get to see the show when it first came out because during the time from 1972 to1981 I went to law school, worked construction in northern Maine where I met Nancy , married her in 1974, graduated from law school in 1975, passed the bar in 1976, entered the Air Force with an officers commission, moved from Illinois to San Antonio Texas, had two of my three daughters, and finished my Air Force committment in August of 1981. Not much TV time, But when I was recuperating fro 3 months in the hospital I discovered the show and have been an avid fan since. So much so that i have followed and corresponded with Judy here since i discovered this site and even travelled to Logan County to meet her and Mary Beth. They both are such sweethearts, I wish I would have met all of you back when, I wish I could have been part of the show, but I'm a couple of years older than RIchard so the writers would have had a real problem figuring out where I came from since John was supposed to be in France fighting WWI. As I told Judy, there are so many things about that show that mirror my own life that it fascinates me every time I watch it. She can fill you in on some of that, Thanks so much for writing back. I have always admiired your musical abilities and your characterization of Jason. Wish I could come to England again to meet you but I can no longer fly-as I need to use oxygen. I have been to Europe four times and to London twice back in the days of the Beatles, Carnaby Street, and the 'British Invasion" it was interesting to say the least though i did't ge to Liverpool.

Yes but I wrote too soon. Unfortunately complications set in and she had t undego more surgery. She came home but she was having problems with the way the wound was draining so much fluid so she went back to the hospital this morning for another MRI and more surgery. My daughter called about two hours ago and said she just came out of recovery so I will probably hear tomorrow morning as to her condition. John sent a nice message to me. Judy, I've enjoyed ALL your interviews, but, none more than with Jon Walmsey. The "flow" between the two of you is so easy. Jon, you were the reason I took up guitar and years later mandolin. If only I possessed even half your skill! 👏👏 A possible idea for a reunion...using those remaining/willing cast members and pick-up where the Real-Life Hamners would be at this stage of life?? Just a suggestion. I was 13 when The Walton's premiered. To this day, it is my favorite program!❤ Even if a network would be willing to produce a "new version", I don't suppose these times would make it the success it was then....the times of respect, wholesomeness, neighborly love, etc have ridden into the sunset. But, more than that, the talented cast could never be rivaled!! Hope to see more interviews. Love to all. God bless...

Greetings to Judy's Superfan in cold England😁 I've caught up with the dynamic Jon Walmsley interviews, What an exhilarating treat that was! DarkVader, I would have to agree. As much as a reunion is coveted, the enormity of those memorable characters that have passed would be too deeply felt, and the pressure of the remaining cast to fill that emptiness for the audience might be too tall of an order. @@darkvader7231 DarkVader - remember your "Top 5 Walton Episodes question" many months ago? I think it needs to be reasked as "Top 200+". 🤩 Recently I rewatched "The Unthinkable:" with guest star Todd Susman playing Ted Lipinski who comes to stay for the weekend with Jason and his family. Jon's chemistry with Todd and the storyline was Emmy-award-worthy! Amongst Jon's outstanding storylines, this was definitely one of my top fav episodes. I especially loved the ballad they sang together as Jason played the guitar. superb acting once again! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

@@LisaLisa-2023 Yes I remember this episode well, that Lipinski was picked on in the army..but his true worth soon shone through.

@@darkvader7231 I think Todd Susman as Ted Lipinski was in 2 episodes? Since Jon Walmsley's 4 part special here, a resurge of impactful episodes where Jon leads comes to mind: He helps Verde find her ancestry, He is deliberating about joining the military, and his friendship with Ted Lipinski. There are many more, but I can't name the episodes It is only 6:00AM in a rainy damp chilly NYC. The top 200+ continues. Thanks, DarkVader.

Judy, I had the pleasure of binge watching the Waltons today. The episode of when the house caught fire and the family was split up aired. I love all the episodes but particularly that episode, which was very emotional. I must say each of you, the cast, are /were great actors. Every time i watch, i see something i missed before, and the message changes, if ever so slightly. I believe that's reflective of what's going on in my life and the storyline connecting at that level. After all this time, watching the Waltons is one of my favorite things. Best Regards, Randy

I apologize if you have answered this question. I don't have time right now to look back through all the comments. But, did Jon struggle with trying to speak without a British accent? I had no idea that he was British. Love this interview!

@@jonwalmsleymusic Oh, my gosh! I got a personal answer from Jon! I was really excited when Judy answered me too - in a previous video! I guess I didn’t realize it would be possible to talk without an accent. Especially someone so young. I also didn’t realize you were Christopher Robbin! Such an adorable little voice you had. ☺️

I agree! Jon Walmsley has a very animated, strong and captivating (singing) voice. From the many Walton episodes where he sang melodies and even drilled his army soldiers, his voice was quite fitting for his characters and appealing to the audience. His vocal range (like Judy's) is impressive, he can sing slow ballads and good ol' rock and roll blues. 🎸😁

One of my very favorite episodes in the whole series was, "Grandma Comes Home", and one of the most endearing scenes, in my opinioin, was when Jason was playing the piano with Grandma. No ceremony, no special treatment, just playing the piano. May be simple to most, but I love it so much. Thanks or interviewing Jon!! 😊 One last thing. I know that you said that a second Christmas cd was not even a consideration at this point in time, but that doesn't mean I can't make suggestions for songs...lol!! No, the two I'm thinking about are not the same old same old that we have heard over and over and over again. The first was the one I suggested last year, "Merry Christmas" , originally sung by Judy Garland (there's a video on youtube), and one that Kate Bush sang years ago, called, "Christmas Eve in my Hometown". Both are right up your alley, and both are wonderful. Just asking that you keep it in mind somewhere down the road, possibly. :)

Hi Judy and Jon. One of my favorite Jason Walton episodes is The Breakdown. Season 4 Episode 6. I also love those episodes directed by the late great Ivan Dixon The Breakdown really gave a better insight into the character. The reminder that Jason is definitely the Son of John and Olivia Walton and Grandson of Zebulon and Esther. Jason is hardworking, kind, intelligent, dependable. It's just a wonderfully well performed episode. Thank you Judy and John. This was indeed a "treat." Perhaps a Christmas album with the two of you next year is a possibility. Happy Holidays to you both and to all those you love. 😊

Thanks Judy, I enjoyed hearing from Jon and look forward to hearing from many of the others in the future. Every year at this time I put together our family Holiday reunion which we just held this past Sunday. A game called the ornament game was introduced about 15 years ago that we now play every year. Everyone brings an ornament, I take turns asking each one a trivia question if they get it right they pass their ornament to the left, if they miss it they trade their's with me. This year the questions were from old TV shows. As I was coming up with the questions I found out that Danny Bonaduce's sister, Cilia, made one acting appearance on TV. My question was on what show did she make her one and only appearance on. While researching this question I found out the answer was The Waltons. I goggled it and found it was the episode when Jason was trying to win the scholarship to Klineb urge, she was the girl he was competing against in the episode. I found this very interesting. Do you have any interesting tidbits like that you could share with us? As always take care, stay safe and GOD BLESS.

Sounds like a fun family game. I discovered that same piece of “trivia” when I talked about that episode. We have had any number of trivia worthy guests.

Thanks so much, Judy and Jon for sharing with us! The Gift was truly moving! You were all so young, yet able to portray deep emotions. All you Walton's in character and life are a real joy for us! I hope you two do collab a musical project! And, contrary to Richard's saying he's not a singer, I thought he sang beautifully while demonstrating the dulcimer. What kind of reunion do you think perhaps Earl might approve? It's apparent the series influenced fans worldwide! I once dreamed there was a lottery where fans who won could be extras on the show! Wishing you both a Merry Christmas and good New Year. Blessings to Waltons everywhere ❤

I so enjoyed listening to Jon and hearing about his life during and after The Waltons and his musical career. He is a very interesting person and so down to earth. Judy I am carrying on with my tradition to watch The Homecoming each Christmas season. It is such a special episode to me. The show transforms me back to a sweet and simpler era and it also transforms me back to the first time I saw the show when I was a young 16 years old. The show gave me wonderful feelings at that age as it still does today. You kids were so cute and Patricia was the perfect mom for that particular role. I have always said Michael could not have done The Homecoming like Patricia and Patricia could not have carried the series on as well as Michael. I have to tell you Judy that I have to put my mind at ease when watching now because of all of the inside information on how the shows are made. I blank out thinking of camera people, sound people, lighting people and so on standing right out of the camera view. I just bought an 85 inch tv, it is on the wall and this is the first time I have seen The Homecoming on such a large screen. It immerses you in the show almost making you feel like you are there. Next I am going to watch The Best Christmas episode. I also have the "new" Homecoming which I do like but it can never match the feeling of the original. It just does not have the same feeling of the era like the original. I have always wondered about the city lady missionary. Was she a little off? Did she know Elizabeth's doll was broken or did she not? Were all of the gifts broken or not? I question her mind when she said The BlueRidge mountains were filled with heathens. Did she misspeak or was she a little nuts? Loved the Baldwins too. I wonder who lit all of those candles on the tree and chandelier? I know it was done for effect for a beautiful scene but in real life I wonder who would have done that for them. I guess Hawthorne.
@judynorton259811 ай бұрын
So glad you continue to watch and enjoy The Homecoming each year. I think the missionary lady was just meant to be single minded in her view of folks like those of Waltons Mountain. There was probably something a bit “off” about all the gifts as they were second hand. That tree at the Baldwins was amazing with all the real candles. Hard to think who would have lit and blown out the candles each day. I think you’re right about Hawthorne as he worked for them.
