She was the most beautiful Walton’s girl easily. No contest, A natural beauty.
@billgrandone35524 ай бұрын
@@brookehanley3659 No. Judy just matured earlier in the show than Mary Beth and Kami but when they all grew up they all were really stunning beauties. I did not see "The Waltons" when the original show was on the air. But as a retiree I can binge watch them now and see all nine seasons in 6 or so months. Watching Mary Beth and Kami grow from child and pre-teen to womanhood is like watching beautiful flowers grow and bloom on stop action photography. Whoever told any of them that they were not pretty enough for future work must be the same jerks that have come up with the crap that is television now.

Well I won't dispute your right to a preference, but when you compare the women in pictures when they all matured, all three girls are beautiful, and age has not changed that. Having met Judy and Mary Beth in person just last April, I can vouch for that and i am proud to have met both of them. Hoping to meet them and the rest of the cast in the near future;

It's one our favorite parte of the show, comments, questions, and feedback. Have to say to John if your here. Thank you for sharing your wealth of experiences, and memories. Having you as a regular guest is always a memorable experience. Thanks again to Judy for making it happen. 30 minutes is like a CBS special presentation in two parts. I was surprised that you never made it into the prop warehouse but then again I'm Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area and have never been to Alcatraz Island,or the Fairmont Hotel. My grandfather even worked there in the 1930s. I did have the opportunity to visit some prop warehouses in West Hollywood 30 years ago my friend worked there as a rental attendant. He always knew the latest movie or TV show coming up because of the set designers coming through renting props. It was very interesting to walk through the warehouse the went from block to block separated by streets. It was like going to a antique, thrift, museum store. So much to look at. He could point out things used for different shows and movies. If they are still there perhaps you might take a walk through you never know what you might recognize. Other than that always enjoy whatever you have lined up

@@LisaLisa-2023 muy Bien gracias, it was very cool to see all the props and how some were altered or painted different colors. I was there around the time they were getting ready to do the New Brady Bunch movie. It was also felt like a auction houses with little cubicles filled with many smaller items as if the were going to dress a cluttered bathroom sink counter. I'm guessing those private prop warehouses. Are still there. I haven't been down to Los Angeles in 30 years now. It certainly is nice to hear from John Dayton, and chime in here in the comments. The upside of social media. Once again you two make me smile! I agree, Judy, they should have told you other productions were interested in you as an actress for their shows! Of all the things that are right about The Walton's, Casting gets at least three gold stars because...well, because you all were/are in every way just perfect. Not only were you able to enact Earl's stories, you were able to attract fans to both the characters and yourselves. And, further, as people ~ you all have gone above and beyond by extending friendship to your loving fans, by continuing to represent in every way all that's good about humans ~ the very theme of Mr Hamner's love and admiration for his family! You mentioned that visual authenticity seemed missing from the remake of The Homecoming! There wasnt enough dust, grime, and poverty!! John Boy's room looked like perhaps the best B&B in Staunton, Va or Richmond, certainly not Schuyler ~a backwoods, mountain company town whose only industry folded in the Great Depression! Even the dust smudges on John Boy's overalls (in the original) were artistic, evocative, authentic. Hearing all the names you mentioned in connection with producing the Walton's, I've always wondered who was/is Andy White? His name was featured prominently in the credits. Finally, what I wouldn't give to roam the Prop building John described. The older I get, the more nostalgia wraps its arms around me. I miss my Grandmother's 1940s wallpaper, carpet, linoleum, barkcloth drapes, and furniture. She had a few decor items like the Walton's parrot! Thank you John and Judy! You make the world a better place by being you! Much love to Walton's everywhere!❤🙏🕊️

I love listening to John and his recollection of the production days of The Waltons. He is such a pleasure to listen to. You made a comment on the remake of The Homecoming not having the same period feel of the original. I 110 percent agree with you. The inside of the store was much more modern looking than it should have been. It was more like the fifties. The Walton house was way too modern looking for the time. John Boy's room looked more like the sixties and a nice fireplace in it. What a stark difference. Also the church was too fancy for the rural area and times too. It all made for a lovely picture and heartwarming show which I did like but it wasn't even close to the original Homecoming. The original made you feel like you were in a rural area and it felt like you were transported to the thirties. The remake felt more like the house was in a more modern neighborhood. I have said it once and I will say it over and over again. The original Homecoming was a special show that created a special feeling and no matter what you do it can't be duplicated which is why it should be left alone. It stands on its own. With all of that being said I did truly enjoy the new Homecoming but it wasn't The Homecoming. It should have been called something else.

Fascinating about how the Warner Brothers Prop Warehouse had ZILLIONS of vintage items ready to be used for the show at any moment. Yeah, now I wonder if those old cans that Jim-Bob knocked over might very well have STILL contained tomatoes,etc. BTW, at DisneyWorld in Florida one can see BOTH halves of the airplane where Rick and Ilsa said goodbye in 'Casablanca' due to it having been sawed in half at some point but then each half traced and brought to the park. Oh, and speaking of fave props, it should be noted that when 'The Addams Family' was ending, the crew took it upon themselves to 'commandeer' Morticia's wicker chair and presented it to Carolyn Jones who proudly displayed it in her own bedroom to the end of her life!

That made for a very interesting time. Thank you Judy and John. I am so glad that all of the kids seemed to have survived the post child star years without tragedy. i know there were some bad times and marrage difficulty, but heck, where is it written that people in the movie or TV industry are somehow inoculated from the misfortunes of life? I do wish the show would have continued. Some like Ben and Cindy and possibly Elizabeth would have stayed on the mountain. You, Erin, and Jim Bob would be close by, maybe in Richmond or Charlottesville. And John and Richard would be out and about in the world as John gave up the bar to write music in Nashville and Hollywood. So the stories would not necessarily take place on the mountain, but each person would star in and episode or part of one where they are located. Oh, I have to tell you, after that great interview with Michael O'Keefe, I watched "The Great Santini" and he was terriffic. But now he is imitatiing my life. There is a scene in the movie where his charater turns 18 and his father lets him get drunk on martinis until he passes out. They then go home to where a birthday party is waiting for him but his dad is carrying him to bed. The rest of he family is not pleased My brother in law, second cousin, and uncle did the same thing to me when I was nineteen. My cousin owned a bar and I and my brother went up before hours on Sunday to get some crushed ice that he sold.. I had a couple of beers when my uncle came through the door and my cousin asked him why he was here. Uncle Jim said he came for my nineteenth birthday. My cousin Stan lined up nineteen glasses of beer on the bar and told me to go for it. I was working on my third when he did that but i managed to get down ten more before the phone rang. It was my sister wondering why it was taking two hours to get some ice.. They snuck me into the house but I still had to make an appearance at the dinner table where my four year old nephew ratted me out because i must have reeked from beer. Needless to say everyone involved caught a stiff ration of Holy Hell from my mother. Pass this on to Michael if you would . he might get a laugh or two.

A disadvantage of being a young actor in a period show is that fun field trips were limited. Had you been cast as Marcia on the Brady Bunch instead you would have had fun trips to Hawaii & an amusement park in Ohio. But the stability you had with the Waltons allowed you to develop solid relationships with cast mates that have spanned a lifetime. Compare that with the relationships between the Brady kids or the Partridge Family kids and those have not been so positive!

Good points :). Fortunately, work has still given the opportunity to do a lot of traveling. So no complaints on that front.

Thanks Judy, Kami was in a show that was canceled right before they started filming The Waltons called Me and the Chimp. I don't remember ever watching it but have seen chips from it and think I would have enjoyed it. I thinking while listening to you and John if could go back in time, was there anything from the show you would change. I know there would a least 4 or 5 things I would change. The first the episode where you learn Curt us still alive would have never happened. Second I would not have ended the show after the 9th season. In the movie specials from the 90's Erin would have still been married, divorce was not that common in the 60's has it is today and I would have have included John Curtis and Ben and Cindy's two children. As always take care, stay safe and God Bless.

Judy, the first print dress that Michael Learned wore for the first press pictures was actually worn by Vera Miles in 'The FBI Story' in 1959. It hung there for about 12 years. Judy, I kept telling Earl he should do a conclusion. I know that the 9th season Earl suggested they change the name to "The Young Waltons". But CBS said no. They said: see if you can get Ralph back for the last season. 'The Revel' was like a conclusion to a certain extent. I think the best episode Scott did was 'The Threshold' about television. I hope you talk to him about that one. I have heard of Pam Polifroni because she cast a lot of CBS shows. Ethel Winant did also. Ethel wanted Michael and Fred Silverman did not.

Scott Hamner wrote some wonderful episodes - talented like his dad. It seemed to me that he knew it would be the last episode. The wonderful dialog is written with that in mind. Hi again, hon! The following I culled from two previous comments I made on previous segments of your channel: All the vehicles were provided for use on The Waltons by a place in Buena Park owned by two brothers with the last name of Brueker. The place was originally named Movie World: Cars Of Stars And Planes Of Fame. The brothers also supplied all the vehicles seen on Happy Days. They acquired quite a unique collection of various vehicles as well as television and movie props over the years their enterprise was in operation. Among the most esoteric items they had on display in glass cases early on were the very last pair of custom created foam rubber pointed ear makeup appliances worn by the now late actor, Leonard Nimoy in portraying the character of Mister Spock in the very last scene ever filmed of the original Star Trek science fiction television series. They also had the 14 foot long largest filming miniature of the fictional nuclear powered futuristic submarine the Seaview from the Irwin Allen television series Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea. They had a few more miniatures from classic films starring the late great John Wayne. Among their more iconic original vehicles they had Big Ed Daddy Roth’s Rat Fink Car which could actually be driven all though it was electrically powered by batteries. In the latter years of their venue’s existence they closed down the Planes Of Fame portion of the facilities, and completely reconfigured their Cars Of The Stars into a diorama type thematic approach to displaying their most recognizable vehicles and props. Among their most famous vehicles was the black “49 Mercury coupe James Dean drove in the landmark film Rebel Without A Cause. They also had on display the original costume MGM created to depict the most famous fictional robot of all time, Robby The Robot in the equally landmark motion picture Forbidden Planet. Focusing specifically on that old green truck mentioned that was the mainstay vehicle of the Waltons TV series: the Brueker Brothers Movieworld supplied Lorimar a 1929 Ford AA (Double “A”) One Ton Commercial Fleet Type Pick Up. Ford contracted with outside custom shops for their fleet customers which included cities as well as big and small companies along with corporations to build whatever type of bodies were required on Ford’s AAs (Double “A”s) which consisted of a beefier Model A chassis with a dualie rear axle fitted with two heavy duty tires on two bud wheels on either end of that axle, a set of two more of the same wheels and tires - one at either end of the front steerable axle, a higher torc compression tuned Model A engine, a full front end “clip” which means the entire front end exterior - including fenders, running boards, engine cowl with dual side opening center hinged hood, radiator, and headlights, and a full dashboard along with a front floorboard fitted with standard controls - i. e. steering wheel,gas, brake, and clutch peddles as well as a manual transmission shifter. That all was what Ford built, then turned over to whichever custom shop they were contracting with. That entire base setup I just described was then fitted out by those shops with various types of custom bodies. That one ton pickup on the show was among several of those bodies which included police paddy wagons, hospital ambulances, post office delivery vans, milk deliver vans, wreckers for hauling other vehicles, moving vans - they were the backbone of industry on many levels. So it made perfect sense that John Walton as a carpenter and such would have an example of Ford’s heavy duty line of trucks for his type of work! Hope you enjoyed learning that bit of background on the Waltons’ family vehicle!

Studio “executives” were utterly disrespectful, cowardly, etc., in not telling the cast & perhaps crew too of the plans to end the series OR to continue with movies AND in not giving you all a caring gathering to honor your longstanding commitment and teamwork - on which the studio obviously relied and greatly benefitted! You’ve all created your lives a new for decades. But destructive choices and absence of standards remain that. Thanks for all the caring choices we’ve benefitted from, from all of you. ~With new deliveries here, twice a week!

It would be interesting to know if the Art Dept even knew the pattern on that furniture. If they were sourced from Warner Bros stock, they likely fit the period and look and were pulled and whoever made that decision might not have known the name of the pattern.

Judy I was told many times over the years that my mothers mother was 13 when she got married. My grandfather was 14 or 15 and they were chopping cotton one day and on their lunch break went to a preacher and got married. She had 7 children and my mother was the youngest. I think it was pretty common for that time period because I’ve known many elderly people who talked about getting married very young and those marriages lasted a lifetime.
