This is one of the few wars that could've changed a lot in Austrian history. While losing Silesia obviously hurt Austria, the League of Nyphemburg (the alliance of Austria's enemies) planned to do much worse things. In the Treaty of Nyphemburg several countries such as France, Prussia, Spain, Bavaria, etc. planned to partition the Habsburg Monarchy, only leaving a Hungarian rump state in the east. If the League of Nyphemburg completely succeeded with their plans, Austria would not exist today. It should be noted that Austria's situation was incredibly difficult in 1741, considering they lost two previous wars. But thankfully, Maria Theresa appointed competent commanders such as Khevenhüller and Otto von Traun to defend Austria. The battle of St. Pölten pushed back the Franco-Bavarian invaders from Austria, plus capturing 10,000 French troops in Linz and completely conquering Bavaria. Although Austria had to deal later with a new northern rival, its army was at least competent enough as, unlike WW1 for example, Austria had no foreign help in 1741 and yet still survived. Maria Theresa was thus a quite competent empress at defending Austria and also later introducing mandatory education.

Yes, mandatory education for noble children...you have to remember that the vast majority of Austria's population at the time were farmers and children helped their parents year round with the farm work. Maybe some non-noble children received private education (like sons of important or wealthy people like army generals), but there was no way to enforce mandatory education in the sense that we think of it today.

Fun fact : Austria offered to give Belgium to France if it didn't partake the war. But Louis XV said: "I won't buy a merchant peace" and also "we won't betray our good friend Prussia"

Louis the 15 was under the influence of Mme of Pompadour. He completly gave up all the gain he could have. We also allied whit Austria instead of Prussia. We paid Louis 15 incompetence during the seven years war wich will be part of the cause of the french revolution.
