I was underwhelmed by the number of letters. By the end you realize they really didn’t even get that many. The ferret and the girl in bed were freaky events, but by the end it feels like “Really? @haydencooper_2 жыл бұрын
I kept thinking what if they just ignored the letters and threw them straight into the bin without reading them?
@ChristopherMichael1802 жыл бұрын
@@haydencooper_ I agree so much. It was also so insane how they found that tunnel and then it’s like that plot point just evaporated. Also, there are so many more ways they could have tried to find their home’s vulnerable points. I remember my boarding school had a special tape rigged on every window that would change color if the seal was lifted to discourage kids from sneaking out. There are ways you could combine deadbolt door and window systems with that tamperproof tape to isolate the activity. Or the paranormal activity trick where you coat the floor in baking flour. Or any myriad of booby traps involving specialty adhesives. I feel like you could even use a high end stud Finder to try to map out potential oddities in your walls and floors. Granted, I’d probably ditch the house-but for Bobby’s character arc to go down the path of delusional obsession, he exhausted so few crafty options to actually fix or the solve the issue. It’s like watching someone aggressively running in a giant hamster wheel. Furiously expending energy without actually making any progress. 🫠 It’s like anyone who has ever watched Home Alone would have had more craftiness trying to rig/protect their home.

Personally I loved it! Its definitely not for everyone, but I'm a big fan of fun, interesting dialog, zany characters, ambiguous endings, and spooky aesthetics, so it really did the job for me. There were definitely a few "Why would anyone go about things like that?" moments such as when they didnt investigate the tunnels more/ set up a trap, when they let the detective dick them around, when they weren't more upset with the security guy for putting a camera in their bedroom etc.; but a lot of the character motivations actually made a lot sense even if their actions were irrational (how often do people act rationally in real life?), so I thought the writing was good despite those flaws I mentioned.

So many things that didn't pay off which was annoying because the series (the makers, more like) sets it up as something that's gonna be really clever and intense. It's either super intentional or not so great writing? I don't know. Where did Big Mo's husband go and why did he die? Why is the arugula growing on the Brannock's fence if they live across the street? Why is the police chief so shady? Ughh. It's giving Twin Peaks but not as innovative 🤷🏾♀️

Okay, you guys missed like a thousand things in the show that you were supposed to get. The relationship with Theodora and Dean and family was deeper, that's why she wanted Dean to have peace and not be obsessed with the house, because she knew that it would ruin his life; she did that out of love. And you mentioned that there was no supernatural element, they're actually is an implied supernatural element through the whole show: like the girl in the bedroom, The people who seem to stare at the house and then walk away, The Watcher himself or herself, and the figure that's in the stairs in the end may or may not be actual person -- because they never show a face at all, just black robes/hoods. Watch it again, guys, I think the theme here is that the house itself is possessed, or something along those lines. The obsession of the human characters over the house is why there is all this cult nonsense, and why those neighbors are always watching the house; the house creates 'watchers'. And you guys missed that the letter Karen receives is different from the rest, it says something like 'welcome to your nightmare!' You also missed that Nora is obsessed with the house, too, as you see her pull up by it, after Dean leaves. Eh.

Also, I forgot to mention my personal theory. I think pretty much everyone was the watcher at some point. The neighbors/ the preservation society, the detective, Karen, the Dad, the Mom, even the kids might have contributed at some point. I think everyone was using the mythos of the house for their own interests. I also think the John Graff story might have been made up/ modified by the detective
@sandrapasquarella6742 жыл бұрын
Totally agree with you Eleaf1. I loved having so many suspects that could be the watcher, and each time the storyline changed I was totally convinced that the new guy or girl was now the watcher. I think the writers wanted the story to be convulted in order to keep you guessing. But, maybe they went to far when they included the John List murders disguised as the John Graff character. Now they need a second season to answer all the unresolved questions. I would love it if the writers stopped talking about all the horrible stuff that goes on connected to this house and actually show us the scary stuff and what the neighbors are actually capable of. Just turn the house into a massive poltergeist . I think everyone would tune in for that .

My review is long so if you don't want to read it all then simply read these 3 words: No payoff whatsoever. If you enjoy comiting your emotionnal and intellectual investment ( not to mention your time) into a show only to have the writers mock you for it at the end then "The watcher" is definitely for you. Instead of spoiling it for you I'll use an example : Say you see a trailer for an action movie starring Jackie Chan, Bruce lee and Jet-Li. Being a huge fan of kung-fu flicks you decide to watch it. The movie starts slow develloping all 3 protagonists and right off the bat you sense a fight is about to break out but for now none happen. All throughout the movie they keep crossing paths. Not a single fight occurs,provocations from each party start, tensions between those 3 Giants of martial arts intensify and the movie makes it quite clear that the 3 main characters are inching ever closer to an epic, absolutely legendary confrontation. Come the last scene of the movie : Jackie-Chan, Bruce Lee and Jet-Li meet in a huge ring. This is it, the battle no the WAR you've been waiting over an hour for. The ultimate contest of martial skill which once and for all shall decide who the best figh- Actually....the three men suddenly sit down in the middle of the ring, have someone bring in a tray containing tea and cookies. The camera slowly zooms out as it shows the 3 men enjoying a nice conversation while having a snack. The credits start, signalling the end of the movie. Look.....when I watch a psychological thriller or a detective show or any other genre relying on mystery I don't expect to always have all the answers. But no answers? None? This is what I mean when I say the writers are laughing at your investment. They put clues and red herrings in every episode to keep you guessing until you realise they're all red herrings and lazy ones at that because the writers couldn't be bothered to write an original and clever story where everything falls into place at the end. In simpler terms, the show is a collossal waste of your time. Do not watch it. Please......please do not waste your time

John Graff was based on a separate and unrelated crime that was eventually solved after the family annihilator accountant guy was found via an fbi facial mock-up shown on America’s most wanted. Bailey Sarian has an episode about that case. Tbh, I found that incredibly distracting. I get that Ryan has to pad the series to stretch it out and make it seem more chaotic than what actually happened, but that took me straight out because it felt like Ryan Murphy’s “research” was a Bailey Sarian channel binge where he picked his favorite unrelated crimes to combine into a mutated piece of fiction.

Jennifer Coolidge gets the letter from the dumbwaiter served on a cloche'd silver platter. While I sort of enjoyed The Watcher it kind of goes off the rails after the 4th episode. After that it feels like Ryan Murphy is just making it up as he goes along. This is also a case of the original story being already creepy enough so this inspired story just goes all over the fucking place. It does do a good job of fucking with us, the audience, and casting potential suspects at every turn but some of the actions of Dean and Nora didn't make sense. They found the fucking tunnel and easily could of had the contractors find out were they lead and thus find "the watcher". I would of ran to the end of every tunnel. The writing here is totally too convenient, write a plot hole and drive a big fucking car through it and then erase the loop hole. Super sloppy. You guys are fucking hilarious as usual.

Fun review… I can’t give it seven episodes of my life… it was a lady who was mad she couldn’t buy the house… it wasn’t complex. Threatened children I believe … real sicko. I don’t think there were any consequences…it’s on Wikipedia or something . Be a great house to open a B&B in now…it’s famous.

I dropped off at ep . 3, so bored. Only the realtor lady had some life in her. The husband did what he could but i didnt care for this whole family so did nothing for me.

I think it was left open bc the true case was left open. I thought the husbands wardrobe was everything. I wanted to buy everything for my husband. It was giving Amittyville Horror vibes then slowly turned into someone driving the property value down. I wouldn’t shot Jasper ass for playing in my house

Oof I couldn't last past the first episode. There was something so off about Naomi Watts' acting that every time she's on screen I was distracted. The story it's based on is pretty creepy and interesting though.

The real story was way more creepy than this series.

@@docsnake I didn't finish the series but that's probably true. Ryan Murphy tends to overdo things to the point where it's more silly or campy than scary. But honestly not even sure if the incident is enough to warrant a whole movie on it, much less a tv miniseries.

@@sickleweed3270 I was definitely disappointed when it turned campy, like I am with the American Horror Story series as well sometimes.

@@docsnake Those series are one of the most frustrating things ever: so pretty to look at, packed with A list veterans and strong cast, good music too, but the writing is so shit sometimes they're completely unwatchable. They end of feeling like a huge waste of money.

Ryan has to add some mass murder to anything. I know this is a show but are there any Netflix movies you actually like? No sarcasm, all seriousness. Netflix movies are all weird.

It seems to me you don’t like it because you can’t figure it out some of us see that as a great thing it’s not like all the other series your use to and it makes u want to see what’s next I bet you want to see it as well.

I wasted time up until the 6th episode and couldnt take it anymore. I didn’t care how it ended. They were too damn annoying especially the husband!!! I would want those people to move too lol. Yea, i did not enjoy this.

I sat through this series…but it is very annoying! Apparently it IS based on a true story because there are quite a few videos on the house which is real . However this series kind of as you say makes it seem like it’s about devaluing the house so Jennifer Coolidge’s character can buy it cheap but it’s so convoluted with all the stuff going on that it is ridiculous! I give it a C .

I don't know what i wanted the ending to be, and I'm not sure even what da h3ll it was🤷🏾♀️, but I think I wanted it be along the line of somebody or a family of crazies were trying to harass them or I rally don't know what I warned. I wanted it to be better than I can imagine but I'm not sure what that gave. It held my attention but sorry just went nowhere after all the buildup. And, there atte at least two Bey interesting true crime stories in this series that they could've built on and given a great story...anyway, I guess, 2.5 out of 5 or maybe 3 out of five for me...
