Hi Margaret, Glad you are watching and enjoying the Tip Clips. I wouldn't bother to do a continuous corner with the Wave stitch on a tablecloth. Just end the stitching at each corner and begin again on the next edge. It will give you the best finished appearance. Give yourself enough of a chain on the corners to bury under the stitching for nice secure finishing. (And a dab of Fray Check on each corner is a good idea since it will be laundered after each use (unless your friends and family are neater than mine ;-) The Evolution is a fantastic serger. I owned it and when the Ovation was launched, I upgraded to it. Don't be intimidated because the Evolution is a dream to work on. It has a beautiful stitch and I never found a decorative thread or technique that it didn't work well with. Thanks for contacting me and if you have any other questions-will be happy to hear from you! Happy Sewing and Serging!

Good Afternoon, Gail. Thank you for the speedy reply. I havn't tried the binder with the chain stitch yet but plan to do so to make a comparison. Also, I have not tried the downturn feller but will get to it soon. (Life happens in the summer.) You are correct, I may have to go back to the sewing machine for some binding tasks. However, I see so much potential in the Baby Lock binder; ideas keep germinating. I intend to keep on experimenting with various fabrics as some of the effects are exceptional. Thank you once again.

Hi Margaret, I don’t stitch continuously around corners. A better alternative is to stitch off each edge and then begin sitting the next side. Otherwise the corners won’t look good . I do the same technique when stitching rolled hem edges on napkins. Each corner is crisp and square. Happy 2018-hope it’s a creative one!

Evelyn Fabrie Hi Evelyn, glad you found my Serger Tip Clips and hope you subscribed so that you’ll be notified when I post a new one. No matter what brand or model you have, many of the techniques can be done on a 4-thread overlock machine or dedicated coverstitch machine. Please feel free to ask questions and will be glad to help you and/or troubleshoot. I love hearing from sewists all over the world.

Moderate beginner here. I see wave stitch samples that have the wave stitch on the inside edge of a binding. I can't picture where they would sew that in there without the edge flipping up. I would think stitching along the outer edge would mess with the look of the wave. Any ideas?
@GailPatriceDesign6 ай бұрын
Hi, Not sure exactly what that would look like. Can you send a pic of a sample that you've seen and I'll be happy to analyze it for you. Thanks.

you listed wooly nylon in the loopers, but didn't say what you used in the needled. Can you tell me? thanks for this and all your videos. I've had a serger for 20 some years and never used it like I should have.
@GailPatriceDesign5 жыл бұрын
Leadership Team The needle has serger cone thread in it. You have lots of company of other serger owners who use their sergers to finish edges only. And a good serger can do so much more if you know how to tweak the settings. Thanks for watching Serger Tip Clips and send questions along. Happy to help! Be sure to subscribe (it’s free) and you’ll get a notice when I post a new video.

Thank you so much for your serger tips. It makes my Evolution less intimidating. I have a question regarding the wave stitch. If I were to do this on a tablecloth, how would I turn the corners? Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi Gail, I used the wave stitch on my Ovation. I have reset it for a 4 thread safety stitch but the stitch is still ever so slightly waving. What to do? I have toggled the overlock/wave lever, twisted all the wretched dials, and rethreaded? Is there something else to try before breaking out the checkbook?
@GailPatriceDesign6 ай бұрын
Hi Phoebe, I'm wondering if a technician needs to make a slight adjustment on something. If it doesn't make a well-formed 4-thread overlock stitch, bring it in for a check-up. And it might be a quick fix, but it sounds as though you've done everything at home that I would have suggested. The Ovation has a very good stitch quality so the stitching shouldn't be wavy. Keep me posted because it's good to stay informed on why certain problems occur. Thanks and good luck!

Can you recreate the wave stitch with variegated threads on any other serger?
@GailPatriceDesign8 жыл бұрын
The wave stitch is exclusive to just several Baby Lock serger models. As far as I know, no other brand offers this beautiful stitch. Thanks for watching Serger Tip Clips!

Do you think the wave stitch would look good on a flannel baby blanket?
@GailPatriceDesign6 жыл бұрын
Hi Gail, The wave stitch will look fantastic on a flannel blanket. I suggest a soft thread like Wooly Nylon or MaxiLock Stretch or other non-scratchy thread. Baby skin is sensitive. If you have scraps of flannel, test your stitch settings for the best edge coverage. Thanks for watching Serger Tip Clips!
@carylhalfwassen85555 жыл бұрын
I found the stitch was fine with the grain of flannel but fabric stretched across the grain. Might work if fabric is stabilized.

Greetings, Gail. Your Tip Clips are so very informative, concise and educational. Am sure that even the novice sewer would have no problem understanding. You have a beautiful presentation. I finally gave up on old "White" which was a wonderful work horse of its time when I purchased it 30 some years ago. I am the new owner of an Ovation as of about three months ago and have been enjoying the challenges of a new learning curve. No problems, threading is a dream and it is user friendly. My question: Have you experimented with the binder attachments? I am rather disappointed in the results to date. :( Possibly, I am missing something? I expected to completely encase such things as place mats, etc. as one can achieve with an attachment on a sewing machine. However, only one side is encased (sewn on right side) while the under side receives a cover or decorative stitch and the bias tape needs to be trimmed. Have been trying it out on oval and round hot mats mostly as I have not perfected the square corner yet with the binder tool. I wonder if there is a way to have both sewn down? Really dislike the trimmed effect as most of my mats are reversible and I prefer a more tailored profile. Thank you for the Tip Clips. Hope you enjoy many, many years of happy sewing.

Hi Joan, Thank you for your nice comments on my Tip Clips. I really enjoy doing them! The Ovation is a fantastic serger and the available space on the machine bed makes big projects a breeze. I have experimented with the binder attachments and they work well. But as you noted, there is a cover stitch on the lower side. If this isn't the look you want, you can try it with a chain stitch (single needle). Ultimately the desired finished look of your project is your choice. Maybe going back to your sewing machine for binding placemats would be your best bet. Even though the binder is wonderful, you have to be happy. Have you tried the downturn feller? It's one of my favorites and I plan to do a future Tip Clip on it. Please send along any other questions or comments. Will be happy to hear from you. Be sure to tell your sewing friends to subscribe for Tip Clip notifications-thanks!

Thank you Gail. I am trying to serge the wave stitch on my ovation that looks good on both sides (a reversible placemat). Currently there is no "wave " on the bottom side and looks a little sloppy as well. Am I missing something or is this stitch made to be viewed from one side only?
@GailPatriceDesign7 жыл бұрын
Hi Teresa, You won't see the "wave" distinctly on the underside of your fabric. You will see a "suggestion" of a wave so whichever side you want to be face up most frequently, should be stitched face up. Also, you have to experiment with different threads and stitch lengths. These makes a big difference in the appearance. I suggest trying different thread types that give similar coverage. Let me know if you need more help. Thanks for watching Serger Tip Clips! PS: I'm doing a quick Facebook Live at noon (EDT) about beading my Serger Bracelet. You can see a few samples on my Pinterest Board "Serge Outside the Seams."

Thanks Gail. I'll try some thicker threads. I think what bothers me is the overlock thread on the "underside"is a little bit loose in places. The top side looks great.
@GailPatriceDesign7 жыл бұрын
It might be because you're using different threads for the contrast. Double-check that the presser foot is lowered and the threads are feeding properly. Keep me posted!

A Mendez The Triumph has so many amazing features that make it worth every penny. Just the lighting system makes it an incredible machine. However, if it’s not within financial reach, you might want to look into a previously owned Ovation.it has many of the features and is affordable. The wave stitch is a beautiful edge finish and check out my flatlock wave Tip Clip-spectacular! Thanks for watching Serger Tip Clips!
