George is basically a Boy George fan boy. Notice the only song he sings is a Culture Club song whose lead singer is Boy George. That's the running joke. That's why George is weird. It has nothing to with George's sexual orientation

It makes me feel old how everyone who reacts to this movie lately didn't know Adam Sandler can sing! His early career, the SNL and standup years, he was always playing songs. It was the first thing people thought of when you mentioned his name. The Channukah Song, Ode to my Car, The Thanksgiving Song... like a third to a half of the tracks on most of his comedy albums were songs.

This is one of the only Adam Sandler movies I like....he's dorky and sweet but not completely annoying. It's also part of my nostalgia 90s Drew Barrymore trifecta that I was obsessed with in middle/high school (also including Ever After and Never Been Kissed - which is a horribly problematic movie upon rewatch, but whatever, haha). The soundtrack of this movie is also SO much fun. It's also - very weird fact - what introduced me to the song 'How Soon Is Now' and then it took me YEARS to find it just from trying to hunt down that guitar sound lol.

This and 50 First Dates are two of my favorite feel good movies. Thanks for reacting guys 😁🖤 Side note: while Adam has written some great songs, the most recent being his sweet, heartbreaking tribute to Chris Farley, Love Stinks isn’t one of them. It’s by the J. Geils Band. Also, the actress that plays Drew’s friend is Christine Taylor, who is mostly known for playing Marcia Brady is the 90s Brady Bunch movies, as well as co-starring in Dodgeball and Zoolander with her husband, Ben Stiller. And George is played by the late Alexis Arquette, sibling to David, Patricia, and Rosanna. The character is a nod to 80s icon, Boy George.

As you said, one of the keys to the this movies quality is that they didn't go heavy into 1980s stereotypes. There were just settled cues to remind you of when it takes place like his friend's Michael Jackson jacket, the Boy George fan in the band, some of the ladies fashions. It's all things that are real to the period.

At 36. 08, when you say " I heard that self-awareness didn't come out until the 2010's, are you being sarcastic, or is that real opinion? I just can't tell anymore with you... Youngsters. If it's not sarcastic, my response is - "that's cute."

The song "Love Stinks" is by The J. Geils Band. It's one of my favorite albums, they hit the big time with their next album "Freeze Frame" and the song "Centerfold".

There are a couple other Friends connections in this movie as well. Christine Taylor, who played Holly, played Bonnie, Ross’ brief girlfriend at the end of Season 3. And Linda was played by Angela Featherstone who played Chloe, the copy girl Ross hooks up with that lead to his breakup with Rachel.

Adam Sandler was known for his singing on SNL. It’s why they decided to make this film. Because he could sing. He even has musical comedy albums that were quite popular.

Love Stinks will never be the same for me. And it’s a song by the great J. Geils Band circa 1980ish.

This movie is what made Drew Barrymore my Hollywood crush when I was in high school. In 1998, she dethroned Sandra Bullock as that crush and has been there ever since. All of her roles in the mid 90s - mid 2000s had this kind of charm to them. Even later roles like Fever Pitch or Blended... i love her to death!

Only You by the Platters. Strange choice since we were young punk 90s kids. Everyone talked shit about our song choice and us getting married so young. That was 24 years ago now and we are still happily married.

I kept waiting for you to figure out that Holly was played by Christine Taylor. She's Ben Stiller's wife. She first had fame from the Brady Bunch movies in the 90s but was also great on Dodgeball.

Such a fantastic movie, loved the reaction! One of the top movies for my wife and I, lost count with how many times we've watched it together. :P And yes, I tear up every time the plane song comes on. Hard not thinking about my own marriage and wanting to grow old with my wife.
