I woke up one morning, and tuned in Don Imus's MSNBC show on the TV. He had Levon on, and after the set wrapped up, Don said, "If you don't do nothing else in your life, go get a ticket to Levon's Midnight Ramble, which is a concert and Jam Session held every Saturday night at Levon's Home and studio in Woodstock, NY. You'll always be glad you did." So I went right out, bought two tickets, and drove up there from Maryland to celebrate my wedding anniversary with my wife. It was one of the highlights of my musical life. Got to talk to Levon, shake his hand and thank him for all the joy he'd brought to my life. He was just the nicest man you can imagine. And Imus was right, I am still glad I did. ;-)

For me, Levon Helm is one of the all-time great musicians. Besides his phenomenal drum skills combined with his soulfull Southern voice, he brought music that touched the heart directly. So pure, enlightening, fragile and powerful at the same time. Levon Helm brought real life to the stage with his music in a humble way and full of gentleness. The joy for the music and letting the other band members excel. All that was Levon at his very best. Thank you Levon of what you gave me and the world. You are a jewel that I will cherish forever.
