Swery, Suda and Kimura are the holy trinity of established Japanese devs. Their output, while varying in quality, never fails to make me smile. Can't say there are many studios out there that can even elicit an emotional reaction from me at all, let alone a positive one. Love these guys and their teams.

I consider everyone tangentially related to SMRPG, Moon RPG, and Chibi-Robo in the same "family" of game devs which seem to share a certain style, mindset, themes and ideas in their games. Most of Skip ltd., Akira Ueda, Kenichi Nishi... games like those and "Contact" on DS, you've got your meta story, life-simulator elements, parody of genre, quirky twist on the game's reality, cynical humor, clashing art styles and multiple realities interacting. I wish they would all consolidate into one company and see the success and recognition they deserve.

Wow, I “finished” dandy dungeon a few months ago after it was recommended on the iOS shop but was too blithely ignorant to notice any of the staff names because I’m human garbage. I don’t think I would ever have pictured a timeline where it ended up here, so good pick. The characters really make it, like the tough guy fiancée, the shadow living under your bed, the series of hungry homeless people, your weedy childhood friend that seems worried by your failure to work, the feudal memorabilia weeb and the dominatrix office worker. Even the micro transactions have that same earnest, self-deprecating humour which at least has you laughing when you’re being pestered by them. It’s interesting to see big names heading to the indie space in country that has such a long held and deeply entrenched culture of corporate loyalty above all else. Top stuff as ever.

I downloaded the Dandy Dungeons just in time and never deleting it off my phone. I had no idea about the staff of Onion Games, almost all of them have worked on same games. Bless Inafune for all indie Japanese games except for his own. Heman Chauhan Inafune set the precedent with his absurdly successful Kickstarter campaign, showing that Japanese game devs can go independent. I mean, he face-planted instead of landing, but he was still a confidence-booster for other devs looking to break away from constant executive oversight.

in a strange way this reminds me of sagagaga on dreamcast when it comes to weirdness mixed with a game begin about a game developer. look really great i will definitely give dandy dungeon a go even though im not huge on mobile RPG's this has an interesting mix that could be fun to play when i wait.
