More like fifty shades of red flags... l know this is supposed to be an erotic love story between Christian and Ana but I seriously thought it was a horror movie for a sec.

i think Anna could've not been a virgin and the story would still made sense and be a thousand percent less creepy and harmful. her character could be a shy, vainilla girl who meets an experienced man and enters the world of BDSM without it being predatory; she would at least know the limits of what she likes and at that point learned how to set boundaries. the "bad boy who is no good for you" fantasy would still be there for those who enjoy it, but it would take the creepy aspect of the storyline away

@@IdkIdk-hm6vf yep I was super sheltered when I was in high school. I didn't have my first kiss until I was 17 in college. So I kinda related to Anna tbh. The troubling thing for me is that a middle aged woman is writing about a toxic relationship and selling it as wish fulfillment romance.
@handsoaphandsoap

I never understood why Anastasia had to be a virgin, it adds nothing and in fact makes the story actively worse. Like, it’s a fanfic trope that makes sense, most readers of fanfiction are teenage girls so they will likely relate to a character who is still a virgin, but it doesn’t add anything to this story as it’s written by an adult woman for other adult women. The story would be a lot stronger if Anastasia had been sexually active prior to meeting Christian, she could’ve been unsatisfied with her sexual life and then runs into this guy with a fetish she hasn’t experienced yet, and she’s intrigued to see if it’s something she’s into. And then maybe she could really be into it which would make sense as to why she sticks around with Christian, he’d still be a garbage person but his dicking is like REALLY good or something and since it’s Anastasia’s first sexual encounter of this nature she might have that perception that Christian is “the one” because of their sexual compatibility. Idk, just some thoughts, I still think they shouldn’t be together in this scenario since there’s no reason why she should settle in a relationship she feels romantically unfulfilled by, but it’d make for a better story at least. Also let’s remove the Christian backstory in this hypothetical iteration, him being abused as a child just makes his character extremely messy instead of him just being a kinky guy with commitment issues.

Omggg haha this little gem. I never read but tried to watch the first movie. I could not get through 40 minutes. They were the most undesirable relationship I’ve ever seen. The only thing keeping this guy off of “Criminal Minds” is his billions of dollars. Otherwise anyone would think he’s a psychotic stalker. It’s actually quite concerning that all these fantasy romance books all have such abusive relationships, like what are we teaching young girls? It was not fun or entertaining even it was the most boring movie even the sex scenes were not intense or desirable they were so robotic and awkward. What was this even for?

I must say that this movie did make me believe that bdsm is a mindless kink.......until I read another romance novel (which I did not know going in that it has bdsm) gave me a clear view of what exactly bdsm is. Granted that the book I read has it in a very toned down and mild way (nothing too aggressive), but now I acknowledge that it is actually so much more controlled and based on consent and care(unlike here where he gives 0 fucks about her care).
@orangestories5025
@orangestories5025 2 жыл бұрын
I agree with everything you said! An issue I have with the portrayal of BDSM in this movie is that I believe a healthier way of communicating consent is saying yes to the activities you are willing to do instead of communicating your red lines. Another one is that BDSM is not just the sex or the control, it is also the mutual understanding, the aftercare, the agreement, the coming down from as well as building up a scene. I believe this movie portrays two people with unhealthy understanding of what BDSM is. It is true that control outside of sex can be part of the BDSM agreement, but it must be done only when all parties have a clear understanding of what that means and be on the same page about it.

I remember growing up thinking it’s “romantic” when a guy is intense and controlling and stalking you despite you setting boundaries, because that was soooo common in these romance movies.. it’s so weird though, as an adult I would literally run for the hills 🤣 I’ve read the books and watched the movies and I must agree that romance is definitely not that… Christian was very weird and Anna was wayyy too naive. Never watched the full movie. From what I have seen, the characters have no chemistry and the movie is creepy&cringy. So many disturbing sexual and romantic issues. I don't even understand how can some silly people romanticize " bondage and discipline, dominance and submission, sadism and masochism", especially at this age, where there's still a lot of awareness and awakening efforts to be made about feminism, equality between women and men, mental health, the impact of the pornography industry and other disgusting male-dominated representations of women/men on gender equality and sexual and gender-based violence. The mere vision of Anastasia (a virgin!) about to be hit and hurt by a guy and act "as a sex slave" is just utterly repulsive, especially if you think about the other "real" female sex slaves in the world. People into sadism, masochism, submission etc. need to take their mental troubles to the shrink instead of pushing them onto the screen for millions of people to see, including teenagers who don't understand what a healthy relationship looks like, who have been exposed and influenced by pornography and who don't even understand the ramifications, implications, and consequences of such sexual violence and deviance.
@luminous3115
@luminous3115 2 жыл бұрын
I’m sorry, but being into BDSM isn’t a mental problem; and the way it’s shown in this movie is completely inaccurate. BDSM is supposed to be about trust and consent between two knowledgeable adults; which is this movie’s first failure, as Ana doesn’t know the first thing about it. The scene stops when one party wants it stop, no if’s ands or buts. BDSM, between mentally stable adults (which Chris and Ana definitely aren’t), is just something that happens in the bedroom to make sure both parties get the most pleasure out of it. Outside the bedroom, there is no Dom or Sub dynamics; just two people in love, going about their life together. You could walk pass a couple, clearly smitten with eachother and happy together, and they could be involved in BDSM. Being involved in BDSM doesn’t mean they’re unwell, or that they actually hate eachother. It’s just that they have different sexual needs that their partner is willing to help them with in the safety and privacy of their bedroom. They aren’t wrong for liking something different, and especially not if their partner(s) are into it too. So long as proper aftercare is performed as needed, proper research is done, and both parties actually communicate their needs and wants with eachother, everything should be fine. And also, women can be Doms too. There’s plenty of Subs who are men, as well.
