Honestly the baseball olympic tournament should be like the men's soccer tournament where its a U23 or U21 tournament. Would at least allow the US team to have access to some really good college players and field a competitive squad and not rely on washed up independent league guys. It would also allow top prospects from other countries to get some good exposure and hopefully field a fairly evenly matched tournament
@TheMrPeteChannel5 ай бұрын
That's a good idea.
@akapilkaАй бұрын
That's the ideal outcome. It's even more beneficial for baseball that way. Save the best guys for the WBC where they don't disrupt the regular seasons of other leagues, but keep the Olympics as the U-24 World Cup.
@eduardoortiz65526 ай бұрын
The WBC is the Real World Cup for the baseball fans! Maybe the US doesn't appreciate the WBC as fans from Japan, Puerto Rico, Korea, the Dominican Republic, Taiwan, etc. But the WBC is the main event for baseball! Similar to FIFA, the World Cup diminished the value of Olympic football. FIFA sponsored Olympic football twice, in 1920 and 1924, when Uruguay won both competitions.

From what I heard, the reason the United States don't use American professional players from Major League Baseball because the team owners didn't want their star players to get hurt and ruining their chances for the postseason play and the Olympics are featured near the end of the season and they don't want to put the season on a two-week hiatus, like the NHL does so the players can play for their home country.

Not true. In most countries, people prefer to watch Olympics than WBC. Honestly, I don’t think people in EU know there is a tournament named WBC, but if there is a baseball tournament in Olympics, they would like to watch it.
@rundown3984Ай бұрын
@起飛-n1k interesting, I'd figure since WBC had the name 'World' literally imprinted in it, it would be noticed. My argument was also that no superstars from DR, USA, and PR play in the Olympics
@起飛-n1kАй бұрын
@@rundown3984 I think it is the MLB’s fault. It should let the stars attend the Olympics, just the NHL did in Winter Olympics. WBC is good actually, but baseball needs Olympics, it can attract more people who do not watch baseball matches before.
@起飛-n1kАй бұрын
@@rundown3984 WBC is noticed by the countries who like playing baseball, such as Japan USA Korea and etc. But people in other countries do not watch WBC,they even do not know the tournament. Just like the FIBA world cup, little people watch it, but in Olympics, many people watch it even their country does not qualify.
@rundown3984Ай бұрын
@起飛-n1k WBC has grown alot over the last few years new teams compete every year. I'm not sure if they started to form their own separate league to market themselves better, because ik the European version of it, namely called cricket is probably better advertised

Make Baseball a winter Olympics event. Allow professionals to play and alternate the events with the WBC. To line things up, WBC in 2026 and 28, Olympics in 2030, WBC 2032, etc. It lines up with spring training schedules. The Caribbean Series plays in Feb with professionals, the WBC plays in early March with professionals. The Winter Olympics can have baseball with professionals in Feb. And venues shouldn't be an issue since not all Olympic events take place in the host city (or country sometimes like surfing in Tahiti this year)

I like baseball. I like the Olympics but the two don't mix. I love tennis, even played pro for a while, but I don't think tennis belongs in the Olympics. They need to pare it down just to sports where the Olympic gold medal is the ultimate prize. I actually was bored with the "Dream Team" in 1992. I'd rather they lost with college guys than beat everybody with wealthy superstars, too spoiled for the Olympic Village. Let's get the focus back to Track & Field and other "Olympic" sports.
