My wife found this exact tent at Goodwill for $10. It was brand new…. Someone had even packed a decent inflatable pillow at the top of the package, which I use on my trips. 😊 I set it up in the yard and thought it would work ok on my next backpack. Well, after setting it up with my sleeping pad and bag, it looked comfortable. However, it was difficult to get in, turn around and get situated. I’m 5’11” so it was a tight fit. Coffin-like!! I’ve kept the bivy but don’t plan on using it again. It would be useful to carry on a day trip as an emergency shelter. I don’t recommend it….. 😎🥾🥾

I keep hearing you mention Ozark trail and how bad they are. I have a 2 person backpacking tent from Ozark that I have been using for a couple of years and haven't had any problems. Granted it is too heavy to actually backpack with. I use it for kayak camping. Rain and snow with no leaking or damage thus far.
If it isn't a high dollar brand, it's junk. Back in the day, he actually liked cheaper products. Then his channel got big and he started getting paid and now everything is junk. I have an Ozark trail that I've used since 2013, and my daughter has used hers since 2017, and they're both great!
@neolithicnobody81849 ай бұрын
I have one of Ozark's big tents and it's been absolutely great since 2016. It's been through numerous thunderstorms(not the sprinkles he calls storms) and has survived 2 tornadoes. After the 4th heavy storm, I decided to waterproof it as a precaution. It never leaked and I wanted to make sure that it stayed that way. From March to November every year since I've had it, twice per month, 3 days at a time. Just like clockwork, every other weekend. I can't complain about my Ozark. Better than any Coleman, that's for sure!!

I had one of these tents around 7 years ago and used it for approximately 3 years. I believe it was called the Roam 1 at the time. It was slightly different than this one, mine was much lower in height but had a good “garage” space. I was very impressed with how durable and waterproof it was, it was used in Oregon and Alaska and never had any issues with it. I did seam seal it and upgraded the DWR coating myself. My only complaint was I couldn’t sit up in it, it was more of a bivy style at that time.

It looks a lot like my Eureka one man bivy. Bushnell has very recently been acquired by some financial holding company. True to form they have laid off a majority of the development and production employees. As you said. Bushnell has been largely an optics company. It looks like the holding company bought the company to capitalize on the name alone with cheap Chinese gear. Bushnell from here on will not be the previous independent Bushnell.

Remington had a licensed series of camping products over 20 years ago, and was a surprise for me. They weren't high end stuff, but they had a kinda nice external frame pack, with a fold down pack shelf, and "long item" slots between the 4 side pockets with a little rectangle pocket and grommet at the bottom. They were only out a season, and I don't remember what else they had aside from a couple tents and sleeping bags that looked like the "in house label" brands.

I purchased the tent two years ago on Amazon for $50. I wanted it for Moto Camping, because it’s so small to carry. One night near some grape vineyards. The condensation was so high at night, I was soaked by the time I woke up. Hoping it might be a good mosquito net for sleeping under the stars, but will need to use it in a dry forecasted situation.

Luke, thanks for your completely honest reviews. Any time I am thinking of buying gear I make sure you have a review on it. Was wondering if you would be interested in reviewing the Durston X-Mid 2 person? Thanks for what you do.

Just a quick comment on the Pocket on the outside of the tent for a flashlight, the only thing I can think of is that you didn’t wanna lose your flashlight in that small tent, so if you had to get up to go to the bathroom, you would know where it was atnot was standing that you would know where it was at if it’s on the inside of the tent and not exposed to the weather. I guess it’s just one of those little eye catchy things.
@davidskinner5709 ай бұрын
I think you have it backwards, another company is not leasing bushnells branding but bushnell is leasing these tent designs to sell as their own. Bushnell would never let someone lease rights to their branding to sell products that they have no say in.

Not that I don't trust these companies when it comes to their waterproofing rating but I don't trust these companies to get it right. Any new piece of kit I get always gets a Scotchgaurd treatment with special attention to the seams. 1 time waking up in a bathtub floor that was acting like a bathtub of water was 1 time too many for me. Better safe than sorry from then on. Most of my stuff was dry by nightfall that evening and my emergency poncho saved the rest of the trip. I learned a valuable lesson the hard way.
@keithdorset38249 ай бұрын
I was just thinking about that. You are not wrong to pre treat a tent. It's like tightening screws, cleaning and lubing a new gun. Factory DWR, durable water repellent, and seam sealing does not last forever anyway. It usually has to be reapplied every season or so. Sun and frequent use wears it out. What I'd like to know is if an inexpensive tent is built well enough that, while not perfect, I could spend $15 and 30 minutes to treat it initially and most likely be water proof.

@kogarashi19949 ай бұрын
As far as the flashlight holder goes, the only thing I can think of is if you have to leave the tent during the night there's a flashlight right there. There's a problem, if you were to leave the tent and need a flashlight, you would be far better served having it on your person especially if you want to see if there's a wild animal around your tent.
