So the industry (Warner Bros I think) decided to prove a point and the song was not given the radio play time it deserved. Should have been a chart topper both sides of the pond. Only hit top 10 for one week in Uk and not in the US. shame.

The Who is one of those bands where you can tell exactly what decade it is just by how they are styled and dressed. Some bands are stuck in the same decade they broke through for their entire career, but the Who distinctly dressed and looked like they fit right into the style of every decade they performed together.

It was a great year. Depending on what side of June 19 it was, I was 16 or 17. I saw this on Solid Gold(anyone remember that show?). Actually the first song by The Who that I heard. Fortunately I had friends who introduced me to their music, and I liked it. But this one is definitely a favorite.🌞😁

As a 14-year-old Who fan in 1987, I remember watching this video and thinking they looked sooooo much older than they did in their promo videos from the 1965-1968 era. It's now 2021. I'm 47 now and, to me, they look soooo young in 1981. LOL, the mathematics of years and age never seems to add up!

I was in 7th grade back in 1981 when this record and video appeared on MTV. We couldn’t get enough of it! Strangely though and at that young age I’d pick out all the bass licks John does here - and on countless other songs of the era. My point being, I set out to find em on a bass guitar myself in the ensuing years!

The addition of the orchestra seemed to make the music come alive in an even more powerful manner. I fully admit to tearing up during some songs as the renditions were so freakin' beautiful. I saw it in Toronto and I think they had difficulty selling tickets due to the Raptors going all the way and the concert being rescheduled until October of 2019. Got our tickets for only $59 each!!!

I bought the vinyl single back in 1981. It is still in good shape.... What a song! On a Who best of the long version rocks too!!! I was 13 years old back then.

Forgot how great of a drummer Kenny is to me his drumming with The Who is really good with The Faces he was perfect all around a great and very underrated drummer

I also think on this song, the drums were mic'd up differently. I'm not that much of an audio engineer, but maybe they were compressed and perhaps the drums themselves were tuned differently? The drums sound thin and weak, compared to Keith. And I don't think it was Kenney's fault. I think it was the 80s. So many 80s songs had NO DRUMS at all (drum machine) and when they DID have drums, they were tuned differently, weak, thin and flat. Just my two cents...

that progression comes out of nowhere on your first listen and will make you repeat this song about a thousand times before you've enough of it, until you revisit it for a thousand more later down the road
