The Who invented a new way of playing rock & roll. Both Moon & Entwistle broke the rules when it came to playing their instruments. They both played incredibly busy (Moon's playing was one long continuous drum fill & Entwistle played bass like he was playing lead guitar). On paper, it shouldn't have worked (and in any other band it wouldn't have) but somehow it did. Add to that Pete's power chords & you've got the often imitated, never duplicated, one and only sound of The Who...

They break the rules when playing their instruments. They break the rules when they break their instruments and they rule their instruments when they play without brakes.

One of the most original bands of all time. They covered some songs extremely well (Roadrunner, Shakin' All Over, Summertime Blues, Eyesight to the Blind) but they have never been accused of stealing music. In a league all their own. Phenomenal.

It does, in bootleg form. The video is pretty common on the bootleg circuit and well worth looking for. Right after the blues version of "My Generation", they go right into "Won't Get Fooled Again"

this is why the WHO is the greatest band of all time. you want 3 minute top 40 hits, Pete will write them for you. you want love songs, Roger will sing them for you, you want your mind blown with heavy metal, here you go. THEY DID IT ALL!! Led Zeppelin is the only band that comes close. Watch interviews with Eddie Vedder, Dave Grohl, Bono, Sting, David Bowie, Billy Idol, the Edge . . . the WHO set the bar.

That move that Pete does with his leg, huh? Two thumbs up for your comment? It's Pete's version of Chuck Berry's "Duck Walk". Road Runner is a song by some guy who went by the name of Bo Diddley. The intro to Mr. Brownstone might have everything to do with him. You're really into the rock n' roll aren't you? Twenty-three fucking years old and you don't have a clue! Don't you ever think of yourself as rock n' roll or a rock n' roll fan.

@999manman pete is and was very inconsistent w/his lead playing..he sort tried to play by the seat of his pants...sometimes it worked other times it was horrendous...i never understood y he never worked on his lead playing..he's been friends w/jimmy page, eric clapton, joe walsh and dave gilmour. They could have taught him a thing or two...lol

Thank you for the lecture. You're right, that was a pathetic oversight on my part. I am ashamed to consider myself a rock and roll fan and will from this day forward never call myself that again. Let me rephrase what I said. That move Pete does with his leg toward the beginning... ("Duck Walk" Trademark Bo Diddley) I'm gonna practice that every day for the rest of my life. Probably never get it. Tell me, professor, is the final exam open-internet? I simply don't think I could pass otherwise!

Pete, though not a proficient lead guitarist, is one of the best rhythm guitar players in history. Nobody has ever been able o windmill like Pete and actually hit the guitar strings. Try it sometime. Your inclination will be to not hit the strings for fear of slicing off your fingers....
@YukioGL14 жыл бұрын
@EarlShoes1 seriously, I do believe their most well-known songs from around that period are actually flippin' lousy, and if you stay away from their LEGEND status you'll find out they actually have recorded music that ain't just good enough to consider them the greatest rock band in the world's history as most people will call them with no other proof than the success of those bloody red and blue albums
@nkmcfrln12 жыл бұрын
"("Duck Walk" Trademark Bo Diddley)" . Yeah, you need to be a professor of Rock N' Roll to be familiar with Chuck Berry and his Duck Walk. It's the first image that should pop into your head when somebody says Rock N' Roll. I wasn't aware that Bo Diddley held the rights and the trademark for Chuck's Duck Walk.
@alsaxe113 жыл бұрын
@999manman having said that..i don't mean to be critical of him. He is my main influence on guitar....his playing on live at leeds is great. It seems as if he really tried to play well there....i read that he wanted to do a lot of single note playing to show hendrix what he could do..
@steviea42713 жыл бұрын
Right before this video kicks in, the band is playing an awesome, epic version of "Join Together." It is on the album but not in the movie. Has anyone ever seen that piece of film? Does it even exist?
@YukioGL14 жыл бұрын
@EarlShoes1 everyone's heard more than a thousand times without further examination on what their real contribution to rock music is... I mean, after all those are their hits, not the best or the most representative of their work. Nothing personal against the Beatles by the way. And yes, I love the Who, which won't stop me from saying they actually screwed up a few times by releasing music that didn't showcased their best.
