You picked the ace of spades!! This band is royalty in the rock world. Each musician was the best of the best and they started together as teens. Pete's guitar windmill guitar strokes and stage antics, Daltry's mic swing and that SCREAM, Entwistle's full neck bass lines, and of course, Keith Moon's supernatural drums... There is nothing that kick started power aggressive rock music more that this band and this song! Kudos!

That's what The Who were, anarchy and genius all combined. John Entwhistles' bass guitar has never been rivalled and Keith Moons' ('The Loon') drumming was and still is legendary, Pete Townsend's stage presence was always an act all it's own and Roger Daltreys' vocals outstanding. What a rock band they were. Absolute heroes to a generation of young guys and girls, and an awesome live act.

@@threesxtnofficial Look for "A Quick On While He's Away", filmed for the Rolling Stones' "Rock and Roll Circus" in '68 (about 10 years before this particular concert). That was Moon at the height of his powers, tossing parts of his drum kit off the stage during the performance. You can't not watch him. As for the energy on stage - well, Pete was coked out of his gourd during this period; the fact that he's still alive at this point is a bit of a miracle. And Alice Cooper had this to say about Keith Moon: "When it comes to rock stars and drugs, about 40% of what you hear is true. With Keith Moon, everything you hear is true, and you haven't heard all of it." There's a story that he took _horse tranquilizers_ before one show, passed out early in the set, and a fan had to come up and play drums for the remainder of it. He died shortly after this performance (a matter of weeks or months, I think). Oh, the gong - there are some tracks from Tommy and Quadrophenia that made use of it.

The Bad Boys of Rock and Roll. The Who are the originators of almost every classic rock “moves” and no band does it better. Peter Townsend (alone) with his windmills and destruction of instruments has inspired 1,000s of guitar players to reinvent his antics. The Who were also on the cutting edge of using lasers during their shows. Check out their split screen moments in the film “Woodstock”... you’ll enjoy them.

Yes, I know I was there. I was a t Leeds University 1969-1973. The number and quality of the bands that played there was outstanding. I was John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, Led Zeppelin and the Rolling Stones within a SINGLE WEEK. Pink Floyd, Moody Blues, Leonard Cohen, Free, Rod Stuart, Yes, the Nice and ELP, Deep Purple and folky bands like Steeleye Span, Fairport Convention and Roy Harper. Oh and Paul McCartney and Wings turned up unannounced midweek and asked if they could do their first ever gig there that afternoon. Fortunately I saw the blackboard outside the Students Union advertising the event with half hour to spare. So just 150 students got to see Paul McCartney live for the princely sum of 50p!

The energy of the music runs counterpoint to the reality of the lyrics. The singers are the revolutionaries fighting in the streets who were obviously "fooled once again." Townsend has said it is a cautionary tale about the rise and fall of societies.

The Who were maybe the craziest on stage Band you could see in concert. Drummer Keith Moon passed out on stage, and they had to call for someone in the crowd to play drums. Roger Daltry and Pete Townsend were constantly competing for the crowds attention, as did moon. Ego maniacs is putting it lightly. But not in a bad way. They wanted to put on a great show, and give us kids and young adults, our money's worth, and they did. They were a great Band along with Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix etc. The Who are a legendary Rock Band.

I think this is my favourite version of this song, even better than the original studio version on Who's Next. It has SO much energy, other versions seem a little tame in comparison. Having said that, others havr pointed out that this is not peak Moon, and I understand that for the record version of this performsnce issued on The Kids Are Alright album the drums were in fact re-recorded in the studio. Van Halen do a brilliant live in the studio cover of this which you can find on youtube. Eddie Van Halen plays the keyboard parts on the guitar. It is quite something.

If every there was a bad to see it was The Who prior to the death of Keith Moon. The first time I saw them was in ‘82 at Shea Stadium. I was amazed at what I was seeing, given that Townsend wasn’t very enthused then. I’ve seen them live at least a few dozen times since then traveling to England as well. Their performance at the Concert for NY was probably one of their greatest performances in the bands history. Certainly their best post Moon. Entwistle, in my opinion, is by far the greatest bass player ever. Moon was, again in my opinion, the greatest drummer ever. Townsend was an awesome guitarist but not the greatest. Same for Daltrey. But together they were the greatest band ever. Their chemistry in still unmatched to this day. It was Townsends band. He knew exactly what was needed(personnel) for his music to resonate loudly. The closest thing out there today are the Foo Fighters and they’re not even close to the energy The Who put out.

Regarding the laser lights at the end, in the studio next to where The Who recorded this version of Won't Get Fooled Again, the movie "Alien" was being filmed. If you've ever seen Alien you will probably recognize those same lasers in the movie as The Who used at the end of WGFA.

Basically a Music video disguised as a concert. The who were as good visually as the are in your speakers. They played loader than anyone. Bass at 11. Tinfoil in the drums. Daltrey wailing. Townshends' thunderous guitar windmills

Thing about this performance is that this is the SECOND time they'd done the song that night. They were filming for "The Kids Are Alright" and the director had run out of film during their first time through it. He had to bargain, beg and plead with the band to get them to come out again but, they did - and the rest is rock and roll. :)

If you want to see the Who upstage everyone from the Stones to John Lennon to Eric Clapton, check out their run through "A Quick One While He's Away" from the Stones' "Rock and Roll Circus". The Stones paid to film the special in 1968 but, after seeing the Who's performance, buried the footage in the vaults until several years ago.

I honestly don't know if your post here is real as I distrust most reaction videos as phony...........but, but ,but when I first saw The Who in 1968 at The Fillmore West, my musical life was forever changed. There was and will never be another WHO! For me it was all about rebellion. Pete said it all for me by how he played and through the songs he wrote. I hated high school, I hated the establishment, I hated the SF music scene and hippie music. The Who were my way of flipping them all off!

Regarding their energy and performance. Keep in mind that you’re not looking at fresh faced kids here. They were a long way into their career here and middle age was probably looming. I’m guessing they came out around 65? One of your older followers can confirm but they are probably well over 30 here. Really impressive energy considering the lifestyle of these bands back then
