One of the things I enjoy most about this channel. You both sound like you're having so much fun, in spite of crashing a plane. I'm a new pilot, have crashed my Carbon Cub S2 3 or 4 times, once into a goal post. It's glued back together, not sure whether it's even flight worthy anymore. But, when a part I'm waiting on comes in, I'll be back in the air again. Seeing you both have so much fun with this inspires me to try and try again. Thanks!

Actually, Foam Tac really might fix that right up. That has become my "go to" adhesive (the little tube packs). You may need a couple new parts. May I suggest a video on repairing it, what you did actually have to replace and then a post-repair maiden flight? That would be really good to show folks.

The absolute best thing to fix foam planes is NOT hot glue, it's Gorilla white glue with a LIGHT spritz of water on the parts first. Trust me, guys, I have fixed my Timber X like this, totally split the wing, and it works. Tape the pieces together, takes about 4 - 5 minutes to harden a bit, 24 hours to cure. Cut off the foam like excess.

Nate - my brother in the Lord - keep the faith - these things keep us humble and cause us to reflect on truly how blessed we are. I am a Novice pilot and had my motor rip out of my TT Evo 1.5m in flight - and then a week later completely ( well 75% ) destroyed my 700 size RC helicopter ( 10 years experience as a heli pilot ) .. so I feel how you feel. My Turbo Timber is back in the air ( ordered a new fuselage and motor mount ) back together and test maiden was a success. Remember ( I know you know ) 3 mistakes high for maneuvers we are not yet 100% comfortable with.. cheers - blessings to you and your family ! Love your channel as you keep it honest and have fun.

I did the exact same thing with my Commander. Breaks your heart in the moment. The tube is from the mocked exhaust port. Make sure you have 4 weights still in the front bottom of the nose. They are 30g each. Mine went back together pretty well, but I neglected to align the tail properly with the wings, so I have a pretty good yaw one direction.

I feel your pain, Nat. For me, I was 12, and it was a Siig Kadet Seniorita that took me a month to build (balsa), I had some experienced pilots test it for me before I maidened it. I got it in the air and flew. Landing was bad. I was about 10 feet above the runway, and I paniced. I punched the throttle and pushed the elevator up (up is down and down is up. It was hard to remember that being 12 yrs old) and it nosed almost 90 degrees right into the runway. There was balsa and monokote everwhere in a 30 foot diameter. The only thing that survived was the receiver and the engine. I never flew again....until last year. Now, you can't stop me!!!! Thanks for sharing this.

If you fly RC anything, it's not if, but when you will crash hard. I've completely destroyed a few planes in my time. And most of those were balsa builds back in the day before RTF and ARTF planes were a thing. Spending weeks building a plane, then destroying it is SO MUCH worse than crashing a modern foam plane. You can probably buy a new fuse and have that back up and running in no time.
@TheRcSaylors

I can’t imagine the feeling of crashing a balsa plane that I spent so much time building. I sort of look at our KZbin channel as my balsa plane, if that makes sense. Where I would normally spend time building a plane, I’m editing and things in that time. But yeah crashes definitely still happen when we push our limits, but that is how we grow 😁 I actually had this plane repaired the same evening I crashed it, with about an hour and a half of my time. Video uploaded on our channel of it flying again after the crash! Check it out! 👍😎⚓️

So sorry see your favorite plane get busted up so badly. That was such an awesome looking plane! I find it a prophetic, that as you were about to begin taxying for take off, Abby says, "I think you are going to regret having me tell you what moves to do". I may be mistaken, but I don't think she said, "Do a lawnmower". And seriously, that is the most beautiful lawn dart I've ever seen! A friend used to tell me, when I would do something stupid, "I'm not laughing at you. I'm laughing at you expense." But really the best message was, "It's just foam". Nobody got hurt. Nothing was damaged, except Abby's new stunt plane. Love your channel! Keep it up! Peace out!

Everything’s great….. till it isn’t ! That’s RC. Most important is that you remain supportive of each other and keep on flying with your characteristic warmth and positive attitude. Reminds me of flying my Concendo at full throttle, practicing inverted flight, straight through a pine tree! There were more separate parts than when it first came out of the box. Carful work and some extra carbon fiber rods to join and reinforce the broken foam made the whole thing more ridged than when new. PS- Abbys’s a gem and should have her own, new MC!

Great vid. A couple of guys I fly with own that plane and they love it. I'd caution you about using hot glue on something like that. Especially with Summer coming on. Anyone who has to travel with their hot glued plane in a vehicle should use care. The glue can soften in a hot car or a hot day. An unsavory result can happen, particularly on parts of the plane that are stressed like a fuselage might be. Looks like you could replace the fuse, control rod, and worse case the motor and be fine. That's the route I would go. Of course, this vid was from 9 months ago so I'm sure you're back airworthy. Happy flying.

Uhhhhhh....suggestion. I like the "idea"....but maybe have Abby make a list of all the maneuvers ahead of time...then put them together in a display program (add music?). This is how full size aerobatic pilots do it. I can empathize...I too have "drove" one straight into the ground. The results were pretty much the same. Mine was balsa...so "hot glue" wasn't the fix. Will look to the "replacement" favorite Plane. Sorry for your bad day Nate. Wouldn't be without AMA.

Your not alone friend. Buy 2 more right now. Put one in a time capsule and fly the other one. Use the original for spare parts or replace the damaged parts as it doesn't look quite that bad. Now you two sit down and get all your flying maneuvers/terminology ironed out so she can call out a pre planed flight pattern that you can both agree on in advance. That would be really good practice for you but if she just calls out random maneuvers, it could lead you right into the dirt. Don't blame her though, she baited you into something you weren't quite ready for. In any case, glad it hit the grassy dirt instead of the asphalt. That might have been even worse. You just crunched the fuse, cowl and prop adapter. Not sure about the motor, but it might be OK. It's amazing how the prop didn't break. If the prop adapter is not bent at all, I'll be even more amazed. Fuse is $75 Cowling $7 Prop Adapter $6 Miscellaneous parts no more than $12, so you're looking at $100 if nothing is wrong with the motor shaft or a bit more for a new motor. Not too shabby. Here is a piece of advice that I myself am trying to follow as well. Learn to fly straight lines really well, then do your knife edge pass on that basic straight line or four point roll etc. It's all based off of a straight line at the same altitude keeping wings level. I'm working on the same thing right now as well but I'm still doing it higher up. After you work on the same exact flight pattern up high and can do it comfortably, bring it down lower as you feel comfortable. I love this plane too and would buy another one in a heartbeat or buy the replacement parts. I wish I had someone to call out maneuvers like that from a planed sequence. You'll be back up on your favorite plane in no time Nate.

My Concendo developed an elevator flutter after trying an inverted show pass and crashed trying to right the plane. I actually had it back but panicked when I got too low and the plane ended up flying at me. I really got dumb thumb and stalled it. It was right into the dirt next to me and mashed it in a few places. I did get it all back together and it flew well, the next time out, flutter, flutter. Crashing is part of the hobby. Good job Abby, enjoy that plane( they fly better after a crash and repair).

New tricks best practiced on the sim first. It happens, all part of this amazing sport. I actually really enjoy repairing them. Love your videos.

Ouch! That definitely hurts. But you're so right. It's just foam. No one was hurt, and ice you get it back together, you won't worry so much about crashing it any more.

Please don’t use hot glue on that repair. Hot glue gets soft in a hot car. I’d recommend Foam-Tac by Beacon adhesives. It will be stronger than before the crash making that plane better than new. It also remains flexible rather that brittle. It’s very easy glue to work with and won’t burn your fingers like hot glue will.

I’m sorry about your loss. I also have a Commander and is a very nice plane, I love it. But I think you can repair it, it seems the wings are OK and the rest is epoxy, rubber bands and a lot of patience

Don't feel bad. Flying inverted requires you to override specific muscle memory. Rudder and elevator are changed, but ailerons are the same. Your best friends for learning to fly inverted are altitude and/or a sim. 😉

I like that plane, and feel bad that it's your fav. Just get a new fuselage and fix her, or let Abbie get you a new one. You can keep the wreckage as spare parts in the future. For sentimental reasons, my eflite 1.1m PT-17 is my favorite, she's had some repairs (she's discontinued). Deep breath, brother, the only way to not crash is not flying. It was fun while you were doing it.
