I enjoy the off meta builds. The sign of a balanced games is being able to employ different strategies successfully. Terran mech being ineffective, non blink protoss being ineffective, etc shows there's still work to be done. This games existed long enough that this should have been ironed out by now.

I've always wondered what would happen if the many campaign-only units were hyper nerfed to be balanced and available in multiplayer matches, but in selectable role slots that would require being unable to make other units of the same role (for example, choose Firebats over Marauders and can't have move). Would Dragoons A-moving end up too strong to ever justify using Stalkers? Would people end up spamming Vultures SC1 style over bothering with Widow Mines? Would Brustalisks be a worthwhile option over Ultralisks? Would anyone ever use the Predator as anything but a meme?

@joshuakim5240 it would be easier to balance, but take away variety. The goal is to have the most variety with the most balanced races. It's both a fix and a hindrance. The game was not created to be balanced around multi-player games. But, if you balance the thre races in 1v1, you'll achieve balance in 2v2, to the greatest extent posdible.
