@@lebrongalvez Absolutely! I was thinking that my first 49er game was gonna be a playoff blowout loss, but then they turned it into one of the best games I've ever been to. My uncle is a massive giants fan and also superstious. To this day in 2023 he still blames me and my parents for leaving his house early while the game had been going so well for the giants. He swears we messed it up because the comeback started right after we left and he asked us not to haha. we listened to the radio on the drive home laughing but also knowing how insane he would be about it haha. great memories (for me)

Eagles fan, but at 8:54 J.J Stokes is undoubtedly holding G-men CB on the Garcia bootleg. Great playcalling, but should have been a flag without question. Neither ref even sees it as they laser focused on Garcia. Wow. It's a pretty blatant hold too.

Except they should have lost, and the NFL famously apologized to the Giants afterwards. There was even talk of replaying the final play but they decided against it due to logistics. For years the Giants had the apology letter from the League hung framed in the old Giants Stadium. Had everyone not rushed off the field so fast the refs would have correctly called the penalties on the last play and the Giants would have re-kicked the chip shot field goal for the win.

I will say that the Yankees losing 4 in a row, after all my obnoxious friends couldn't keep their mouths shut about how invincible they were, and not long after A-Rod swatted the ball out of Arroyo's glove, was just as sweet to me as this Niners win.

That failed Giants FG at end was being tried on 3rd down. Had the time not been used up, the Giants would have gotten another chance. (Should have been a spike?) I found this game among thr 2002-2003 NFL playoffs (i.e., following the 2002 season, because the playoffs come after New Year's ). There was no (defensive) pass interference called, but the Giants were flagged for ineligible man downfield, and the game clock was out of time, so the game could end on the offensive penalty. The next day, it was announced what the correct calls were, although this could not affect the game: Yes, it was defensive pass interference Yes, there was ineligible man downfield, but not on the on-field-cited player, who had reported as being eligible. So there would have been offsetting penalties, and there would have been untamed play (even though this wasn't just a defensive penalty??).

Well the plan was to run Barber in the 2nd half against a tired 49ers defense. I guess the 49ers anticipated that plan and focused hard on it. By then it was too late for NY to change tactics again... 16 points straight then 19....then 25...

I remember this game back in the day. I've been a life-long 49er fan and I still have to say 2 things about Terrell Owens. First, the guy is a ridiculously great athlete. Seeing him being about to put defenders on their ass after he caught the ball was amazing to watch. Second, the guy was absolute locker-room cancer. I don't know if I've ever seen someone sew discord in a team anywhere near as badly as TO did both in San Francisco and Philidelphia. He'd somehow manage to carry his team into the playoffs, then damned near break the team apart once they were knocked out of the playoffs because everyone hated each other. To be the cause of both is just unbelievable. I just don't know how someone can be so good and so bad at the exact same time.

Same here. Lifelong Niner fan and I was thrilled when TO was gone. He whined about Garcia not going deep enough. So they put Rattay in, who had a hell of an arm, then TO dropped pass after pass right on his hands. Hell, in the "The Catch 2" game, it wouldn't even have been close if TO hadn't been dropping passes in the endzone.

Man, I appreciate you showing the full rollercoaster from late 3rd quarter instead of just the highlight reel TD stuff. Got to relive every heart attack moment - that 4th & 5 conversion, Reynolds almost dropping that bomb from Goff, St. Brown going God mode, every time our defense somehow held up... even caught myself holding my breath during plays I KNEW we won 😭 Those last 20 minutes felt like 3 hours when watching live and somehow you captured all that tension perfectly. This wasn't just a game, it was a whole movie. 🦁

Stratham pointing at the scoreboard after the 2-point conversion really exposes how these comebacks happen. Teams get up big start thinking it’s over, let the other team get momentum, and by time they realize they’re in danger they’re flailing and panicked.

Long time niners fans know Giants in the playoffs are intense games, unfortunately the Giants have gotten the better of us in the playoffs… dating back to the LT days in the 80s, they beat us in the early 90s to prevent us from 3peating and they beat the Jim Harbaugh Alex Smith team that I thought had a chance to win the SB. For Junkin, the Giants' long snapper, this was his last game in his NFL career. What an awful way to end it. As for their kicker, 27 year old rookie Matt Bryant, who'd go on to play until he was 44 (in 2019) primarily for the Falcons, being known as one of the best kickers in the NFL over his career. Somebody on the kicking unit will always get blamed when they don't save the team's ass. As a former dedicated Vikings fan, I think of Blair Walsh vs. Seattle, who was blamed for missing an easy FG but nobody blamed the SCORELESS offense. I also think of Gary Anderson, whose ONLY MISS of the entire season is blamed for their loss to Atlanta, despite the defense being the real reason - allowing ATL to march right down and score immediately after to tie it up.
