Grenade launcher guardsmen are great because it knocks the enemies around and into the air, meaning they literally can't fight and their formation is fucked :)

I actually am old enough to remember WA multiplayer from early 2006. That year or so between it coming out and Dark Crusade balancing things. There was no cap on elite infantry so every match would be like 6 ogryn or nobs per player, and units were accurate while moving and shooting so eldar guardians and tacs were oppressive early game spam DC came out and balance things pretty hard and most cheese strats went away. Elite infantry caps, 90% accuracy debuf while moving and other stuff

A Ghost Recon style game as Sly Marbo might work, as for Cane and Yarrick... frankly I'm not too sure. Perhaps a StarCraft style RTS for Yarrick with him as your "hero" unit, and a Mount and Blade style game for Cane?
