One of my favorite scenes in the entire series. Chris and Michael are both victims. Chris could not contain the absolute rage when it comes to knowing a predator had entered Michael’s life, and did what all of us want to do, beat this man to death with his bare hands.

Such a great example of show them, don't tell them: we had enough little hints through Michael to know about what his little brother's dad had been doing, Chris's subtle expression after Snoop was asking what he had done to Michael told us he understood why, and then Chris absolutely unleashing on the man told us that he was a victim as well. It's just brilliant writing. Plus on top of all of that, we also felt sympathy for Chris, easily the coldest and scariest character in the entire series.
@DevinJones-tc6cw Жыл бұрын
I know I definitely felt sorry for Chris which is really crazy considering the circumstances but there you go. Good riddance to be perfectly honest. This is honestly better than Marlo's moment (which was still great do *not* get me wrong) because one can only imagine what Chris has been through. The man has clearly been through some very terrible things.

There’s also a theory that Chris is a military veteran, and that he joined the military to get away from an abusive household as a child, which kinda ties into this

Chris might be one of the best written characters in the show, and it's all about what they don't say and allow us to read between the lines. Just that glance of understanding to Michael, and the way he acted so brutally when he's usually calm and collected ( never confirmed, but usually people believe he was part of the military at some point, and he does reveal a much bigger level of training with guns than any other character on the show). None of this is said, and that makes him both more human and more mysterious, if that combination was ever possible.

Chris is definitely a top tier Wire character idc. And he's the best hitter in the entire show. That beatdown was clearly personal and it made me look at Chris in a way different light while also shocking the ever loving *hell* out of me. Easily one of the best scenes out of this entire series.

When u guys were discussing why the want to keep Burrell, Formal paraphrased a quote we heard in Season 2: “We used to make shit in this country, build shit. Now we just stick our hands in the next guy’s pocket” It’s all a system about favors and paybacks. They’d rather keep Burrell probably cuz he owes them “loyalty” or a favor
@Kaspisify Жыл бұрын
And also, he's a known friend. Replacing him with a guy who has integrity and is not a company man like Burrell. That's a lot of pull and hold over a department that they'd give up. Not to mention all the experience and dirt Burrell has accumulated over all the years he's been in the department. Basically, replacing Burrell is letting go of potential control over the police department for whatever purpose they have at any given moment.

It's been hinted in previous episodes that whatever Bug's dad did in the past was enough for Michael to want him dead. Not just gone. But I think the way he got beat down is an equally disturbing look at Chris as a character and where his visceral rage was coming from in that moment... whew! I mean, even Snoop was shook.

A man understands another mans pain quicker than a female. Michael went through some kind of abuse, and Chris recognize it.
@lisannebaumholz5028 Жыл бұрын
So, a woman understands another woman's pain more readily than a male? Is that why men are often reluctant to acknowledge male abuse of women? Just asking... Most people (men & women) are very reluctant to accept that the people who most often abuse children come from within their own family circle. Relatives, friends and extended family members are responsible for the greatest proportion of child sexual abuse at every level of society all over the world. Turning a blind eye to it is the norm unfortunately.
@BruceJohnson-fo5ko Жыл бұрын
@@lisannebaumholz5028 know this is a acknowledge of male abuse as a juvenile. Many times when this happens more times never spoke on because to a masculine growing male. You are judged by your your friends and community. Automatically they are Seen as weak, a feminine and also gay. That is the view of the people around. So Michael would never say what his actions obviously showed to those that recognize this✌🏾

@@BruceJohnson-fo5ko Absolutely, it's great when any series shows that this a real experience for boys from many different communities. The conversation took a dark turn with Chris in the alley; seems to explain why he's so cold. I always thought Herc was genuinely trying to help Bubs but he had tunnel vision about the camera cos of new boss being a d*ck and he was understaffed. But yeah, on 2nd thoughts he did directly cause Little Kevin's death with that terrible interrogation...

Herc is directly responsible for Lil Kev’s death. Pulling him off the street with no plan and no assurance of his safety. He left him totally exposed and represents the type of treatment of witnesses that Carcetti was campaigning against.
@dudermcdudeface3674 Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't equate Herc to Walker. Herc is just an irresponsible simpleton. He beat Bodie the one time, but season 1 Bodie was already a lot bigger and tougher than Donut. I doubt he would have done that to a little kid just for stealing a car and running. Walker actually tortures the kid and tries to cripple him. Herc belongs working a grill in a fast food restaurant, but Walker belongs in prison.

I hate the saying Bodie feeling guilty, like they said Heat was on the street already about Lex. Remember They were looking for him when he disappeared. So Kevin was gone when Chris told him to lead Lex. I think he brought that for involving Randy.
@MrIndiemusic101 Жыл бұрын
I don't think Bodie was aware of Randy as a person at all. From his perspective all Kevin told him was he got picked up by the cops and they let him go and Kevin shut his mouth. He gave well intentioned advice for Kevin to tell Marlo to get ahead of the situation as a show of good faith to Marlo. But that's what got him killed because marlo was aware of Randy loose end. So from Bodies perspective it makes sense that he feels guilty as well as anger toward Marlo as from his perspective he thought he did everything by the book and that Marlo would be respectable enough to see that, and Marlo still killed his friend.
