"If you don't have a woman for a long time, this always leads to the fact that you stop appreciating your freedom." My interpretation: If you don't have a woman, you take your freedom for granted. But if you have a woman, you may lose your freedom, or you realize that your freedom is threatened by her demands and expectations.

Don Juan a Yaqui way of Knowledge, I read this book almost 30 years ago. As relevant today as it was back then.
@carolebarker2195
@carolebarker2195 2 жыл бұрын
I've read most of Castaneda's books about Don Juan's teachings and a lot of these seem to be fake, or are worded wrongly. For instance, "does this path have a heart, if the answer is no, you must choose another path." Don Juan actually said "then you must not follow it under any circumstances." My favourite quote of his, which isn't here, is "A cubic centimetre of chance pops up in front of your eyes from time to time. To be a man, is to develop the prowess to see it and pick it up."

What about the Book by Carlos Castaneda of Him or Someone who experiences being Changed into a "RAVEN" and having the ability to FLY?
@carolebarker2195
@carolebarker2195 2 жыл бұрын
@@JamesBond-ml3zp It's a while since I read the books, but I think it was the first one "The teachings of Don Juan", or possibly "A Separate Reality" where he talks of turning into a crow and flying with, what he perceived under the influence of mushrooms or some other hallucinogen, a flock of silver crows. He had a long conversation afterwards with Don Juan where he asked him, if he had seen him would he have perceived him as a crow, would he have looked like one. Don Juan steadfastly refused to answer the question, emphasising that if Carlos felt like a crow and perceived reality as a crow, then to all intents and purposes, he was one! I think this was what you meant, I don't remember him changing into a raven. They're a cracking good read those books. They shake up your perception of the world.

Interesting thoughts. I'll add this: We often long for the opposite of what we have. When we are single we long for a companion and when we have company we dream of solitude. But I have heard with the right person and with the correct attitude time seems to go by very quickly, and you hardly feel you have had enough together. Either way, there is likely a season for all things in life.

I have been married for 56 years. I read Castaneda in the early 70s and it upended my world view in a good way. I also had a near death experience caused by an overdose of mushrooms in the early 80s. This extraordinary reality helped me see the luminous lights that connects us to everything in nature. I seen the white light that pulled me toward it and realized clearly what was most important. I was not afraid of dying, but I did not want to leave my wife and children and everyone in my life at the time. This experience over 40 years ago have the rest of my life meaningful. I say, "I have such very time and I want to spend it all with you." I am a song writer musician and this and I have written over 50 songs, most were inspired by my love for my wife. Castaneda and my experiences lead to a great life. Everything worth learning came the hard way for me. I have made a lot of mistakes but my wife stood by me. Learning to live everyday as your last helped me lose fear of dying. Learning to love unconditionally, learning to accept others as the are have invaluable.

I've read several of Castanedas books. Even though there is criticism on him, and the validity of his accounts, the wisdom still holds. On a separate note, through my life these bits of wisdom and stories have alwasy been with me. I've partook in the mushroom, mescaline, and others. I still one day will seek out the little smoke. I wish Castaneda knew what all went into it besides datura. But if not, it isn't a thought. Now the path I'm on has me a family, coming up on 3¹/² years into a blacksmithing career and clean from mind numbing opiates. Take care everyone who sees these.

I think that all or very nearly all of these quotes are valid & useful - if Don Juan really did say them all, then I am willing to believe and suspend judgement. For me the most useful by far has been to strive to lose one's own self-importance - its vital in order to be happy & unencumbered by the useless & counterproductive feelings - in which I used to be submerged, just like most folks.

I think people are misinterpreting the "woman" quote. He is actually saying that when you're alone (from a straight man's perspective, in this case) for a long time, life becomes boring, and you grow to desire a woman (to provide guidance, advice, etc). A couple of sayings similar to this are: "La vida es de dos," "Life is made of two" (roughly translated) and "Con dos manos se hacen las tortillas," "Tortillas are made with two hands."

Sometimes he talks nonsense. 'Things don't change, only the way you look at them.' The terrible change for my parents' generation was the Depression, the rise of Fascism and Stalinism and World War II. For mine, the Cold War, globalisation, and the destruction of our ecosystems. These are real. It is not all about subjectivity.

I had read most of the books by Carlos Castaneda and really enjoyed this recap. Two things could improve the sequel. First, have it read in a real human voice. Second, ditch the east Indian sitar music and find something reminiscent of Don Juan's native Mexico. I was continually distracted by both of these choices.

“Your problem is that you think you have time.” The Cosmos, the Tao, Great Nature, the Dharma … whatever … all express by creating-sustaining-annihilating. Lather-Rinse-Repeat. There are three paths within us through which the current of the Life Force flows. Upwards toward the Divine; downwards toward the Material; and outwards toward other beings. In this small sense … you ARE at the center. And so is everything and everyone else. Time. While we have it … we must become not just ‘alive’ but’enlivened’ to find and fulfill our destiny … our bestowed mission in this world. We get one chance … one shot. It’s a pity to miss the X-Ring.

Its almost funny that most quotes are true and an antidote for life itself, but not for a young person trying to make it in 2022 in today’s society (in a practical and realist way really) especially for the quote that talks about accomplishing things gently, with a great deal of effort but with no stress or obsession, the human body and mind cant handle what it takes to even own an apartment these days, let alone start a family or raise a child at the same time you’re trying to save yourself from the terror of being alive.
