Never seen an official statement on it, but Real Bout sure seems like it was planned as a Remake, then turned into a sequel. This is the final canonical entry just before Garou, so yes, Terry drops Geesse twice from his tower

Something I love about the Terry Geese battle in this game is that Terry tries to save Geese even after a Triple Geyser but Geese just pulls a huge, "YOU DIDN'T WIN" by forcing himself to fall.

The super system for the Real Bout games work like this: if you have full meter and over 50% Health, you can do your basic super at the cost of the super meter (this is signified by your meter displaying "S.Power"). If you don't have full meter and less than 50% Health (the health bar is flashing red), you can do your basic super as many times as you want. If you have full meter and less than 50% Health, you can do your advanced super at the cost of the super meter (this is signified by your meter displaying "P.Power").

My favorite thing about the Fatal Fury series is the localized South Town group (Art of Fighting being a bit of an offshoot which is neat!) I also love that originally it's just a good ol' revenge story

To be honest, Vanilla Real Bout is probably my favorite pre-Garou Fatal Fury. In terms of both aesthetics and gameplay, I vastly prefer it to RBS and RB2. And when I say "vastly prefer the gameplay," I mean "SNK, if you take away my Power Dunk again, we're gonna have words." On another note, if Southtown is the Miami of the Fury-verse, can we get a "Florida Man Launches CEO Out Of Tower With Power Geyser" headline?

I'm 100% with you on FF vs SF. Street Fighter definitely means more to me overall, but I would be much more excited for a new Fatal Fury than I would be for another Street Fighter. Also I would love a series on the Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting lore. I love your vids also mate, been watching since Previously On X-Men was posted on Gametrailers way back in the day.

The Fatal Fury and KOF games are separate SNK universes. Since Art of Fighting and Fatal Fury are connected story wise, it's considered canon. Art of fighting takes place in the late 70's while Fatal Fury takes around the late 80's, early 90's. I'm guessing in order to have Art of Fighting and Fatal Fury go at it and be around the same age, they created King of Fighters as a separate universe.

Green blood is censored blood, its red in the JP version Real Bout Fatal Fury is my personal favourite of the series. Not too busted, and its good fun. Has its problems, like ring outs are easy to do, but its still a good game. Better than Fatal Fury 3 anyway, which its an improved version. Just write the moves down, because the bastards are all different than the usual KOF inputs. Supers use 2 button inputs and need meter, or can be spammed in red health, while desperation moves need both gauge and red health, meaning they cannot be spammed. Terrys power guyser is done with QCB, Down+Back, Forward then Punch and Heavy attack, while the triple guyser (red health desperation gauge move) uses the same movement but only uses a Heavy attack. Weird ass system, but ok when you get used to it, it balances the game to a certain extend at higher level play

I'm not an expert, but I'm pretty sure of the following info. The Kof timeline and the Fatal Fury timeline are different. The art of fighting unfolds like a decade earlier in the FF timeline, Ryo makes the Ryu movement and travels the world perfecting his art as Mr Karate.Geese really survived the fall of FF!. In FF3 he obtains the scrolls of something something that give you immortality, but his goal was to destroy them, so no one (not even himself) achives immortality...... And Jin Chonshu is actually a boy. Sorry for any grammatical error. English is not my first language. PD: Keep up the great work man! I really enjoy your videos!

I always flip-flop between this game and Fatal Fury Special as to which is my favorite Fatal Fury game. Canonically, if I remember the story to this game, it follows after Fatal Fury 3, in which Geese gets a hold of whatever those MacGuffin Jin scrolls were from that game, straight up destroys them because they didn't contain anything he wanted or cared about, and then just holds another tournament. It's supposed to be the end of the Terry/Geese saga as well. Real Bout Fatal Fury Special and Real Bout Fatal Fury 2, on the other hand, are basically dream matches from what I recall.

The arcade version of this is far the most hard version of this game, at least I felt that when playing it and yes there is blood in the original, it might be the case why they replaced it with green goo instead, it's honestly lame. 1:49 The narrator says "Real Bout" but you just talked over it lol 17:04 That is a fake out move, it's useful in tricking the other playing but I don't think it works against CPU.

Ok to help clear things up for Matt if he ever reads this: Real Bout is the sequel to FF3 and the Real Bout sequels are all dream match games. Geese decides to host a tournament to have one final battle with his arch rival, the lovable but pinheaded son of the ice cream man, Terry Bogard. Kof and FF were made by different teams which let them get released at around the same time. In Terry's FF3 ending he takes in a youngster under his wing. This game shows him hanging out with said youngster. They never say his name but this kid grows up to become Rock Howard.

Southtown is an awful lot like Miami, but it has Hawaii-like mountains all around it, according to the look (and stages) of a lot of the games. Including Geese's stage, for that matter, right here in this game. Maybe that's because that's the only place in the US that Japanese devs ever went on vacation.

About the green blood; its the same as Samurai Shodown 2 for the Neo Geo CD. The International version has green blood but if you choose the Japanese version in the options, you get red blood. I suppose as long as the liquid is not red, its not blood in any country that's not Japan.

I wish other games added breakable walls even if is just as a cosmetic. On SFV reveal I expected to be like that and got realy hype :( Jin Chonsu is also a man. It took me forever to discover since he is so androginous and info hard to come by on the arcades. Street Fight 3rd strike is the last cannonically and happens around 99-2000 they're stuck in this time

Try Kizuna Encounter with the tag mechanics/double special moves Matt! (the super moves are super easy to learn and nobody shows it on the youtubes) That cheesy game deserves more love. Other fun fighting game playthroughs: - Psychic Force 2 on ps1 - Tobal 2 with super complex grab system! (also that game has kamekameha moves that cost you life bar) - Bushido Blade 2 with all the crazy unlockable chars)
