@TheKyrix82 8 күн бұрын
@sjmcc13 He absolutely would. Luke's DEFINING TRAIT is his impulsiveness, acting without thinking. If you'd paid attention you'd also notice that his IMMEDIATE response was "Why the fuck did I do that?". This is the man Yoda told "Don't take your weapons I the cave" and Luke did it anyway. This I the man Yoda told "You can lift the X-Wing, you only THINK it's too big" and Luke failed because he doubted it. This is the man Yoda told "Don't leave your training early, you might ruin what your friends accomplished" and left anyway, lost his lightsaber and his hand, and had to be rescued by the people HE came to rescue. Luke doesn't think before he acts, nor does he think much for himself at all. The ONE TIME acting on impulse worked for him was throwing away his lightsaber and taunting Palpatine, and that STILL bit him in the ass and got his father killed.

I always thought it's because men find Joseph Campbell's "hero's journey" compelling storytelling; that is, we like our heroes to start weak and become strong through trials, setbacks, overcoming obstacles, etc because "becoming" is a powerful theme in boys' lives. Women don't find the hero's journey compelling; rather, they gravitate to the "Mary Sue," the protagonist who is naturally and effortlessly smart, beautiful, elegant, resourceful, and whom everyone admires and wants to be friends or romantic partners with, because "being" is a powerful theme in girl's lives. This is why Lucas wrote Luke's story as "becoming" and Leia's story as "being," because the man knew what he was doing.

It's the same with Leia in the OT, they can't acknowledge that "strong women" existed in star wars. @WolfODonnelfan An example of good diversity I like to point out is Telltale's The Walking Dead games. Lee and Clem were AMAZING characters, and they succeeded as diverse individuals not because of blatant pandering, but because their roles weren't bogged down by meta political narrative or specifically pushing that they were in fact diverse as if it were a game play feature, the way it's treated a lot of times now.

That's not saying a whole lot. They couldn't stomach people making a connection to Christianity in the Jedi, so they spent most of the movies turning Jedi into the biggest dumbasses ever. Maybe they shouldn't have called them knights then. Anakin was so poorly acted and hollow as a character that they invented two Clone Wars series to try to wash the stink of disappointment out of people's mouths. I never got into Clone Wars. I couldn't care less about it. The way they make Anakin look and act on those shows makes him look like he has amnesia by the time Revenge of the Sith is supposed to happen. You don't get a chance to sweep that under the rug with me. And then of course they retroactively gave him Ashoka as a padawan after the council refuses to give him the title of Master in the movies. Sure, you only need to be a Knight in order to get a padawan to teach since that's what you need to do in order to become a Master. But this Ashoka character presumably goes on to do amazing things under his guidance and become beloved by a bunch of the new fans, right? And even so, by Revenge of the Sith, Anakin isn't worthy of being a Master? Are you kidding me? Ashoka came off pretty annoying to me too, actually. "Oh fine, let's make him kill some kids. That's "evil" isn't it? Evil enough to get a pass for completely half-assing Anakin's characterization!" What an asspull. No one can mention the prequels around me. I start making fart noises to the tune of the Gungan parade from the ending of Phantom Menace.

The show continued the destruction. Unless a company is intentionally not hiring XYZ people. Increasing the women at Lucasfilm is forcing less talent. There's a reason why there's not a lot of women at the place. Women, more so than men. Do not find those job positions wanting. Just like the primary demographic for Soap Opera's are women. I don't see them going after the male demo, to increase it. You know why? Because they have to ALTER Soap Opera's to do that. Than they aren't Soap Opera's anymore. White people is just the majority demographic in the United States. And Star Wars was a global brand. Now, you have made that brand for nobody but yourself. Steven Spielberg was right to snub you at the release party of Indiana Jones.

This is what happens when you hire for diversity over quality If the only person who fits diversity has none of the skills and fits only the stereotypes you want to fill You not only fail to make a good product, you set back all kinds of progress you claim as ideology by highlighting those negative stereotypes and strengthening divides. It's not even culture or counter culture, it's anti culture.

"Why is it when women are in charge it sucks" The truth is that its not about men or women, its about their goals leading INTO their control. A person hired to be in charge of a product usually would want to simply create the best product possible and be as successful with its production as possible. However, if you are hired into a position with the goal of sending a message completely unrelated to the product, theres OBVIOUSLY going to be quite a change in quality due to a lack of focus in the parts that actually matter to the product. Now dont get me wrong SOMETIMES its possible to sustain both messaging and quality, but the person hired has to actually be talented/skilled in the first place to pull something like this off. Sadly its possible this person wasnt hired due to their skill and only because of their ideology.

Self Insert fanfics are actually awesome, assuming that the self-inserts are actually interesting, the writing is good and the other characters aren't garbage. The challenge with SI fanfics or any fanfics is that you need to actually write the canon characters 'properly' without greatly altering their personalities or other nonsense for no reason. Which is something that happens often(And basically what they do in a lot of these 'canon' star wars stories). Basically, you have to write actually interesting and likable characters. If you wanna do a self-insert, you gotta be Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool or something like that. Where the actor and the character are both good/interesting. Honestly, a lot of Deadpool stories/comics are practically fanfics, but they're interesting and fun. That's why they're so popular lol.

Rogue One! Observe - it checks all the same boxes. Girlboss, diversity, everything. But! It respects the existing lore and characters, and is written well. Surprise, people love it. Good movie is good.

A character with no weakness is a bad character no matter the gender, seems to be pretty basic to me, one would really expect people in film production would know that.

Ignoring that it's a robot that just goes by whatever the factory/user assigned... R2D2 rather fixes spaceships than go to therapy. Not to mention he sticks his little metal thing into everything he can. Pretty sure our little ph@lic shaped friend, who's been refered to as he/him for decades is male. To play their game: Interesting that Disney can misgender one of the faces of Star Wars on pride month and the (not at all biased) media doesn't write a dozen hitpieces...

The whole thing about Leia and the bikini is an entirely cooked argument anyway. By return of the Jedi Leia was already established as a badass who regularly had to save other character's asses because she was fucking competent. The whole thing with the bikini wasn't meant to demean Leia but to both establish Jabba as a threat (who in the original cuts had only been mentioned as a background character up to that point) and to further establish Leia as a badass, then once she's stripped down she still takes advantage of the first chance she gets to murder her captor who's the most dangerous crimelord in the galaxy. Yeah that's not feminist at all, star wars was always feminist, it didn't need to be changed. Edit: I will say though that she's showing her own lack of knowledge or understanding of the franchise with her opinions of Ahsoka. Ahsoka was initially disliked because the made for TV animated feature she was introduced in was one of the most terrible things in the entire franchise, it got worse ratings than the christmas special, and this was all before Disney bought lucasfilm. Thing is through the clonewars series and later rebels she got a huge amount of very meaningful development, and unlike Rey they actually took the time to show her going from a tallented kid to a very skilled and capable adult who mentored other characters. Ahsoka is now one of the most beloved female characters in the series by the fanbase, so Sydney is talking out her ass whenever she mentions her.

i find it funny that all these actors that are saying this safe space shit are also wealthy and privileged people that have most likely never had any of what they spout happen to them and are projecting to feel relatable, kinda like when rapper's talk about the hood but never been to the hood because they were raised in middle class home. edit note: also why does everything have to be diverse, i mean u wouldn't want a african tribe movie with random white and asian people in it playing tribes people so why is it wrong for fiction to have races split up between planets or continents that sometimes dont get along because culture or just never seen each other.

Because you also need to be a sci-fi or fantasy fan, and not as many women are. Not all genres appeal to both genders equally, but we only seem to see this forced marketing from the mostly male appealing ones. How many romances are getting made to attract male viewers?
