Over the next 20 years, the center of gravity of the world economy will shift to the Indo-Pacific region, the countries around the Indian and Pacific Oceans. What will the world look like if China is soon the world economic leader?
We seem to be at a turning point in our history. While one superpower, Russia, is showing its true dictatorial face with the invasion of Ukraine, the other superpower, China, is also taking an increasingly clear position. According to forecasts, this country, with its 1.4 billion inhabitants, will overtake the US as a world economic power sometime in the next 20 years.
Will we then fall back into a cold war mindset where two rival superpowers face each other as arch-enemies? Or will we move toward a multipolar world, where we will have to share power in the world?

I'm from Taiwan. I support unification with China. No matter how the western media tries to portray, "Taiwanese" share the same culture, language, etc., as Chinese in China. (BTW, did you know we have ~half of the 5000-year Chinese treasures in Taiwan that we moved from China during the Chinese Civil War in 1949?) 98% of the people came from China. We're destined to be one country no matter how the West tries to stop it.

The most interesting sentence was even if people in Catalonia wanted to separate and voted in a referendum twice successfully to separate from Spain, this was not allowed with the approval of EU !!!! So what was good for the gander isn't good for the goose !!!! Why would Taiwan be any different from Catalonia ? US ready to go to war over Taiwan but won't budge about catalonians !!! Give me a break. Taiwan is just an excuse for the US to extend its hegemony !!! The West has no credibility on this issue.

Twenty years ago the demand for independence in Taiwan was far less an issue, they were growing closer naturally with trade , family connection and tourism. Since then the pro-independence faction have been spreading their agenda encouraged by the US without the best interests of the people of Taiwan. The US pretense of spreading democracy and freedom is false. The US has been a plutocracy for decades, the American people's demands are rarely supported; it is by the 1% for the 1%. The results of the US spreading "freedom and democracy" can be clearly seen in the ME and Central America. The US is just another hegemonic Empire with no honest values, Asian people should look at their history with western Empires and the young people of Taiwan should not forget 228 and the 39yrs of White Terror resulting from US interference. For The US, Taiwan is seen as just another addition to 800+ military bases from which to "contain and threaten " China.

This documentary is less biased than BBC, CNN, or Fox news. But it doesn't have the direct voice from a regular Chinese in mainland China. Ordinary Chinese especially young generations are very supportive of their current central government, and they are more proud of current China's achievement than any generations before. @@dodieodie498 Declining birth rates is a common issue that countries face as they become industrialized and developed. Toss in stiff competition with a toxic work culture and a lack of immigration, you have a problem that is most accentuated in the East Asian region (Japan, China, and South Korea). So birth rates is a factor more associated with socio-economics rather than the approval rate of their governments. Similarly, White Americans in the USA also experienced a consistently declining birth rate since America's peak in the 80s, a trend which begun even earlier. The American replacement rate today is largely sustained by immigration and, generally speaking, people in the lower tax brackets-regardless of their confidence in the US.

For example, Taiwaness people' s understanding of China mainland probably matches the situation about 30 years ago. US views of evil China is just ridiculous. There is a huge change of attitude towards US in China in the past 10 years, especially among young people. Media plays a very important role in these misunderstanging. We need to have much better understanding of each other. Just visit each other, see the place with your own eyes and talk to local people would make a huge difference.

It's not just the US who has terrible views of China. Literally all of its neighboring countries along with the bulk of SEAS countries, including the Western countries all have negative views of them. It's not a misunderstanding. It's China's bullying and political manipulation which is giving themselves a terrible reputation and these countries are simply taking a stand against their BS now. I'm so glad it's happening. Definitely benefits the world to develop new supply chains, because everyone is sick of China's crap, and they forget that the USA built them up from the ground up by opening trade and investing in that country (along with technology transfers and overlooking the IP thievery China does because they're not smart enough on their own), and getting other Western nations to invest in that country. They got more handouts than any other nation before it, and they then decide to bite the hands that feed it? Lol 🤡 it's what happens when your head gets too big for the body that carries it. Most Western media capture China’s economic rise by showing images of Shenzhen, Shanghai, as these images despite capitalism as perceive by the West. These images cannot capture the merits of the land reform and there implication to city planning, to high speed train development, to highway development, to containing port development, to canal development. They have not captured the most important element in economic development, which is the human capital development. This is more than just education. It is also about more freedom on career development. It is also about exposure. It is also about experience. When Shenzhen was first declared as a special economic zone 40 years ago, there were only 6 persons in Shenzhen had had a university education. Today you can easily find more than 6 persons in an average cafe in Shenzhen with a doctoral degree. This cannot easily be captured by visual images. The goal of US military since Pearl Harbor is to take wars outside US territory. China consider Taiwan as part of China. If China has to go to war, she would also want to take war to outside China’s territory. So think hard about it. Don‘r take things too far.

@Longsilog4920
@Longsilog4920 Жыл бұрын
@Siu Hoi Lee, taking the war away from China seems to be the intent of Xi Jinping and the CPC planning. For example the goal to fully modernize the military by 2027 and then have the most powerful military in the world by 2049. While most military development had been for defensive purposes in the last decade, it is clear the PLA are rapidly building their offensive capabilities now to be able to "win wars on every continent and in every ocean" as Xi said in the last year. The development of China's blue water navy with the new Fujian carrier, Type 55 destroyers etc. will surpass the Americans very soon in not just the largest navy but the most powerful. In this respect China will soon be ready for the inevitable war with their American enemies. But it would be best for China to wait another 8-10 years though to be at peak strength. While China is probably invincible in the East or South China Seas, the PLA Navy need building and training before they try to fight the Americans or even India in non-regional naval battles. I am not saying this is what the Chinese are wanting, only that it is inevitable. The Indians know for example that their only chance to beat China in a war is to blockade the Strait of Malacca and any other choke point to Chinese merchant shipping in order to force the PLA Navy into a non-regional battle where they will be more vulnerable. The Americans are likely pursuing a similar strategy. For example they are already stirring up cold war era type attacks on Chinese overseas interests with tactics such as proxy attacks, coups, color revolutions. Anything they can do to undermine China globally. Eventually it would not be a surprise to see them attack the Chinese base in Djibouti through some kind of proxy.

Or the US overthrowing democratically elected leaders and keeping violent dictators in powers, in countries all over the world, including Latin-America, which it has been treating like its own back yard (meddle as you please). It's always war and threats and division with the US. America is now at war with itself. Extreme inequality, extreme polarization, racial violence, gun violence, militarized police, culture wars, homelessnes, drug abuse epidemics. The US hasn't brought peace and stability. It's brought arms race, tensions, instability, exploitation. It is the largest historical contributor to climate change, yet for decades it has either stubbornly denied its existence or failed to take appropriate measures. It's imposed a neo liberal free market economic system which exploits workers and nature to the point of collapse. It has failed to show restraint at the height of its power, starting a war under false pretenses and at one point planned to invade 7 (!) countries in the Middle East (they called it 'manifest destiny'). So no, America's rule has been anything but benevolent and I cannot see how the world would be anything but better off with American power receding. For thousands of years before 1800 ; prior to European and American ruthless imperialism overseas, China was a prosperous country and non- Western was relatively peaceful. History reminds us that the West has no moral right to speak about human rights to the Chinese for the atrocities committed against the Chinese by the British and Allied forces in the two Opium Wars (1839 - 1842, 1856- 1860) and in 1900 respectively. China's rejuvenation is restoring its geopolitical and geoeconomics positions back to where it was before the opium trafficking, Western military forces killed, plundered, looted , divided and destroyed peace on Earth.

Every single empire has done it. Egyptians, Romans, Greeks, Ottoman, Persian, Japanese, Dutch, Germans, British, and then US. This is nothing new. Empires rise and fall. We keep going through this stupidity of fighting and expanding one empire at the cost of another previous empire. Before Euro invasions, India and China accounted for majority of the world's GDP and it was plundered away. But CCP is expanding its empire through similar coercions as the old empires have done. When will this lunacy end? There are better ways to grow without coercion. CCP has literally engaging in shrewd and crazy ways: stealing US/West IP and tech, territorial aggression towards neighboring countries by force, building artificial islands in South China sea, predatory lending for less developed nations, running spy and bribing campaigns to bribe folks in the West etc India also wants to grow like China but it has no interest in growing through these cunning ways. China is better served to grow through its hard work and talent - and they can. Else, China may grow but no one is going to trust them. Most people still side with US and align with the values of the West. CCP does not have transparency, lacks trust, has distrust from many nations, closed markets and will be difficult for them to gain true trust and respect of the world with this mindset of force and coercion. I doubt they are going to change their aggression plans which in my opinion is the same lunacy as old empires have done - a mistake in my opinion.

Abstract from Prof Kishore's new book " Americans are proud of their democratic political system. But the facts show that America has increasingly come to resemble a plutocracy, where society is governed “of the 1%, by the 1%, for the 1%”. Is the United States of America still a functioning democracy or has it become, for all practical purposes, a plutocracy? And why is this question important? It’s important because the answer to the question of whether America has a dark or shining future will depend on whether it’s a democracy or plutocracy. Indeed, this question may well be the most existential question America has to address."

What type of freedom’s do Taiwan want’s. The freedom to starving or the freedom of been homeless…. Or the freedom that Americans society are having…. Freedom of destruction and freedom of corruptions. Or freedom’s on loosing your job….. your people who wants freedom they must understand that a country with such freedom will never 👎 survive…. Laws and oder are the key 🔑 to successful society…. And a leader has the responsibility of leading the country to great society…. Including economy success. Similar to parents who raise children….. discipline is important to every child….. a house with no discipline will create difunctional children, and parents must discipline their children in a similar way that a government must discipline their citizens for not fallowing the law. Freedom with out oder shouldn’t never happen. It only destroyed the country and the individual’s who’s practicing. Chinese president as doing a great job and he’s examples of how the rest of the world should be running. And Taiwan is part of the Chinese territory and Chinese military forces should control those people. And take Taiwan back by force.

I find this presentation objectionable, as follows: 1. The young lady from Taiwan is articulate. She makes the case that people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait have drifted apart in culture, tradition and value system over the decades. As such, the Chinese people in Taiwan no longer regard themselves as Chinese, rather, as separate people independent from China. This argument is ludicrous. The Chinese civilization goes back at least 4,000 years. A few decades is a blip in the continuum. In 221 BC, the Qin emperor conquered 6 other feudal states and united China as one people sharing a common government and civilization. Over 2 millennia, the Chinese people have stuck together through thick and thin. All Chinese should be proud of our enduring unity. Unity and harmony are in the DNA of the Chinese people. In contrast, conflicts, chaos and divisiveness are in the DNA of peoples in the west. 2. Taiwan's estrangement from China is a direct result of the turmoil pressed upon China by the imperial and colonial powers from the west and Japan from mid 18th century to mid 20th century. The last thing we need now is for the west to weigh in on how China should resolve this estrangement. It's akin to setting your neighbor's house on fire and then lecturing them on how they should put out the fire. Lordy, lordy! Some folks just know no shame. 3. Have you ever wondered why we don't see think-tanks and journalists from China weighing in on the merits of the Catalonian independence movement, the Quebec sovereignty movement or Scottish independence? That's because China respects other countries' rights to deal with their internal affairs. It's none of China's business. And, China does not pretend to own the best ideas and values that others must follow. Why can't the west extend the same respect and reciprocate? Clearly, the west has problems aplenty, perhaps they should work on those instead of sticking their noses into other countries' affairs. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter how many of these videos are propagated in the media, and what these "experts" espouse, it won't change China's instinct, yearning and aspiration to unify the county one iota.

China and Taiwan are technically still at war and have been pursing similar gaols, i.e the reunification of these two separate entities under one single ideology, may the winner win. What if Taiwan was much stronger and had hypersonic missiles and nuclear bombs that China doesn't have. Would the West have a different stance in that case and they've always backed Taiwan's goal of re unifying with China by overtaking China by force if necessary. I know, it sounds like fantasy that Taiwan can ever achieve their goal, but it's a goal they're willing to abandon when they realise they will have to embrace the mainland China ideology which they could have negotiated with to obtain a Hong kong style autonomy with certain bounds. But that's the price to pay when you're loser in a war, right ? Look at Japan which had to swallow the Plazza accords and abandon their ambition whenever the top dog ordered them to.

Taiwan embracing China is not such far fetched as you think. You assume that Taiwan was a bastion of democracy when it was a very authoritarian form of government much like the CPC led mainland till the late 90s. They had much in common before and even now. The China of today is far distant from the China of the 70s, or even to the late 90s. Aside from that the taiwanese people still have relatives in the mainland. Over 2 million live, work and study in the mainland. If you read western media, it seemed like the Taiwan Strait is about to explode from a tense and ticking time bomb situation. But the truth is without the US egging the present separatist taiwan administration, it would have just remained in the status quo.

@@rap3208 You are absolutely correct. The problem lies with the main instigator the US just like the current conflict in Europe. When you said that "I am not Chinese, i am Taiwanese!" Americans will probably gonna say, "It doesnt matter because you all look the same to me" and they would probably going to say the same thing every immigrants are used to hear, "Go back to where you came from!" or "Speak English if you want to live here!" Yes, It is not only in America, I think i am as an indonesian will never be able to differentiate both of them either. There is no point to push the agenda of how different Taiwanese are if they aimed to somewhat deny their Chinese roots. At the end of the day Taiwan's differences to China can only be seen by the people inside those two countries not anyone outside. *The rest of the world would only know them as one ethnicity: Chinese.* I am an Indonesian of Malay ethnic. We love to point out how different we are to our Malaysian counterpart but at the end of the day, both of us identify as "Malay people" and the only thing that really seperates us is our nationality not our culture.

You have a misunderstanding of how things work in the United States. Someone who is immigrating to the US is not supposed to carry with them their flag of national or ethno pride. They leave that behind and go there to become an American. Those who go there to become a "malay living in America" or any other national titles are not respected by the Americans. Because they dont go there to become Americans. So they are suspicious of them.

He absolutely hates NATO and thinks NATO is the cause of all Russian problems when its Russia causing their own problems. Jesus, I dislike what America does but they aren't the source of all problems especially the Ukraine war. Russia should have just coasted off of oil and invested in their people for other jobs to bring back its manufacturing base, expand in technology both software and hardware, invest in hard sciences - work on infrastructure. Instead the Oligarchs take all the natural resources Russia is blessed with to get fat off of. Nah Instead Vladimir looked at history and said - I will be the one to restore Russia to its former glory - I will reunite the old Soviet Union and make it stronger and better! THIS will be my legacy! I will be talked about over the ages of the great phoenix who rose from the ashes and spoked the raging fire that burns within each Russian from today and henceforth! I will be Vladimir Putin the Great! You're smoking the same stuff he is. Paranoid too. Western or allied defense companies from America, Europe, to South Korea thank Putin immensely for all the money they are now receiving Also great real world data on effectiveness or issues of their weapons systems and tactics. At the cost of the average Russian who now has to bleed due to a man who gives zero fucks about them. It is about his legacy. No country has ever seriously considered attacking and invading Russia. He and China could've just relaxed and let the West bicker and fight amongst themselves. Instead he lit a fire and strengthened western unity, military, 😅 and showed exactly why joining NATO is a good idea.

Please kindly be noted: 1\ Taiwan and Ukraine is different cases. Ukraine is a sovereign state but Taiwan is not. Before 1949, Republic of China was a the state wherein China National Party and Communist Party of China were two comrade parties working together overthow the feudalist Qing Dynasty. During the revolution, China National Party stabbed the CPC from behind and embraced landords and Western government, thus the two former brother parties became enemy. Anyway, in the time of contension, China National Party was thereafter the ruling party was later defeated andfled to Taiwai Province. Anyway, as a result of many decades of close relations with US government, US has been successful preventing CPC from recovering Taiwan. Later on, China National Party's ROC government on behalf of China in UN was deposed and replaced by Mainland's CPC government of PRC. Mark this, UN affirms PRC is the sovoreign representative of China and Taiwan is an integral part of China. Though US double handed for its own interest, USA government also accepted this principle. 2\ Mainland Chinese has always cherished Taiwanese as own sisters and brothers, therefore peaceful reunification with Taiwan has always been PRC's preferred solution. Anyway, with so many years estrangement and political profiteering and manuvring, Taiwanese tends to reach for their independence. In a legal perspective, this demands a referendum by all Chinese, not just Taiwanese. At present, this will come to nothing. 3\ The worsening situation makes peaceful reunification very unlikely, but reunification by force will infflict huge damages and injuries to Taiwan. This is why PRC government has been indecisive for past 20 some years. However, as more and more Taiwanese pivot to independence, PRC government and its army and people needn't cherish this brotherhood. 4\ Further to the current Ukrain war, everybody see how West are taking advantage of Ukraine just to weaken Russia. As for Taiwan, as a province of China, no Chinese political party dare to reounce its sovereinty, most Chinese will spare no effort or cost to recover our own land in face of imminent foreign occupation or declaration of independence of Taiwan. Chinese people treasure land, esp. our own land. Chinese people may be not good at grabbing other people's land, but we will die for safeguarding of our own land. 5\ Those Taiwanese who don't want to be Chinese can well emigrate to antwhere, e.g. America, for their own good. Those Taiwanese who stay and stand for independence, for Chinese they are traitors, will be crushed with no mercy. ------This an ordinary Chinese feelings regarding Taiwan. @@user-pp9pu6qo7j brother no one in the world takes the un seriously anymore, especially after their mismanagement and pandering to the ccp in the early days of the pandemic, Communist china and the uns stock has never been lower.
