I actually met Denise Richards on my internship a year ago, she’s very lovely. Was even nice enough to answer one question I had about this movie. I asked her if the wardrobe of Dr. Christmas Jones was based off of Lara Croft, she told me she technically doesn’t know but it wouldn’t shock or surprise her if it was.

The most memorable thing about this movie to me was the scene with Bond and Q (Desmond Llewelyn) where John Cleese's character was introduced. That was unfortunately Llewelyn's last appearance. The chemistry between Bond and Q in that scene was so poignant, and for once in all of the Bond/Q bickering and history, each showed that he really respected and cared about the other. There was a kind of sadness watching Q making his exit to the floor below, like you knew you were never going to see him again.

We played the Goldeneye game on Nintendo religiously when it came out. I think it's a different experience when you see a Bond in the theatre and then go home and see his face on the game that you play with your friends all day. @@AVPerth If GoldenEye was from Alec's perspective, it could almost be like an unrequited love song gone terribly wrong. "Other girls they gather around him. If i had him, I wouldn't let him out". It certainly seems like it's an outsider's perspective, certainly not Bond's... but the line about "You'll never know how I watched you from the shadows as a child" doesn't entirely work, unless Bond is significantly older than Alec. We know Alec was orphaned and raised by MI6 at the age of six, but Bond started work with MI6 at about 20... from what I could piece together, unless the canon changed with GoldenEye.
@nitehunter91
@nitehunter91 4 жыл бұрын
@@hoodyboody "As a child" refers to Alec being helpless as a child. About the "other girls", well, it's Tina Turner singing, but Alec did want Bond for himself to use in his vendetta (he knew he couldn't), so... The meaning is hanging in the air, but has some places to land.

I love the 90s tone, the complex plots (World is Not Enough is super complicated), I love Carver and Zukovsky coming back and that weirdly intense scene with Kaufman, and those crazy saw helicopter attacking a caviar house. And Q’s retirement hits me every time, it’s a genuinely great scene, and I love John Cleese as R/Q. The relationship between Bond and the Sophie Marceau character is pretty strong. I think it makes the movie, they have great chemistry and you really see that he loves her(see the bed scenes), it's not another sex kitten for him but he has to do what must be done. If you go back to Casino Royale, when Vesper dies, he acts like he doesn't care but he is sad about it. But it's different in the novel because he feels like she betrayed them and it cost people their lives and he feels no remorse. What they did there with Brosnan is very close to book Bond with the woman. It also gave you a different sort of villain for Bond, a different Bond villain because she was soft and tender, was not an action girl.

I thought this was good. It was a good movie. The script was interesting and made sense. The screenplay good and the action well coordinated. In fact of all Pierce Brosnan movies this was definitely the best. Though I disagree with you both Sophie Marcau and Denise Richards, though quite pretty, could not add anything either in terms of acting or glamour. In fact the lady who appeared briefly in the beginning and money penny left a better impression. The leading ladies were the weak points. Another weak point was that the main villain (or was he the main villain ?) was not given the importance in the script. Also the actor was very unimpressive. seemed like footballer from the Chzeck Republic. This movie needed better casting and it could have been a really good film. BTW this was the only Bond movie I have seen in the theaters.

This Bond film has grown on me in the past few years, it pushes the envelope a bit more by having a Bond girl be the villain. Bond being weakened by an injury and the henchman being one that can't feel pain that's a nice hero/villain dynamic. The action scenes are pretty good but they feel too excessive and not much to advance the story and at times looks like a TV movie. The best scene for me is Q's retirement, "Never let them see you bleed and always have an escape plan!" Not a horrible film but I think it deserves another look amongst the Bond franchise. But if Christmas Jones is a nuclear physicist then I'm Englebert Humperdink!

Michelle Yeoh was pretty badass in Tomorrow Never Dies though, I honestly enjoy the action sequences in that movie quite a bit. A severely underrated Bond film. I actually thinks it’s a bit better than Goldeneye. From the great locations, the not overly done camera work, the great villains, a darker Bond, dialogue and a story that never gets boring, a great Bond song by Garbage, and a great score from David Arnold, this movie is the complete package. I really don’t get the hate for this film. They kept things simple and made it work. It has gotten better over time and will stand out as one of the great James Bond films for years to come.

TND may have a stupider villain, but he's fun and oddly kinda has a point that controlling the media with 100% authority is a world-changing power move. it's still silly and stupid but it's fun and to me, and it still doesn't get to cartoony levels of Die Another Day. remote control car chase is somehow cool and fun while invisible car with missiles on ice is just stupid. it's a weird balance between cheese and cool that all bond films have to face I guess. This has always been my favourite Pierce Brosnan Bond movie. I think he gives his best performance. He still has that class and bravado with the great one-liners whilst also adding a darker side to Bond that isn't seen in his first two movies. I also think Elektra King is one of the best villains in the series. She definitely is the main villain of the movie. Aside from Denise Richards being totally un-believable as a nuclear physicist I think its a great movie.

Pls keep talking about some of the older bond movies. It’s pretty entertaining to watch a huge fan like yourself talk about them as someone who’s kinda too young to watch most of them.

Love this film. First Bond film I saw in the cinema. Sophie Marceau is an absolutely stunning Bond girl.

@@PurushaDesa There are Bond girls and Femme Fatales, the first category ends up being an ally (but can start as a villain) while the second category ends as a villain (but at first we can think they are an ally)

Space Ace That's quite a silly distinction because it imposes arbitrary rules that discount a plethora of femme fatales throughout the history of cinema. The only requirement is that they're seductive and have their own, often secret, agenda. It would be kind of odd to argue that Jessica Rabbit isn't a femme fatale simply because she's one of the heroes of the film, when her defining attribute is her seductiveness.

TWINE was my favorite Bond for a while there. A couple things: Bond suggests that Sophie Marceau’s character has Stockholm Syndrome but it is clarified during the strangulation scene that she is a survivor and just so charismatic that she actually turned her kidnappers. Other thing: I’m in the minority but I enjoyed Denise Richards in her role, because her casting and acting seemed to be in the campy spirit of her “character.” I still think she’s way better than Lois Chiles’ Dr. Goodhead in Moonraker. SHE was major drag on that film.

I think Richards brought nothing interesting to the role, but didn't get in the way of the character. Lois Chiles was okay. Her character was badly written. As every character in that movie, unfortunately. None there had solid motivations to do what they were doing, except Bond who had his standard mission.
