Cuties is a very feminist movie with an unfortunately sleazy ad campaign. 99.9% of the people freaking out about it never even watched it. I personally found it empowering and very moving, especially as the Muslim dancer deals with her father bringing a second wife over from abroad and shunting her mother into second place. There is a scene where the girls are hanging out at her house and open the door to a princess like room ready to receive hot new wifey, all pink and bows and totally untouched. The rest of the apartment is quite modest. The girls mother is relegated to a crappy room. In the end she decides not to attend the wedding in support of her mother. Also the Cuties get disqualified from the big dance contest for being too young to dance so suggestively. It's a really good coming of age movie directed by an African woman. It's like Foxes with Jodie Foster and Tatum O Neal..a movie dealing with young females learning the fun of dressing slutty and the power of being hot. How many female readers left the house dressed modestly and changed into something slutty in the bathroom at junior high and high school? Yes you did and you know it!

When vigilantism and profits collide with bad actors like many of the kick streamers, problems are bound to rise eventually. It moves the goalpost from "doing good" to "making money" which causes people to seek creative ways to create content rather than do good. This goes into faking the content, trapping people and lying about it, etc. With bad actors like these, you simply can't trust them on their track record, and it'll be rife with controversy sooner rather than later. Especially if they are faking it, or targeting vulnerable people. If they aren't getting the police involved, and aren't doing it the "right way" they're doing nothing good except seeking profit, and you can't be sure it isn't fake in the first place. Alex Ross being involved with the police and getting two locked up for over 30 years is the way to protect kids and get them off the street. That's how it should be done.

Only reason I kept responding to him was because he seemed like a sad fat kid and I felt sorry for him. But he'd mention things about how he likes to look at photos of girls who were his own age (15) and asked if I wanted to see them - refused him, never accepted, was on the verge of deleting him but his pathetic sob stories stopped me from doing it. A couple of times he tried to get me to talk to teenage girls etc., didn't do it, had no interest. Eventually he started posting pictures of d***s and I just blocked him. The To Catch A Predator line about some of the predators running off rather than 'having a seat' reminds me of one of the most chilling scenes from that show. There was this one older guy who didn't sit down, he didn't even react much to Chris walking in. He asked a couple questions about what Chris and the investigators had, questions that I don't remember but they were definitely different from anything else the other predators said or asked. Chris admitted that they didn't have a couple particular things but that it ultimately wouldn't matter, but the guy left and they just let him go. The guy knew the system. He knew how to protect himself from the law. Unlike most of the other predators it just seemed really clear that he knew what he was doing, and that he probably had done this before and possibly succeeded and got away with it.

I work in law enforcement, it needs to be vastly known that vigilantism makes the criminal untouchable (This happens a surprising amount). There has been way too many times that these predator catching groups didn't come to us first. The main issue is it can be evidence that is inadmissible in court, meaning that it isn't valid because it could be considered that the perpetrator was under duress and forced to admit something. What was the conclusion you came upon regarding the ethics of vigilantism? On one hand, I feel like normal people shouldn't be doing that stuff due to the fact that they could harm themselves, the suspect, or the people around them (preventing justice). On the other hand, law enforcement almost never get involved in cases like this to the point where bad people roam free because there "isn't enough evidence" or that "no one was harmed" (also prevents justice).

@@maninthemask6275Thats one side of it, but considering that any punishment/"justice " inflicted on someone is an infringement of their agency, vigilantism can be seen as a violation of the social contract. We have laws so that we can dispense the most judgment, while infringing on the fewest freedoms of a given society. Vigilantism is a unilateral rejection of that social contract, and is unethical in theory and in practice. To sum it up using murder as a given crime: Killing is wrong, and killers deserve to die, but does a society have the right to kill them, or is that in of itself unethical, immoral, and hypocritical? I've had this theory that most people don't actually care about predators. Everyone always says 'protect the kids' but when those kids who get hurt grow up and show symptoms of childhood abuse people turn on them, it happened to me and when you look at how the public treats child celebrities who ended up becoming messed up because of childhood abuse it really paints a dark picture. One thing people DO care about is being able to abuse people, whether it's through words and shame tactics or physical abuse people love finding ways that they can get away with it. I am convinced most of these people don't actually care about the kids and just want someone to abuse and beat down on and not face social repercussions and pedos are one of the few demographics that people want to see suffer so it just ends up aligning for them. I would like to see these people try and support those who are already victims but that also doesn't get views because the reality and repercussions of this situation would make depressing content. I am just sick of people acting like the kids only matter before they have been abused and after it's like we are dirty and useless and people just want to avert their gaze from us when we act out.

Ask any women and they will tell you they get dozens of messages of older men when they were underage.
