There isn't that much rust - replacing the flares takes care of a lot of it. . You basically need to do about 20 years of normal maintenance before it goes down the road. Replace brakes, tires, drop the fuel tank and lines. 90% of the work needed does not require a $100 an hour mechanic, just someone with a little basic automotive knowledge and a willingness to get their hands dirty. Once the packrat nests are cleaned out and some of the basic repairs done then you bring it in for the headgaskets (or do it your self) or what ever it was that caused the Jeep to be parked in the first place. I'd be all over the Jeep for $350. My neighbor had an old Dodge 2 ton grain truck that the pack rats filled the engine bay like that every year - every fall he scooped it out with his hands then a garden hose to get the rest of the flammable out of the engine bay. If the truck was lucky he'd change the oil but usually he just drove it. He only went to the garden hose after he caught it on fire a couple times.

Judging from the exterior rust, I'd bet the floor boards are totally gone. I had the distinct displeasure of doing floorboard repair on a 76 Cherokee in 1982. The "design" on the floor was to put moisture trapping fiber over the metal and under a rubberized wall to wall floor mat. The PERFECT way to make something rust.

The axles are wide track Dana 44s from the pick-up, they could be good money too. Wonder what v-8 it has, if it's a 401 or a 390 might be a good core for a hot rodder.

When I pulled my 1961 Austin Healey out of the barn which I had stored it for about 20+ years, it was very similar to that. Engine bay completely filled with animal nests as well as carcasses. In total after cleaning out the engine compartment by hand, there was an additional 9-10 shop vacs full of poop. In retrospect I wish I never had put it in the barn which I thought was “safe“. It’s been a slow process rebuilding everything including a frame swap with transferring the existing monocoque structure to the new frame. But it will be worth every penny when I’m finished.

Chevy S10's, Ford Rangers, Jeep Cherokee's. No wonder they're so valuable anymore

years ago we found a 1977 Lincoln in the same shape. it took 3 days to get it to start but the engine was still good and wasnt locked up. we spent what felt like an entire 8 hours with big gloves on pulling all that nest out from under the hood. we pulled a 77 marquis up next to it to use as a guide and just started running new wires.. the engine was strong but the transmission was stuck in reverse had to be replaced. its really fun to work on them in that shape.

Right to repair has nothing to do with the business they're doing right now but going forward guaranteeing right to repair and ensuring by writ of law that people own the things they own would mean that the business they're doing now would still exist 30 to 60 years into the future. If write to repair isn't passed it'll mean that their business would cease to exist or maybe would still exist but they'd be dealing in hacked tractors that have had the warranties expire and have been sold and resold til someone says "yeah, I can jailbreak this".

Reminds me of a Perfectly fine Pontiac Ventura my uncle inherited. Ran and drove very well. No rust and all original. He parked it next to his barn. I watched him drive and park it there in the late 80’s.

The Swedish air force use to have those, the J20 pickup or something similar and they somehow got the mad idea to convert them from diesel to gasoline (despite diesel being much more useful in the air force) and ended up with about 6 MPG with rather small fuel tanks and the trucks became a laughingstock among military vehicles..
