@@darthtyranus7683 the Liberty and Compass are not Jeeps to me. The old XJ Cherokees and Grand Cherokees from 1988 to 1998 are what I consider real Jeeps. Had a few in that range... two were the bulletproof 4.0 I6 auto in the 96 Grand Cherokee with Selectrac and manual in the regular Cherokee. Had a 98 with the 5.2L as well. They were tanks and never left me stranded. The gf still drives the 96 Grand Cherokee, she loves it. Thing has 320k km on it and runs like new. I owned a 1976 J10 with a 360 motor. I installed a holley 650 double pumper on mine after I went through it. Dual exhaust and a mild mid range cam for pulling. I pulled a camper with it up into and through the mountains and also pulled a horse trl. with it. This was in the 80's and that truck was my pride and joy. I even had a louvered hood and tail gate to make it pretty and to let the heat out of it from the engine. I totaled it out one evening on the way home during a blizzard. I was busting through 4 foot drifts on the way home on a gravel road to my farm. The wind was blowing and it was starting to get dark. Someone had gotten their truck stuck in the middle of the road in a drift and left it. The snow had blown over the truck and only the tailgate was sticking out. All I saw was F O R D sticking out of the snow bank and I hit him at 40 miles an hour. It pushed the front end of my truck in about 6 inches and cracked the radiator. I had to jack his truck p off of my bumper and drive out from under his rear bumper. I left a note in his truck and ran for home before I had no radiator coolant left in the engine. I could not walk the 1.5miles the rest of the way home or I would have froze to death. I ruined the motor by the time I got back home. I wanted to sit down in the snow bank and cry. I loved that truck and haven't owned one like it since. Now you put one just like it on a video , well almost like it. Thank you now I got to go looking again.

I owned a 1972 DJ-5B the supervisor's model of the AM General Jeep. It was a left hand drive (supervisor, delivery folks used a right hand to make deliveries easy). It was rugged. Light. NO FRILLS. It had a wiper and heater. There were about 20 wires under the dash, which was metal with a plastic piece bolted on top for the defroster vents. It had no flooring other than the sheetmetal. The sliding doors were convenient and allowed you to drive basically a covered motorcycle that has a seatbelt. A 232 cu in inline 6 was powerful in a vehicle with no interior and only two seats. Light, nimble, it could almost turn in a lane of traffic, having been designed to weave around to mailboxes with parked vehicles and other obstacles in mind. A fun vehicle that always got a lot of comments. Didn't have the boxed frame of the CJ5 but was able to be used off road. Quirky was its best quality!

My wife and I recently bought a 1980 Jeep J10 (with the step-side bed - *very* rare!), from a family friend. He'd decided to build an awesome off-road vehicle, so he took this thing and frame-off restored it, LS-swapped it, lifted it, put 37" tires on it, and then got into overlanding and decided to sell it, never having taken it off road. LOL. It really looks amazing -- it's painted that Toyota Army Green color you sometimes see on the new Tundra TRD Pro, except for the bed which is painted with black bed-liner. The seats inside came out of an older King Ranch Ford F-150 -- dark-brown leather really works well with the green paint. It only has a few more things needed to make it perfect -- we're absolutely going to install a Vintage Air A/C in it, because you just can't drive around in Georgia without A/C from April to October. And there's an issue with the speedo and one with the fuel-gauge that need to be worked out. But other than that, it's going to be an amazing off-road vehicle. We're taking it to JeepFest in Pickens County, GA, this Labor Day weekend (2022).

Everyone I've ever known that did it was strung out on pain pills by age 40-45 and had back, neck, hip and knee problems. Being a mechanic is hard to, I did that for 5 years before I went to construction. Residential plumbing with PVC and pex is OK if you can still crawl under houses, but doesn't pay as good. I've owned one Jeep about 25 years ago. It was a 1949 CJ 2A. My great uncle gave it to me. Not modified in any way, 134 cubic inch flat head engine, 6 volt system. It was his hunting Jeep, not repainted, or restored other than the mechanical issues that needed fixing, and turn signals so it could be licensed. I think it would go anywhere.

"I like it when customers say, here's a grand, let me know if you need more." Well, Weezard (Tyler's way of saying it!), if I had a Mechanic, or a shop for that matter, that I could rely on for my own projects, I would do that. But it's not the case. I don't have you. So, I'm stock watching my back, my wallet and my projects at all times, while searching for a new home with a garage. It also sorta ties back to your Mazdaspeed6 video and certified Mechanics. You just can't count on certifications anymore to pick a shop.

@@radiowave75 What are the reasons semis still use drum brakes? Drums are less expensive to produce. They have a slightly lower frequency of maintenance due to better corrosion resistance compared to disks. Built-in self-energizing effect requires less input force (such as hydraulic pressure) as you know trucks use air pressure, again cheap. Drum brake wheel cylinders are somewhat simpler to recondition compared to calipers used on disk brakes. It all adds up to MONEY!
@lashlarue7924
@lashlarue7924 3 жыл бұрын
@@garys9694 Also remember - semi’s weigh 80,000 lbs. Semi truck brakes generate MASSIVE amounts of heat. Big drums are better here - you’d need a huge rotor to get the same amount of heat sink capacity.

new Jeeps no better; previously had a 2014 Unlimited 3.6; under warranty elements of the front suspension almost fell off and then outside of warranty at under 50,000 miles the rear main oil seal failed; a transmission out job.... This on top of issues with a leaking roof and the traction control occasionally cutting off. Then there was the turning circle; it was so large that I believe in my market only a Rolls Royce Phantoms is bigger. Got rid off it (though somewhat miss it) and bought an Outback as I couldnt afford a decent Toyota Landcruiser
