NOTHING WRONG WITH wild honey pie. It's only a few seconds. It's a quirky little moment. If it was full length, that would be a bit much, but it's a nice little interlude between Obladi and Bungalow Bill.

To me Honey Pie is essential to the White Album adding yet another genre to the amazing smorgasbord that is that masterpiece. An example of British MUSICHALL. Added to the others of country, folk, heavy rock, musique actuelle, rhythm and blues, ska, blues, doo-whop, classical, nursery rhymes, lullabies and holiday anthems.

I actually don't think Wild Honey Pie is the worst. I do love it for its unexpected randomness and for Paul's attempts to experiment as the band was writing through separate ideas. I understand some say it's filler, but I never had an issue with it. I respect your pick, but mine would have to be Dig It from their Let It Be album. I know it was recorded through a jam, but I never liked it. lol.

Isn't "Ticket to Ride" the the intro track to the "A Taste of Honey" movie? Just imagine that song being written about Rita too gives me chills. I have a feeling that Paul and Rita hooked up somewhere during those Cavern days and mutually agreed to never mention it again.

No, A Taste of Honey came out in 1961, 4 years before Ticket to Ride.

It's an easy song to criticise but when you look at the fact the biggest band in the world released an eight minute long Avant Garde song and thus expose millions of people to a type of music they probably otherwise wouldn't have ever listened to.

Wow this comments section is seriously misguided. I personally disagree with “Wild Honey Pie” being the worst Beatles somg (og Honey Pie is worse for one thing) but I get it. There are a fair number of trivial Beatles songs and this is definitely one of them. But “You Know My Name”? They’re relaxed and being spontaneous, just trying to make each other laugh. The extended version on Anthology is even better for being longer. Try coming too it without any baggage - you’ve just shared a joint with friends when they say “We got really high the other night and recorded this stupid song…wanna hear it?” And hating on “Revolution 9” is beyond tired. There’s a certain similarity between all the people I’ve heard knock it over the years. Close minded bordering on anti-intellectual. “Revolution 9” is a serious thing and it was made with intention, just like all their best tracks. Are there really people who can listen to this thing, think it over and STILL have no idea what’s going on in it? Try harder folks, or at least don’t embarrass yourself by volunteering an opinion about something you’re clearly not understanding ✌️

Controversial, because I'd have "What's The New Mary Jane", "That Means A Lot" or "If You've Got Troubles" well before Wild Honey Pie as worst Beatles song ever. Mary Jane is Yoko-fuelled nonsense, and the other two are Paul at his most lazy.

Both Lennon and McCartney have provided unreliable explanations. I believe some of these are accidental (macca) and some deliberate (Lennon). John’s recollections are almost always BS eg. Jamming with Elvis

Great theory James. Paul in particular, and the band in general, were famously influenced by the Beach Boys (and vice versa), so there may have also been a bit of a connection from the Beach Boys' Wild Honey album, song, and its lyrics (about a girl) from the year before.

That's a great analysis, James, as always (except that Maxwell's Silver Hammer is by far the group's worst song,) BTW, back in the 90s I wrote and performed a sketch with R--- T--------- live on Radio Four! Wish I'd known this theory back then, I'd have asked her about it.

Robert Zimmerman (Bob Dylan) the same for me. Zimmermann can't sing. His lyrics and music are nursery rhyme level. People say he's 'profound'. The song 'Blowing in the wind' is just rubbish. 'How many roads must a man walk down before you call him a man?'. Well Zimmy has decided to call the person a man - so he's answered his own question. I'd just ask ol Zimster for his qualifying criteria. The rest of the lyrics are just random questions and answered by saying 'dunno'. Every song he ever did is the same chord progression, I can't even call it singing, the same Coldplay style generic lyrics. Yet he's revered as a God.
@TheConzo962 сағат бұрын
@intelligenceofacertainkind if you think Bob Dylan's lyrics are nursery rhyme level, then it leads me to believe you have only listened to Blowin' in the Wind. If you listen to any Dylan albums (especially anything from the albums Bringing it All Back Home, or Highway 61 Revisited), then you'll find your statement is incorrect. You might still not like the songs or Dylan, which is fair, but your appraisal of his lyrical ability is just wrong
@intelligenceofacertainkindСағат бұрын
@@TheConzo96I've listened to enough Zimmerman and heard enough of his fanboys blabbering on about how wonderful their God is - to know it's all a load of toss.

The problem nowadays is, you had to have grown up in the sixties. The Beatles were more than just a band. Anything they did was cool. I admit that a lot this type of stuff doesn't hold up anymore. It was fun at the time. When I see younger people commenting on the Beatles, I just think you don't know what you are talking about. Now Bowie,he was crap, and vastly over rated. Although I did enjoy, the laughing gnome.😂
