In 2024 NASCAR is going to start its season off with the clash in LA. and the terrible races on display in 2020 and 2019 at daytona are a large reason why.But when it comes to what worst clash is 2019 is often left out of the conversation.

The funniest part about all this is that entering this race, Jimmie Johnson had DNF'd in the Clash for 7 years in a row And he broke that streak in one of the most WTF ways ever in recent memory

I miss the clash at Daytona, but considering how the last two clashes went at Daytona oval, I see why we might never go back, I still can’t believe for 2020 clash a highlight was “Hamlin gets out of line” 🤦‍♂️.

I wouldn't have been able to guess these two because, as you said, they were forgettable. I forgot them both. This has refreshed my memory. 2019 was one of the worst Daytona 500 speedweeks I've seen. The Clash was not good. I don't remember if the qualifying races were any better. The truck race was bad, with a train all the way to the end with no attempts to make it a race. The Xfinity race was nearly a replay of the truck race. People riding in line all day, and no real attempts to race at the end. I was dreading the Daytona 500 after that, but I recall it being a lot better and salvaged the whole thing. I've never been a fan of the Clash at Daytona. Super speedway racing is not my favorite, and the big wreck happens too often. I don't want to see a ton of cars torn up at 200mph in an exhibition race.

I think you might be thinking of a different truck race because 2019 was the year they all lost their minds and only 9 trucks wound up finishing. It was still a train wreck that contributed to how bad the weekend was but definitely not because of it being a train race

@@EC35-80 You're right. I looked into it. I think I'm conflating a couple of other races. The 2018 Daytona truck race was largely a train at the end with little attempt to pass. And the 2019 Xfinity race was also similar. I think my issue with the 2019 truck race was that there was so much attrition that there weren't enough trucks left to really make it as interesting at the end due to the aero dependency. I likely found the truck race deflating, with the Xfinity race falling short as far as picking things up. Thanks for refreshing my memory on that.

seem I'm not sure if 2020 doesn't get the disrepute it gets without the 2019 clash being the 2019 clash., especially with 2020 also being kinda trainy for about as long as 2019's was. It's not unforeseeable to expect the 2019 to pan out somewhat similarly to the 2020 clash should it have gone green. Both overall are very fatiguing to watch.
