Literally all they had to do to make the frigid outskirts infinitely better was put a bonfire in front of the boss gate. I actually would have thought the blizzard was kinda cool if I only had to do it once, and Lud and Zallen would have been ten times easier if I wasn't completely mentally exhausted and panicking at the thought of doing the runback again. Of all the places in the entire fromsoft library that have awful runbacks, that is the one that needed a checkpoint more than every other area combined
@toxicinferno8 күн бұрын
Lud and Zallen is the only boss fight in the series (except Sekiro, which I have yet to play) that I have never beaten. And not because they're particularly difficult (I got close a few times) but because that runback was so painful that I knew it was close to destroying my entire love for the game. You're completely right; considering how liberally they sprinkled bonfires throughout some areas of Dark Souls 3, it's a shame there wasn't one just outside the arena.

I feel like with Sekiro it has to be the Headless Ape duo. Beating the headless ape on a first playthrough without knowing that you have to fight it AGAIN but as a gank fight that doesn't work with the ways the bosses are designed is just so annoying. Once I figured out you could skip it by going to Ashina depths first, I've made sure to do so every time. But the second Juzuo fight is a close second
@formless_devАй бұрын
Double Ape is absolutely the worst part of the game, although once you figure out that you can pretty reliably just spam firecrackers on the second one asap it's not horrible. Mortal draw deals with them pretty easily too. I've always just used puppeteer on the ninja in the second juzou fight, there's literally no reason not to. I'm pretty sure that's what they intended since the "second strong enemy in the boss fight that you can very easily use ninjutsu on" design shows up multiple times.
@Ghorda9Ай бұрын
you can just use mortal draw to kill the female quickly, also you can lure Juzou through the hallway and just fight him near the water without having to deal with any of the extras save for the two in the building.
@popi-7364Ай бұрын
I don't really agree, they have really less hp in the duo than the ape in solo and it's quite passive too, if you're a bit patient you can just turn get away from them and wait for the female to come to you, parry the male attacks eventually which is easy and use firecrackers if necessary, they are really not difficult and actually in NG+ they are way easier than the solo ape because of its absurd life bar

The Frigid Outskirts is the way it is because it is intended to be played as a co-op area. Same thing with the Gank Squad and the Iron Passage from the other dlcs. There are these statue formations at the beginning of both the dlc area and the co-op areas specifically that facilitate summoning of extra players to run through the area. If anything my major complaint is so many souls likes learned nothing from it. The last 1/3 or so many games that pretend to be souls hard (especially in the metroidvania genre) have these late game areas where each enemy is a fucking chore. It’s just more efficient to run past them and bonfire hop. So I suppose that are truer to the name “souls like” at that moment than any other😏. That being said, I actually like the design of LI and ToG on the outside. It looks cool. I just find it’s not worth dealing with and so it’s more efficient to run through it. But that last half has Kiln of the First Flame which is such a bleak and cool final area that I can’t help but love it.

DS3 is kinda the opposite of DS1 for me, where I don't really like the majority of the first half of the game all that much. I still have fun in the first half, but it's not until I get to Pontiff where I think "Oh yeah, this is where the fun begins." And it's all because of 3 things: Undead Settlement, Farron Keep, & the Catacombs of Carthus. I think it's because of the color palettes for all 3 of them. Going from a very grey area, to a very gross swamp, to a very dark (and annoying) grave is always what turns me off whenever I replay the game. I never explore these areas either. I always run through them just go I can get to Irithyll, THEN I start exploring. Weirdly enough, I don't mind the Cathedral of the Deep all that much since exploring the Cathedral is fun in its own right, and it houses the beginning of the DLC (Which has my absolute favorite fight in Soulsborne: Sister Friede). Farron Keep does have one good thing about it, and that's the Abyss Watchers.

Bloodborne for me is the disappointment of One Reborn and Micolash. Paarl, Logarius, Amygdala and Ebreietas are so much better bosses than two straight main game bosses, but at least Wetnurse, Gehrman and Moon Presence are both well designed and fun, even if the DLC makes the last two kinda trivial. The only change I'd want in a remaster is something like bonfire aesthetics for the latterns, both to refighr bosses but also to scale up the final bosses to DLC, it would make that final guantlet just as crazy as Elden Ring's.

I just wanna give a short opinion on DS3 cause my head ignores all the “bad” aspects about the game and I would be interested in your perspective. For me that game is perfection: My opinion may be very unobjective but I honestly love every single area of the game. There were no moments where I was frustrated or bored except maybe Undead Settlement. But even that area was, in retrospective, bearable cause you had the first encounter with Siegward and the demon which was very intimidating at that stage of the game and therefore a little event for me plus you had to fight the Irithyll Knight which I accidentally cheesed cause I ran away in shock and he fell down the elevator hole lol. PS: Unpopular opinion but I find the Irithyll Knights throughout the game harder than some bosses like Sulyvahn, Aldrich, Dragonslayer Armor or the Abyss Watchers. I died to them more often than to Sulyvahn, Aldrich and Oceiros combined, no sh*t💀😭🤣 Besides that I enjoyed every single moment of the game.. something about the atmosphere of DS3 that is magical. I would be interested in y’all opinion on DS3 cause I obviously see through rose-colored glasses here. Also sorry for my mediocre English. It’s not my first language.

Frigid outskirts wouldn't be as bad if they simply just put a bonfire next to the boss fight. Although I agree, I think the Black Gulch should be the chosen one for a couple of reasons. 1-is not optional (frigid outskirts is, so you can just avoid it and save yourself the pain unlike Black Gulch) 2-The bonfire next to the boss arena is hidden behind a stone statue (that you need a rare resource to "break") 3-The NPC invasions (and the 1743 spitting statues) But Frigid Outskirts? Yeah, fuck that place!

Trying to remember the worst moments, hmmm… In DS1 (Remastered) it was the realization that weapon level is also a factor in invasions which it didn’t use to be. Yeah, that was unfair but it was also… Very funny. Not that I meticulously prepared a low level character that got almost all the way through the game or anything and unsuccessfully tried to invade for about an hour. Cough. In DS2 there really isn’t a particular moment I could point to. There are many times when I just felt tired because I‘m not good at it and don’t like it as much as the other games. Hmmm, maybe the first time I beat Nashandra. A real „That’s it, huh“ moment. The game as a whole grew on me and now my biggest critique would be that combat feels very unsnappy. DS3 is now my favorite of the Souls games to play so there are no bad moments to speak of. (Except for that cheesy second phase of the Soul of Cinder when they rehashed the Gwyn theme. Just kidding. The real worst moment was probably one of the many times the Swamp Angel got me before I figured out how to kill them.) In Sekiro it was the disappointment in myself when I had to look up what to do with the old lady telling me something about fruit. I really thought that I could get through From’s most straightforward game on my own. To my credit, it really wasn’t that intuitive after all. Elden Ring… Due to recency bias I‘ll say fighting the Machine Gun Mausoleum Knight. First things I did in the DLC: Enjoy the banger atmosphere, get my shins kicked in by a Curseblade with erratic moves I couldn’t figure out, move on to Wicker Man, get oneshot, shortly after find the Mausoleum, find one of the most unfun bosses ever (Poise NPCs, hate em), give up playing the DLC… For about two weeks. I really like it now (Except for Curseblades, Wicker Men and Mausoleum Knights)!

IDK I think Frigid Outskirts is kinda cool. I understand why it's always everyone's least favorite DS2 area but I think it's kind of exciting. The long runback just adds to the high stakes and feeling of danger. Bottom line tho is that it's a completely optional side area of an optional DLC and extremely far removed from the main game, so you can totally skip it without any shame. I freaking love the dukes archive! I hate the channelers there, sure, but being annoyed by one particular enemy isn't enough for me to hate the entire area. I think the moving staircases are a bit confusing on the first try but that kind of makes them more fun for me because it feels like a little puzzle. The library setting is scenic as hell and has some of my personal favorite world building in regards to Seaths search for immortality and discovering sorceries in the process, and maybe I just love a scene with tension, but I actually really enjoy the prison break sequence quite a bit. I tend to enjoy scenes in the souls games that feel like actual battles(Radagon bossfight using all those summons feels very epic I feel more people should embrace, the battle with the Ivory King and his Eleum Loyce Knights battling alongside you, and the cutscene where you and Seigward confront Yhorm together are some of my personal favorites.) and the prison break sequence has a bit of stakes to it. Just go into Seaths arena with a Rare ring of sacrifice or make sure you have a purging stone on you and the curse isn't even that bad, at least not at this point in the game, or in New Game+.

Bloodborne; Having to sink hours into farming trash mobs for blood vials just so i can be allowed to attempt a boss, and do content i actually like doing. This forced farm for "boss tickets" ruined the game for me so hard its the only fromsoft game ive temporarily quit, and the only fromsoft game i have ZERO desire to EVER replay again, because this braindead design decision makes it simply straight up not a fun game to play.

Am I the only one who who hates irithyl - Anor londo? Getting to pontiff is just so boring and Anor londo is just so empty. The only exceptions is the bosses and the pvp in those areas
@rubythorns2349Ай бұрын
I hate it too. If I can get past it, then I can finish a run no problem. But if I'm not in a super pumped mood, that section of the game makes me both bored and frustrated and has a serious chance of killing my momentum.

Mountain Tops and Consecrated Snowfields r the worst areas in the game. Outside of the human albinaurics in the snowfields and the fire monks (Which make sense lore wise), there isn't a single unique enemy in either area. It's like they ran out of time and just copy pasted enemies from every other area into them. Like y the hell r Caelid enemies in the mountain tops? They don't fit at all.

My own list of worst moments DeS: run back to the old hero DS1: either all of Lost Izalith or the parts of Anor Londo that are tedious DS2: Frigid Outskirts Bloodborne: (might be unpopular) but I hate fighting Amygdala, also the spider room DS3: Spear of the Church, purely for killing the flow of amazing bosses that surround it. Sekiro: any of the monkey encounters that aren’t Guardian Ape Elden Ring: either going through the Haligtree area, or Commander Gaius

Gaius ain't THAT bad

Dark souls 3 is one of my all time favorite games, but farron keep is the single worst area ever created in video games.
@zanesy6250Ай бұрын
Ds1 second half is boring because each area after anor londo becomes very linear compared to the very interconnected first half. As soon as you have the lordvessel the magic is gone.

Learn to stealth kill the lone shadow with Gachin bro, then juzo will be a joke of a fight. Its definitely not the worst part in sekiro, headless ape is worst

the worst part of elden ring is having to do the recycled dungeons to get important stuff
@Ghorda9Ай бұрын
except you don't need all the "important stuff" and just focus on your build. Also the best stuff aren't in caves or catacombs
@gragalakaisel1477Ай бұрын
for the sekiro one. I think that's a problem with every souls game. specially on elden ring where the difficulty of a boss fight relies on the fact that you have to fight multiple enemies. like where is the boss fight here? lol. it's just ganking it takes away the immersion because you have to play the game as if it's actually the game and use the fact that it is still a game and you can break the AI of the enemies by playing like a dumbass yourself running around baiting melee enemies then baiting attacks running past them just to kill the long range.
