Post Thrawn Trilogy, Pre-Disney Star Wars was absolutely insane with what everyone was trying. I love it.

That’s not really true though. The Republic, KOTOR, and Legacy runs are fantastic. Sal just tends to pick crazier stories.
@Depthcharge2030 Жыл бұрын
@@DanV900 Yes. It was absolutely insane with what EVERYONE was trying during that period. Ostrander alone went the extra mile throughout everything he wrote.
@DanV900 Жыл бұрын
@@Depthcharge2030 It really wasn’t where you are generalizing. The Thrawn Trilogy was great, but that’s over 20 years of stories. Dark Empire came out at the same time as the Thrawn Trilogy. The NJO series was controversial and you had occasional crazy stories like Death Troopers, but the current comics and stories are much more consistently insane. Luke was essentially possessed by a vampire in Aaron’s run along with other awful crap. The lightsaber crystals are now mood rings. The current Vader series set between ESB and ROTJ has Vader meet Sabe and still pine over Padme while bending over backwards to link up with TROS. The Kylo Ren series revealed that the Jedi Temple was burned by Force lightning from the sky and Snoke had hair. Filoni introduced the idiotic World Between Worlds and teleporting space whales. Ostrander wasn’t going the extra mile when you had writers like him, Matthew Stover, John Jackson Miller, and James Luceno. You have the 2 great Han Solo trilogies and so on. Kevin J. Anderson had a character walk on lava which was ridiculous, but the insane stuff just stood out more since it was dumb. Compare the Disney stories since they started in 2015 with the last 8 years and the first 8 years of the EU. There’s a lot more insane material.
@Ashguy733 Жыл бұрын

@@DanV900 He doesn't mention it on Off the Rack and elsewhere. Just because he hasn't seen it, or doesn't seem interested in it, doesn't mean he won't eventually. Whoa, wait a minute. If _Ghost Prison_ is the same story I'm thinking of, it was really cool. Is that the one about the ruthless young empire officer who walks all over everyone he can to get promoted all the way to moff? If so, the appeal of that one is seeing all the empire officers stabbing each other in the back to try to climb the ladder.
@DanV900 Жыл бұрын
No, it’s not. The officer who is the main character doesn’t do any of that and gets screwed over where he then follows Vader.
@architeuthis3476 Жыл бұрын
@@DanV900 Hmmm. Well, the one I'm thinking of does end with the lead character getting screwed over by Vader (like I said, the Empire is super cut-throat), but maybe that's not the one I'm thinking of. Any idea which _Star Wars_ comic I might be thinking of?
@DanV900 Жыл бұрын
@@architeuthis3476 That is how Ghost Prison ends, but Tohm was the one being ridiculed and taken advantage of by his fellow cadets due to missing an arm and his burned face. Ghost Prison’s antagonists are led by a man who poisoned Palpatine and wanted revenge for so many cadets being sent to their deaths. Tohm doesn’t become confident until he works with Vader where he learns to be more cut throat at the end, but Palpatine praising him was his downfall.
@architeuthis3476 Жыл бұрын
@@DanV900 Clearly its been a long time since I read it and my memory might be cooler than the story actually is. I mostly just remember one guy screwing over everyone to get to the top, but he fails to realize that, once he finally gets to the top, Vader still views him as disposable.
