You know what else is toxic as hell? Assuming people are just “fishing for compliments” when body dismorphia and anorexia are very real problems people deal with every day. So many people look in the mirror and see “problems” with their bodies that others don’t. My husband is the worst to watch movies with. He's the one that asks a million questions even tho we're both watching it together for the first time. Me, on the other hand, I've caught myself trying to say the lines with the actors and mostly getting it wrong..... 😬 So dumb and where did I even pick that up?! 😅

Please be kind to your husband. As one who is also eternally confused and feeling like I just missed 5 minutes of plot, I can relate so much. 😂

the 'not like other girls' thing is so weird, because its super cringe but at the same time, women want to fight to be unique because the perceived female culture is so set in stone. Like we are assumed to wear makeup, watch only romance tv shows and silver linings playbook, and own 50 pairs of shoes etc.. but they're such dumb and insulting stereotypes that its hard to not want to say 'no, im not a part of that actually lol'. i think its really a matter of how girls say it thats cringe

This is what makes it interesting to study. In many ways it’s actually reinforcing gender norms by implying there’s something wrong with how the “other girls” are. That they are somehow less than those girls who do hang out with and do more “guy” things, That the only way a girl can be “better” than others is to be as “ungirly” as possible because the “guy” things are the better things. Is it coincidence that it’s fine for a girl to say they’re “not like other girls” because they do more “guy” things, but it’s still frowned upon for a guy to say they’re “not like other guys” because they like doing “girly” things like getting a pedicure or massage or wearing dresses? I don’t think it is. This whole thing just shows that even girls who want to claim the “not like other girls” label put greater value on “guy” things. It’s toxic tbh. Wear dresses or read books or totally nerd out. That’s fine. Once you (not YOU you, but the proverbial “you”) start saying you’re “not like other girls,” you’re putting them down to make yourself feel better and you do that using precisely the gender norms you’re trying to blur. Plus you’re treating them like a monolithic group and they aren’t.

As humans, we know no one’s perfect, so with my chest, I’m owning up to the fact that I’m a one downer and the skinny girl who’s “fat” 😂😂😭 I’m gonna work on that. Thank you. 💞❤️

I was the "fat" skinny girl in high school. To be fair, I was genuinely insecure about my weight because my family made me feel like I wasn't gaining too much weight. But I cringe when I remember it because I would complain about how "fat" I was to some friends who weighed the same or more than me (like not obese but a little more overweight than I was).

Don’t you hate it when people would ask you about something that requires steps; and whenever you explain them in the simplest, easiest way, they end up not following through them and complain: “No one’s helping me”
