Fun fact, if you can't sleep, even just closing your eyes and resting provides the same but just lower levels of the benefits of sleeping. Knowing this has made a huge impact on my sleep because I'm less stressed about not being able to fall asleep since I'm benefiting from the rest (which then helps me fall asleep)

True! They should teach this info in health class in all schools! It has to do with putting the body into a parasympathetic nervous system state. That state is what allows the body to relax and heal.

Sometimes I even feel better after just resting deeply than I do after sleeping, because my breathing often sucks in my sleep. In the state between alert and sleep, my body is at its most relaxed.

Maybe it was the farmers who are to blame. The world used to have a lot more of them. Or maybe it's partly because people who own big businesses are usually intense Type A personalities who want to be doing things all the time, combined with all the parents because most kids naturally wake up with the sun or even EARLIER. Kids are the true psychos. Most are so excited they cannot wait to start the day. I'm lucky because my kids like to sleep in, but when they're baby-toddler age "sleeping in" is still at barely past dawn. Sleeping till 8 or 9 starts older. So I understand the pain of people whose kids are waking up early their entire childhood. I get why they want to get their kids out to childcare at 8 and get the day started so they can be done a few hours before dark. Imagine waking up at 5 every day with your kid, or 4:30 so you can have some time alone, and then being at work from 11am-7pm? Heck no. I wonder though, if it would work to have businesses open longer and have the 1st shift and the 2nd shift. I mean they already do that in retail. Hmmmm....

Yes, yes, YES! I am a person with a strongly pronounced natural night rythm. And we're like at least 25% population, in any town, city, or country in the world. The statistics exist. It's about time new laws get passed and all business and all schools and all hospitals passed on the 24 hour rythm, so the friggin entire ONE QUARTER OF THE WORLD's population can take pride in working a demanding and useful job and in being useful to society. This way a lot of us turn to crime and drugs at a young age (not me obviously, but I've seen many talented friends ruin themselves like this) when they see there's literally nothing for them to do at the time of day when their energy and focus are at their strongest. I'm a freelance translator, and I'm kinda lucky, but I feel so isolated working alone at night. When I know there are enough of us to create a Translation Services Agency that would work at night, and enough night owl clients to call us at 1am, I feel so powerless and frustrated... I'm not talking about introducing more slow night shifts where there are underqualified employees basically just guarding the place "in case", in hospitals etc. I'm talking real, actual, exact same service in banks, hospitals, public transportation, University, Theater, culture institutions, stock market, shops, farmers' open market, all kinds of offices, everything. We would all give our best and live our potential to the fullest. And we would finally stop living our lives in unnecessary, undeserved, perpetual feeling of guilt and inadequacy.

I didn't go to sleep until 1:30 last night. I went to school just fine, though. I could probably stay up until 5, sleep 2 hours, and still be able to operate.

I am: White dad; Anywhere, anytime; The Bragger; The Snorer; The Napper; The Druggie; The Insomniac; The Enraged Insomniac; The Giggler. I think I may have sleep issues.

3:54 I've actually done this before. All Hobbit and LoTR movies, extended, in 24 hours. Didn't get a wink of sleep.

I'm the druggie, insomniac, who sleeps super unpredictably. Also sing and laugh in my sleep. And have woken myself up doing those things.

I laughed so hard at the sleepwalker! 😂 I’m the perfectionist, and unfortunately, lately there’s been some insomniac thrown in there.

I should be sleeping, but I'm watching this and laughing instead. Does that answer your question? 😁

I'm definitely the insomniac, but when I do fall asleep, apparently I wake up to take a quick drink of water. I now have to keep a full water bottle next to my bed or I'll wake up fully and be unable to fall back asleep until I get a drink. I WAS FINALLY ASLEEP, DAMN IT.

I laughed too hard at this. I’m definitely a combination of the bragger and insomniac. It’s been so long since I’ve been able to sleep for any extended period of time that even when I get the opportunity, my body still wakes me up after 6 hours.

I’m the Insomniac type. I go to bed thinking, I have 8 hours until I have to get up. Maybe I can sleep somewhere in between that time. I’ll take like 2 hours to fall asleep and then wake up like 20 times until it’s time to get up.

The first one resonates with me deeply! I HATE being so high maintenance when it comes to sleep. Everything has to be perfect…and I STILL can’t sleep! I have to have a fan on, to drown out any noises (I’m a light sleeper). The sheets have to be a certain thread count. My pillows have to lay a certain way. The temperature in the house has to be 68 degrees. The list goes on. I f*caking hate it about myself. My body rejects everything.

I’m definitely the “anywhere anytime” guy. I often fall asleep sitting on the couch, often in my clothes, and I do have several alarms set. Sometimes even those don’t even wake me up.

wow this video is money! spot on. do u have a Phd in psychology? Sadly I am the perfectionist, druggie... and less insomniac now since switching from pharmeceuticals to natural sleep aids

I am the sleep talker, sleep walker, perfectionist. I would be the insomniac if I didn’t exhaust myself with gymnastics, working out, work and getting up at 5:30 for school. I only get a maximum of 8 hours of sleep and that’s when I don’t have homework 😃👍🏻😭
