So what other Honda sucks more than this one? I used to work at a Toyota dealer right next to a Honda dealer (same company) and the Honda guys I knew hated them. They were pissed about the transmissions and already complained about the run flat tires and the machinery to replace them. It's really the only vehicle they bitched about. But as a Toyota tech, we'd get them as used cars, trade ins and women so high on pills they didn't realize they were at the Toyota dealer next door. They were always a hassle what with the tires and the special machinery.

He's living too far in the past. These new Odysseys are rated very well, above the Sienna, across almost all reviews I've seen. It's kind of funny he's choosing a CVT hybrid over the V6 real 10 speed transmission... neither of which is typical of Scotty's recommendations.

I owned a 2003 Odyssey that blew a head gasket at 350,000 miles. Up to then it didn’t use oil and the transmission was fine. The next one ran with no problems to 305,000 miles. Then I thought the transmission went (watching Scotty), but turned out it just lost fluid through a rusty transmission cooler line. I’m on my third Odyssey now; 268,000 miles runs with no problem. Just drove it 2,000 miles from Michigan to Phoenix. I installed the VCM - Muzzler at 200,000. Now it uses no oil anymore, no vibration from running on 3 cylinders, no worry about fouling spark plugs.

It was more the earlier model years and generations, 1999-2005 especially, and some 2006-2011. The cam issue during that time was mostly due to the J35 engine that consumed a little oil, but people never check their oil and run over 10k mile OCI’s and ran that engine hard carrying lots of weight low on oil and slowly over time even a Honda or Toyota with their VTEC/VVTi will start to fall apart. I’m not saying they don’t have their issues but it’s also people’s stupidity.

My wife 2013 Honda Pilot suv with a V6 front wheel drive the engine just started with problems last month this year and started by hesitating and Honda said it was the injector problem but she was driving it and it got worse so then she took it to a local honest mechanic shop for another diagnostic and then they found the problem was with the pistons ring seals leaking oil in the cylinder and the recall to repair the engine had ended it was very discouraging that a Honda vehicle had that problem and the dealer or someone send a notification about the recall and the engine was $7,000 and not available in the us…so she end up returning the Pilot and got a Honda Civic so far is doing its job,a least she is saving $150 dollars a month on fuel…but really we live from check to check and then this happens 😢

100% wrong. You're not considering how well the consumer was maintaining the vehicle. Those vans have always had great motors in them. The vast majority of them shared the same platform as the accord. Which is a fantastic motor. All the way from the F series, to what it has now.

We have a 2003 Odyssey, and yup, transmission failure, and lots and lots of other small (but expensive problems), such as: steering wheel lock set failure, rear window motor failures, seat belt failures, spark plugs working loose and stripping heads, struts and rear shock failures, 5 or 6 recalls, power steering leaks at the pump O'Ring, sliding door roller assembly failures, and many, many more. As long as you can repair yourself, and drive them gently, they are great vans, but ours has been a series of never-ending mechanical and design failures.

I had a 1995 Toyota Previa and the greatest weak spot was the supercharger. After 230,000 the suprcharger was leaking fluid which required a refill every oil change. The Toyota fluid was very expensive, but I found the GM supercharger fluid costs 1/4 as much. The only large ticket item needing replacement was one of two catalitic converter was at 250,000 miles.
