We didn't quite realise just how bad the weather was going to get in central Portugal, apparently this is the second or actually third time it's been unusually stormy and very wet! Regardless of storm aline and the heavy rain we do a few jobs around the farm and have a couple of nice walks to see what changes on the land with the season. At least the trees are getting watered and we find a nice watery surprise in the secret pathway :D.

You have to be careful they don’t eat too much fruit, my parents’ dogs always put on 2/3 kg during fig season! :-)

They needed to put on a few pounds anyway as they lost a bit of weight due to the summer heat. 2/3kg is a lot 🤦🏻‍♀️😅 the vets say our doggies are a good weight as they are now which is excellent 😃 we regularly weigh them and monitor it

Stunning landscape! That region is gorgeous even with rain, which I love it. Regarding the persimmons, I always eat the soft and red ones. They are excellent! Have a lovely weekend and thank you for the video!

We think so too 😃 but still a long list of things we’d love to do on the land. Yeah it’s great to see the farm turn green again and the water has been great for the trees. Nice work on the walls, gravel laying and trees in your vid 😎

Persimmon (dióspiro in Portuguese) is one of my favourite fruits. I only like the soft ones, that are sweeter and juicier.

Ha! Finally saw a good shot of the persimmons. They are in fact Fuyu, which means they can be eaten when firm as opposed to the more oblong shaped that have to wait til they are super soft. For that matter you might look up the types of persimmon that grow in Portugal. There you might find greater confidence in what you have there and when they are good to eat!
@jonnyandsamofficial
@jonnyandsamofficial 11 ай бұрын
Yes we believe they are fuyu too after looking them up due to the shape and they have a sweeter taste apparently - very nice! They are best to eat when soft in my opinion after doing my own test as I heard from a few different people about eating them hard or soft. My verdict is soft because it tastes better 😃 I’m sure there’s varying opinions but that’s mine

Watching you feed the dogs persimmons took me back to when my dogs use to eat my fallen mangoes. One of them stashed the mangoes behind our compost heap and waited till they fermented. It took a couple of days to realise he did not have a sore leg or was ill but was drunk every afternoon. The mushroom idea is brilliant try shitake, oyster, lions' mane and turkey tails. Once inoculated they can be harvested after 1-2 years and will produce for at least 7 years. Treat mint badly mow it walk on it mint loves not being overprotected. If the fig is a great producer wait until winter. Once it has lost all its leaves and is dormant take 2-3 good cuttings and pot in late spring plant out in prepared ground. Following from Australia

😅👌 your dog knew what he was doing! Getting pissed up on mangoes 🥭 haha! Trixie (the light coloured one) absolutely loves eating everything she can find on the floor she goes to all of the trees that she knows have bared fruit before 😅 checking on the floor. Nice! Thanks so much for your suggestion. I think we have some turkey tail growing out of some old wooden fencing. Yeah we’ve recently learnt about the mint being invasive hopefully we’ll get a tractor soon and cut it all back. Excellent I think we will do that with 2 trees that are good produced both are different varieties of fig. Awh thanks so much for your comment 😃

Worst weather? I'm sure your farm and Nature in general would beg to differ. 😉 Since the weather is going from extreme to extreme these days, my advice (although you probably already do that anyway 😄) is to check the IPMA site everyday for weather warnings and info about the atlantic storms that can affect mainland Portugal because due to its location, the Azores anti-cyclone is letting them all go through to mainland Europe. About the name of the storm: the "ali" in Aline should sound like the "ali" in Alice rather than the "ali" in align. 🙂 No news on the HDD yet?

“The worst weather on our farm in Portugal (that we’ve experienced)” didn’t quite have the same ring to it 😅 also apparently storm aline brought weather that was record breaking in the last 100 years from my research 🤔 Thanks for your suggestion I haven’t been looking at that website just normal weather apps, and the government are quite good at sending out text messages when it’s bad wind and rain recently. Thanks for my Portuguese lesson 🤓 The HD is currently in the Netherlands with its manufacturer who are trying to recover the data for us 🤞 hopefully we hear from them next week. Thanks for asking 😃

@@jonnyandsamofficial - Those text messages are from the Civil Protection (Protecção Civil in Portuguese), hence the name of the sender: ProCiv. I'm curious about one thing: did the messages come in Portuguese or in English? The IPMA is the national weather institute (IPMA stands for 'Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera') and their website also has the English language option. The phone weather apps' forecasts are always hit or miss, since they don't have access to the data from all the weather stations around the country or the years of knowledge about the weather behaviour in Portugal like the IPMA. Besides the weather, they also provide info about other subjects that might interest you, like agriculture, drought reports or rural fires. 🙂

Also get a hand on the mint, it will take over the whole field, you should try and contain it. For Asiatic hornets call the authorities, they will take care of it (GNR, Proteção Civil, Bombeiros do Fundão...). It is not advisable to deal with it yourselves...

hiya..i notice that you have several uk registered vehicles and you need to carefully plan your strategy going forward with these..uk registered vehicles are allowed in Portugal only for 6 months in ant 12 months period unless the matriculation process is underway and it is illegal for a Portuguese resident to drive a uk registered car unless it is in the matriculation process..when you become resident you are permitted to bring and register free of tax one vehicle that has to have been registered in your name in the uk for 6 months prior to your residency..there are various other requirements that must be met also and these are strictly applied...without the "tax free" import the cost of matriculating a UK vehicle usually make it an uneconomic exercise...please consider this matter..I was threatened with confiscation of my pick up and fined almost 800 euros for going beyond the 6 months..good luck with all your projects..
