You're a very generous guy Keith, you're doing all this work off your own back, with no profit in it for you. You could have quite easily sold a premade kit, with a large margin, and people would have still snapped it up. I'm no machinist, I've never turned anything on a lathe in my life, but I've been watching your videos for a few years now (you've replied to a couple of my comments) and it always amazes me the great community you have here. Congrats my friend!

Keith I have absolutely zero experience with the work you do. I am more of a computer/gamer person. I've been subscribed for a while and have watched your videos way before. I find it oddly relaxing, extremely entertaining and educational. I could never tire of watching this kind of work be done.

For all your time involved Keith, you're being more than very fair in the costing. This is altruism at its best. As so often, shipping is or can be the major headache, particularly if going to other than lower 48. Packing in a small flat rate seems awful fiddly and time-consuming - kudos on managing it. Plenty of tape and it should work.

You could have been born a Hawaiian, because you certainly embody the Spirit of Aloha. You give, and give, and give again, just like the local people of Hawaii do when you get out of Waikiki. Like the old saying goes, you'd "give the shirt off of your back" to help make the world a better place in the best way you know how, and if I wasn't laughing so hard as I rooted you on to see if you really could win that match of "Jenga", then you'd have brought a tear to my eye. I may never need to turn a shaft, who knows as I've only just begun, but I'm going to buy one just so I can have a piece of this historic campaign. Mahalo Nui Loa e' A Hui Ho Keith...Aloha, Chuck

Marcel Timmers Yes...yes we would, and you too Marcel, you always have such nice comments. That was like watching the Gandhi of Machinists granting his gifts of knowledge and labor to the world, followed by the Houdini of packing masters fitting all of those parts into the tiny box...I think if you used strapping tape with those fiberglass threads in them all the way around it would hold up, but he's already giving us the deal of the century, so I'd hate to ask him to have to do even the tiniest bit of additional work. It still was amazing to see all of that fit, and when he said "Jenga" I almost exploded, LOL! I'm hoping for the guys around the globe's sake that folks step up in each place of demand and can create the kits for each country or region. As long as they can insure the quality of the materials and parts it will really carry Keith's gesture far and wide. What a heck of a guy...I'm still blown away by the whole thing. Aloha...Chuck

FYI -- a small flat rate box will fit inside a flat rate envelope, and the envelope shipping is cheaper. Pack the parts in the small box, then reinforce it with some packing tape, then put the box inside a flat rate envelope. You need to kind of fold over the top corners before you fold over the flap (a little like gift wrapping a box), and then put a piece of packing tape across the flap for good measure. Doing this will bring your US priority mail cost down to $5.05 (if printed online).

Hi Keith, That is a great kit you are offering and that is a smokin' good deal. I am the machinist (plus whatever else needs done) at the welding and fab shop I work at and we stock all the materials needed for your kit, but I'm not sure I could get them that cheap at my cost lol. However, I believe living in Canada may be a bit of a drawback, considering the exchange rate and freight. If you're interested, I can workout what the Canadian price would be for the materials and add the same $20.00 (in Canadian $) charge for cutting and deburring, plus shipping via Canada Poste and offer your roller kit to your Canadian viewers, if there is interest here. As our shop carries all the steel in your kit, I can buy it in as large or as small of the quantities needed. I am already set up as a merchant through PayPal, so that would not be an issue either. Let me know if I can help, as I am sure you will probably have plenty of offers, but I would like to do something in return for all the education, inspiration and entertainment you provide all of us at no charge. Thank you for all your great videos and selfless efforts. Ian Little

Shrink wrap/vacuum bag the parts. That'll keep each kit together with a squirt of oil inside, and make folding the boxes much easier. You can get rolls of the bagging on ebay and I'm sure you could improvise the vacuum and/or hot crimp.

The wife and I were cheering you on while you were packing the small FR box. I said yes.....she is a pessimist. The box needs to be tested. We actually make sure it will survive by actually throwing the box from 5ft 5 or 6 times, throw it into the bed of the truck and ride it around town and a couple more throws. We also found that wrapping the box, or the contents if you can, with the Fiberglas reinforced shipping tape. Securing the small parts is most important. I would seal the box tubes with tape to keep the parts from migrating out. On another note, that's really cheap for the kits! If I did shafting I would certainly buy them. Thanks for what I call machinist Porn.

WAVETUBE84 They had a jig at RIMCO in Costa Mesa. You put the crank on it and they had a dial indicator that slided to every journal. In an instant, you would know the straightness, diameter, and if there was any taper in the crank. Your rollers could do the identical measurement, if you had a surface plate.

Matthew L You have to shop around in your local area, withing delivery distance and ask for quotes. you have to buy quantity to get breaks and the longer you do business with some suppliers you get some good deals and locking in sometimes let you save in the long run. Hi , ive purchased lead ingots for reloading, where the seller will cram up to 9 pounds of lead into a small flat rate box, hoping to keep costs down is a good thing.but, there is always a but. Usps is so rough on small heavy boxes that 7 out out ten times the box o lead came partially open with lead missing or hanging out. No amount of clear packing can prevent it. Its all about the uncaring gorillas at usps. It would be ashame to have even 1 part of the kit missing.you are a fair man but id send the kit a more secure way. Id pack in bubble wrap and tape and send it in a medium usps box or use ups. Ever try to get moneys back from usps for lost or stolen goods, its impossible, I know because I had an ebay store for 15 years. Do you and your buyer a favor send it a more secure way. Less pain and suffering for both parties. Great kit good luck with it

I meant for those needing 2 sets. 70lbs limit, but you would have an easier time getting them packed in the bigger box.
@AffordBindEquipment9 жыл бұрын
in my experience shipping over 10 pounds over the years in a small flat rate box, you definitely need to run tape all around the box. the biggest problem is at the other end with the poor post man. be prepared that the box will be dropped many times as the little box is hard to hold on to and being heavy, it will get banged up. Printing the labels online is the only way to go. and way cheaper. One nice thing about the small box is that you don't have to worry about lots of packing. At least you don't have to worry about the parts getting banged up in transit. I ship a 9 pound lead weight encased in a nice formica covered box and I had to switch to med. flat rate box because the small flat rate box was getting dropped and my product was getting damaged.

logik100 I agree that is way to low I would be embarrassed paying that amount. I also think Kieth is going to far going thru piece by piece stating the prices of each material I feel bad he shouldn't have to prove he is being fair he deserves the benefit of the doubt and even if he charged more than what some people may consider fair then they shouldn't request the part it is that simple. That may not be the case but all I know is his work, combined with his personal life and the effort it takes to run his youtube channel editing videos and answering comments etc. etc. he must be real busy. Good luck Kieth I hope you don't take my comment the wrong way I am just speaking my mind.

Keith, a few things. First, I can't believe that you got all that in the small box! Talk about squeezing 10 lbs. of manure in 5 lbs. bag! :) Second, it's too cheap. A fair price is to double you wholesale costs., then add the tax and shipping. Third, I seriously doubt that that package would make it to it's destination in one piece. If I was ordering this, I'd be happy to go with the medium flat rate box. This way, you could put the all parts in a heavy duty plastic bag, some peanut packing and it's guaranteed to get where it's going. Can you imagine the headaches you will have sending missing parts because the box broke? I think $50 - $60 bucks with shipping is a very fair price. Also, what about your design, isn't that worth something? Good Luck! Rich
