I completely understand the point. Most of us do that journey. I sold my 6.000€ full frame gear and went to minimalist. It’s not about gear, it’s about challenging ourselves. At some point in life we understand that materialistic things matter and money matters (of course) but those should be the tools to lead us to happiness and not happiness by itself. But some of us just understand the joy of driving a Fiat 127 after driving a Ferrari… modern world is cruel because humanity is drifting on modern standards like if everything is about gear: pixels, resolution, frames per second, brands… I found it amazing to slow the pace, return to aps-c, travel lighter… take time capturing a photo, enjoying the manual settings. Even if it is not the best photo, I enjoy challenging myself … I’m not taking photos for others, I’m taking photos for me. The final image is just a part of what the moment represented for me. And that’s what you call (I guess) to be out of the box… like everything else in life, I can’t love others if I do not love first myself… and that’s what paixonites me on photography, that’s the way I connect to myself. Doing at a fast pace and with top gear is turning the moment vulgar and frugal. I’m even getting to the point of turning to manual old lenses… I don’t know if I will end on film. Something I’m sure, it will come the time that even in professional photography, clients will prefer final work with traces of imperfections rather that tack sharp images that all look the same no matter the photographer or gear. Humans are like that, that’s why society is getting bigger. We are getting feed up of fast perfection consumption society. All is about money, perfection and gear. But that’s me just thinking loud, sorry for the long reflection. My rule today “just challenge yourself trough imperfections”

I completely agree with everything you said. As someone who has shot everything, experimented with everything in photography since the mid 70s. I have lately fallen into the G.A.S. world with all these great digital gear to "upgrade" my craft. I have noticed in the last five years that the magic and excitement has gotten muddy and each purchase I made was in hopes to bring that excitement back. It works.... for a couple months then I'm back where I was. So lately in the last week or so I have sat down with my heart and should and decided I need to start fresh, fresh as in getting rid of ALL that new-ish gear [and I have thousands of dollars worth]... I have and go back to basics. note: the X100T has been the one that has kept my head above water since 2015 and my go-to. I am selling off ALL my fuji gear, hanging on to all my Nikon film gear and lenses and a couple OG DSLRs for emergencies and getting out of the MegaPixel race and replacing it with a Nikon Df (16mp), D780 (24mp and the most modern body) and definitely replace my aging X100T with the X100V. That is all I will ever need going forward. Anything beyond that quality is honestly Dreaming at this point in my life. Make it simple people and just shoot!

I shoot for VOGUE, ELLE, Harper's BAZAAR, Numéro, etc... with X-T3's and X-T4's, I have 6 bodies (4 XT3"s and 2 XT4's) even though I have a couple of GFX 50s's MF as well. Over 60% of all of my pro work is Fujifilm X-T3 and X-T4's...all videos for the past 3 years are Fujifilm. Won a Silver Medal for one of them as well. I have 4 full-frame Nikons and 12 lenses sitting in a case that I haven't touched for over 2 years. Finally, what matters is the concept, theme, story, treatment, innovation, creativity, honesty, sincerity and novelty... I could cite many more important attributes than the gear you use.

@Alex Scarrow ... I started my photography journey / life in the late seventies, and have shot analogue on 35mm with Zenit, Nikon, Canon, Yashica .. I've shot 5x4 and 10x8 on Sinar ... I've shot 6x6 / 6x7 on Hasselblad, Mamiya, Pentax, Bronica ... I've shot Digital on full frame, APS-C, Micro 4 3rds, IR converted DSLRs, mirrorless and mobile devices .... There is no such thing as a favourite format or brand for me, and there probably never will be. I always have some form of imaging device on me (a Canon S95 and Samsung S20 FE in my jacket pocket at this moment in time) , and just love to take photographs when and however I can, and that's the fun of photography. PS: My fuji XA-1 and 18mm f2 is my version of the X100V , and it only cost £170 on Ebay 😉

This video hits home for me in more ways than one. Having done so much in the photography realm, I was bored, so I picked up film again. It was therapy, and developing my film at home was part of that therapy. A whole different box. A whole different way of looking at things - or not. I love what Fujifilm is creating, but I just can't move forward with a rig from them at the moment no matter how much I want to. No dinero. ;) Regardless, 10:15 made me think about all this. Discovery made. Subbed. I look forward to more of your work.

The only downside of this amazing X system is when the camera or lens fail and you have nothing but a paper weight. Happened to me twice with the 100s and 100f, that is why I ended up getting the X-E with a 27mm lens.

There are more versatile and far cheaper cameras than the X100V and with interchangeable lenses. Yet very few of them can literally fit in a pocket in addition to sharing the same internal engine as the flagship cameras of the Fujifilm X-Range. Why then do professionals that make their living out of photography enthuse about this deceptively simple camera? It might just be that the X100V inspires people to value the art of photography above the technology of photography.

Twitter for photographers - no way. Read their latest user agreement. You are not allowed to post images from public space, without a permission from everyone. Twitter killed street photography. It's hysterical. The x100v is for photographing your life and surroundings. Twitter is not the place for sharing it.... I have deleted my account, and know so many photographers who has done the same.

Fujifilm takes constructive critique seriously, i often said, i wanted to have the upper part section straight from left to right, not into all previous versions of the X100. With the X100V, finally Fujifilm did it right. Anyway, since the latest Iteration is way over my budget, i still enjoy shooting much my black limited original X100, and upgrade perhaps to the latest X100V into a couple years, at least, when the X100H (h for hex) or whatever named this 6th iteration would be named then...or with the 7th gen. then. :-) Perhaps Fujifilm would maybe bring the D-Pad back, that's what i'd love to see also, plus the Joystick usage, together.
@alexanderscarrow3 жыл бұрын
I couldn’t agree more, Fujifilm is heavily invested in their customer base and don’t mess around with features that are not necessary, And I’m glad to hear that you’re keeping a x100 series original, limited no less, out and about. I’m excited to see what the 6th and seventh gens bring!

The X100V is top of the line gear tbf. It's got the same insides as the flagship. It's easy to surprise ourselves when we come in with flawed assumptions to begin with. 😂 A step closer to enlightenment is good nonetheless. I recommend you try a Ricoh GR for a few months. Guarantee you'll try to work it in as a B cam to the R5, and then find out that your favourite shots are like 70/30 GR to R5. Happens to the best of us. ✌️

This is weird to watch from my perpective; an individual who can’t afford a x100v or the canon you’re shooting on. I do believe that the person behind the viewfinder is what matters more than the gear, but I feel like the theory is more applicable once you’ve had the experience of using higher end gear.
@ruhnet2 жыл бұрын
Canon 7s is a great camera. I had one, and took it overseas, but later sold it (bought a Canon 7 in its place). Has a great viewfinder. Another fun one (although less practical) is the Canon IVSB. 😄 I use it along with my Leica M3.
@chrishuang87633 жыл бұрын
Good photography needs a dedicated camera not a handphone like some people think it can but you don't need an expensive camera of a certain brand. I have been shooting film for 35 years and now I am using digital. The change from film to digital is a revolution making the process so much easier and cheaper. To be good in photography one need skill, experience and the ability to see what others don't. One need to have a creative eye not an expensive camera. However, sometimes a good lens helps to get a certain look or rendering. For me, most of the time, I just prefer the Oly TG4 for its versatility and capabilty. Sometime I just use a Micro4/3 like my GX9 and sometimes my Canon M6 Mk2. Most important, one must have the focal length to shoot a certain way.

@JJ_Photo3 жыл бұрын
What is wrong with the AF? And what did you expect with the film simulations? The AF is better than most of the other Fujis. On par with the Leica Q. The film simulations are nice and you can be creative. But in all most of it is done by tweaking the WB in camera. I mainly shoot raw though. The raw files are great to me. And the best thing about the V, is the form factor, weight and size. What is else out there that can beat this camera (for what it is)?
@gabedamien2 жыл бұрын
@@JJ_Photo I have an X100T and a Canon R5. I've played with many Fuji camera models in stores, including the X100V. Basically, the Canon AF systems blow Fuji out of the water; depending on lens, they're drastically faster, more accurate, have better subject detection and tracking, are more configurable, and smarter. Going from the R5 to the X100T, the AF is the most painful aspect of using my Fuji. But the Fuji AF is... well, good *enough*, for many styles of photography. And so much of using Fuji cameras is a joy, that I keep my Fuji even though I also have the Canon.
