I have a 2018. I got it used in 2019. It had 2371 miles on it. So the original owner did not like it, or it scared the bazeebers out of him. I will go with option 2. Today, I hit 57k miles. 13 Sets of tires later, I will tell you, it has been miles of smiles. I have had so much fun with this thing. You can cruise for hours. Your weight is on your butt, not your wrists, like a crotch rocket, and it corners so good. There is tons of torque coming out of the corners, enough to make a crotch rocket nervous. In a straight line, from a dig, it is hard to beat. It has no traction control, wheelie control, launch control, nothing but abs. It is just you, and the machine. You have to figure out how to get out of the hole, and not blow off the tire, unlike the modern crotch rocket, that uses computers to help you ride. My monster is not under my bed. It is in the garage. Waiting on me.

Definitely not 2009. 2009 was the first year of Gen2 (the 1700cc VMax). There were two anniversary Vmaxes. The 30 years VMax and the 60 years (?) Yamaha. Both "special editions" come with special special color, actually the 30 years Vmax is real carbon fibre all way round - not the scoobs though - and it comes with Akrapovic exhausts. Engine is untouched though.

I am the original and only owner of a 2009 VMAX. I bought it back when you had to pre-order one months in advance. I still have it. It still looks like it came right off the show room floor. All I do is change the oil. Its never needed any repairs. Mine is completely stock. The fit and finish is incredible. Everything is tight and there is not a trace of orange-peel in the paint. The exhaust note is amazing. I am 5'9" with a 30" inseam so sitting on the bike took some adjustment because I can't get both feet on the ground but I adjusted so now its not a problem. I also have to dismount in order to back it up because I can't get both feet on the ground. Once I'm moving I fit the bike perfectly. My only real complaint is, as you stated, the fuel tank capacity but it does provide a good excuse to get off of the bike every 100 miles or so which is fine with me. I've been riding since 1967 and have owned many bikes but this is the best one of all. I take exception to calling it a cruiser though. I don't really like cruisers and I wouldn't have bought the VMAX if it was one. Its actually just a naked bike with unique styling. It has standard-position controls and seating just like all bikes used to be before about 1985.

The VMAX1700 is the ultimate collector of speed. (and gas station receipts) It's nearly impossible to not smile when riding. You have to use equal amounts of power and nerve to make it go were you want it to go. A literal beast! P.S. The throttle lock is pretty much useless on the Max. Any throttle input, at all, simply adds speed. It is nearly impossible to find the minuscule throttle position that will maintain your speed without accelerating. Yes, it's that eager to go faster.

This or the Rocket 3 (2023)? Even though I can get the Vmax for literally half of the R3 I'm looking for the quickest, arm stretching experience possible; the giggle factor. Any input?
@shivamgupta14129 ай бұрын
Vmax for sure. Wins in power, hp per dollar, and reliability (even being discountinued). If you can, why not go for the original muscle bike, the one that started it all in the first place, albeit 2nd gen

When a bike is out of balance it could be your front tyre for sure but dont forget about the forks a lot of people dont realize you can get an imbalance in those as well.

Vmax sits in a special niche. It is not a sport bike. It is not really a "Cruiser". The only bikes that fit in with it are the likes of the Rocket 3 and Duval. They are not Nakeds, Standards, or Tourer, they are muscle bikes. The thrill of the acceleration. The smoking of the rear, and just lone wolf persona of it makes it stand tall.

My brother in law had what he thought was a fast motorcycle. A Harley. In 87 we had a demo V-Max, and I asked him to race me on it. All he said afterwards was let me ride it. I said ok, and let him ride it. He couldn't believe how fast it was.

I was in love with the V-Max for a while when they first came out. That was until I discovered the Boulevard C-109R a few years ago. It's "only" 120hp, but at 118ft/lb, it's up there with the V-Max in torque. I bought a 2010 109 about 6 weeks ago, and I love it so far. It has a few quirks like the linked braking system, and an extremely sensitive TBW system, but I'm adjusting to them. There's plenty of videos on the M-109R, but barely anything on the C-109R, and I'd be interested in hearing your views on it if you can get your hands on one.

there was a company that made an extended fuel tank for it, not sure if they still do, also there was a company that made a gas tank that goes in the typical gas tank spot, again not sure if they still make it. a Japanese company made a FAT rear tire kit that used a custom drive shaft to move it out farther to fit a really wide rear tire. the blacked out 2017 vmax is my dream bike, just wish I could afford one :(

Owned two of the 1st gens and took them to the V---MAX! But never seen anyone ride the 2nd gen as fast as it could go.

Great bikes, I had one here in the US years ago, sold it. I also had one when I lived in the UK for a couple years 25 years ago. You might not know that V-boost is illegal there, so unless you buy a "gray market" bike, you can't have one with V-boost there. Currently I have 2 Harleys, a classic Triumph, 2 Hondas, and a Yamaha. Why do so many need to comment on Harley and Harley riders when talking about other bikes? My main ride is a Harley with only about 120 HP and about 140 lb-ft of torque, if I had to keep only one, that would be it. Wait, that's more torque than the V-Max? Yup. By the way, from experience I can say that a new tire will not solve that handling quirk. For me the V-Max is fun like choppers are fun. I have built and ridden numerous choppers over the years. There are some people that live with such a bike and put a lot of miles on it but most don't. I used to be a daily chopper rider, but there is no way my back can handle a hardtail for so many hours anymore. If you do 20,000 miles a year, and you ride for decades, you tend to make different choices about what you ride. My first street bike was a Harley that I put together in my garage when I was 19 years old. 40 years later I watch KZbinrs talk about Harley riders crying. I don't get that actually, and I never have. One of the commenters said he likes making fun of Harley riders on the road, or something like that. How does someone live like that? I mean that figuratively, and perhaps literally. Typically that kind of behavior catches up with you, and I don't mean o imply anything about the Harley riders. Just in general, people that act like that tend to get hurt for it eventually. Anyway, fun video. Really funny to see you twist the throttle and giggle like a kid. I still do that on my Harley with 140 torque...and nobody cries about it.

The only thing this bike needs less is weight. Gorgeous, powerful and has decent reliability.

So, first thing to keep in mind when disassembling a vintage bike: do not cut/break/destroy parts unless you know that a replacement is available otherwise you may wait months for a hard to find replacement throttle cable... gotcha

Great post Spike. A few of these are in Guyana, 1st and 2nd gen models. Fast as fuck and they gets..."nuff respect"! Almost untouchable up to 140mph too even with my FireBlade. Keep up your great work bro.

I took mine to a King of the Dyno day at my local Harley shop and took home the crown. I destroyed the Harley whatever glide in 2nd place by over 51 horsepower lol. It had a nasty sounding 120R that can definitely get down and boogie but it's no match for the mighty VMAX.

@spitescorner better bike, in your opinion, the VMax or the Yamaha MT-01?
@spitescorner9 ай бұрын
They're pretty different, but I think I'd have to go Vmax if I'm looking for a cruiser. The MT01 is more of a naked bike.

I was looking for a second play bike (I have a built RAIDER S 2000cc with Dyno tune.) so I test drove the R1 and then tested the new V-max. To be honest, I didn’t think the V-max was all that.
