She may not understand how damaging it is yet. I was groomed by my friends brother. I was 16, he was 24. I ended up marrying him at 18. He cheated on me 2 and half years later with a 17 year old.... But I defended everything he did up to that point. I thought we were special, age didn't matter. But really once I started maturing and questioning things, he was done. Age gap relationships are not always bad - but your brain is still developing into your late 20s. I'm 30 now and I can see all those red flags so what the REAL problem is - what about the adults around me who let it happen? It's their fault as well as the perpetrator.

thats genuinely horrible im sorry to hear that and i hope the 17 year old managed to get away from him too, people like that will just keep on repeating the same shit for as long as they can get away with it it's so disgusting - i don't know why friends and family members struggle to speak up about it the majority of the time like when an age difference is that large, the whole "age is just a number" bullshit becomes so irrelevant

We moved in together when I was 18 and he dropped me when I was 20 because I got too old 💀 I ignored all the red flags even though his baby mama who he got with when she was also 16 tried to get through to me while I was still in the relationship. Same concept tho I thought we were special. I’m 30 now and that man is so gross 😭 he’s 42 now dating young “legal” aged girls in Kuwait now 🤢

I have to agree with you there. I wouldn't have acknowledged I was groomed if it weren't for the fact that he was so financially controlling that I would've been homeless if my parents didn't fly me back home. Throughout those 2 weeks while packing he showed his true colours, threatened me, tried manipulating me, guilt tripped me, said he wouldn't get violent then punched a hole in a door so I took my old phone back from him (his phone was stolen so he was using my old one) so I had an emergency phone hidden for me to use and I locked doors. The day that I left, I had him call me only to scream at me and then he attempted to turn my friends and family against me. Almost succeeded with my parents somehow but my friends were not having it. When I first found out about the cheating, I originally wasn't sure if I should break up. I wanted to fix things, I felt responsible.

my brother is 8 years older than me, and he had a best friend who knew me since I was quite literally in a crib. He watched me grow up for my whole life, and I thought of him like another older brother. He hit me up in my DMs right after I turned 18, and I was CRUSHED. I had heard about him having a thing for younger girls, but I never ever thought he would think about me that way. I told my brother and no one has spoken to him since. I am so glad I had a family that protected me and taught me this type of behavior was disgusting, because that is the only reason I knew to speak up. I feel so bad for Indiana, her support system (or lack thereof) entirely failed her.

I wonder if the mom saw it comming and wanted to have it "under control"? I know it's a stretch but I remember when I was in middle school a friend of mine was in a similar situation and her mom (understandably) went ballistic. But that made my friend just keep stuff from her mom, sneak out, etc. I remember when I told my mom she sighed and said "I'm so sorry for both of them, but if that happened to you I think I would pretend to be OK with it just so that you could tell me things and I would know if it got real bad". Idk, that's really stayed with me since I think about it a lot. Same as my mom (and the culture I grew up in) are very prude and against sex ed etc... but my mom always gave me and my ex bf (almost) complete privacy and said "I hope you're not doing anything stupid but if you are, I'd rahter it be under my roof and not in some random place where you could get hurt". And for that I actually trusted her and never did anything (too) stupid. Anyway of you got here thx for reading hahaha I'm not excusing the mom since it's definetly a strech, but idk this came to my mind immidiately Edit: ok sorry for the huge amount of incorrect grammar and spelling but its early over here and my english (not my main language) is not working yet lmao

I stated from the start that I was uncomfortable with anything sexual and that I was ace + too young + worried about my safety. She constantly pushed this boundary, which was a massive red flag. We broke up due to the age difference and the whole time I had no idea that I was being groomed. I mentioned her to my friends who were rightfully worried for my safety, but I ignored them because I enjoyed the attention and the validation, and didn’t think anything was wrong. I still suffer from PTSD and still have panic attacks when I remember him. There is not much difference between the ages of 25 and 30, but believe me, there is an immeasurable age gap between the ages of 16 and 21. Please warn young girls about such men. If you are a young girl reading this, please take my advice as your older sister and leave that bastard and talk to a trusted adult about this. If he is trying to keep you around with threats such as "If you leave me, I will destroy you", go to the police immediately and don't worry, abusers are brave until they see the police. My heart breaks for everyone who has been through this. I was 15 and the bastard was 21. I thought it was my first love. The things these people do to you that stick with you are truly horrible. It warped my whole sense of self, my understanding of what love is and what it looks like. It meant I went from horrible man to horrible man until I ended up in a fully emotionally abusive relationship, something I never thought I would experience and find myself in. I'm 30 now and I've been on a healing journey, getting my life together like I never knew I could. Please, if there are young girls or boys reading these comments, who have been approached by grown adults in any sort of physical or romantic ways, please, please, please listen to those of us who were in your position and who will never forgive them for what they did to us. They make you feel important, they make you feel grown up and not like the others your age. It is all a lie. They chose you exactly because you are the age you are. And trust us, people who were in your shoes and have now grown up ourselves, when we say the day we were their age we truly understood how bad it was. When I was 21 and it dawned on me that there was nothing a 15 year old could do or say to make me see them as anything but a child, I had to suddenly deal with what had happened to me. I would give anything to be able to turn back time and get away before he had the chance to even talk to me, let alone hurt me physically.

Truly his behaviour of being so detached while hurting his friends(colleagues?)feelings without a care in the world(it was justified as him being a cool guy). To me that was a red flag but then he went on a channel to try to find out what white woman has a black partner and he made a very gross edgy😜 joke that was played out for laughs asking one of the women the size of pads they wear because we know women who sleep with black men are looser down there hence heavier bleeding(?) but it was funny because he was self aware apparently(there is little to no reaction on his face anyway) so it was a funny joke about "real science". So, people chose to just not believe her because i guess some don't understand that in abusive relationships there is also things that were ok but the bad experiencies outweigh the good ones. As a parent myself with a son who is 20 and a daughter who is 17, shame on the MOTHER for putting her daughter in an ADULT situation. It’s our job as parents to PROTECT our children. That means protecting them from adults who prey on vulnerable children. I’m not sure what the mother thought would happen. In fact i wouldn’t be surprised if she allowed things to happen between these two. I’ve seen parents be perfectly fine with their child dating an adult. I’m fact I have seen what can happen when you allow your 15 yr old daughter’s 22 yr old boyfriend to move in…it doesn’t end well and I’m astounded at the shock these parents have WHEN not IF something happens. Not a single person protected this girl. Right now she is too young to see that it is grooming but one day, she will and she will have to work through and process that. I don’t get how ppl can be so damn trusting of complete strangers. It happens so much now and parents don’t care. Let children have their innocence and stop putting them in adult situations with adult consequences. The mother is no better than the predator

I was wondering where the mother was in all of this. I'm sure she didn't hire the dude with the forethought that he might perv on her 14 year old daughter, but once she saw how close they were getting (and she HAD to have seen it, considering he lived with them), I don't understand how that didn't majorly bother her. Because you're right, plenty of parents don't care when an older man dates their daughter. A lot of times those mom's dated adults when they were teens themselves because it wasn't always seen as automatically inappropriate like it is now. It was very normalized. Jerry Seinfeld very openly dated a high schooler in the 90's when he was in his THIRTIES and barely anyone raised alarm bells. They made jokes about it but otherwise laughed it off, and that is how something becomes normalized. I'm sure Zach justifies his relationship with Indiana *because* her mother doesn't care. He probably thinks, "See? How is it grooming when her own mother trusts me?" Which in turn won't make Indiana think that she's a victim herself, she'll make that same justification. 'I wasn't groomed because my mother knew what was happening the entire time and she didn't think it was a big deal." For all we know, Zach manipulated the mother as well into thinking it wasn't a big deal, or he kept it secret around her until Indiana was old enough for it to be justified. Whatever the case, that mother needs a wakeup call. I can only hope that Indiana isn't further abused in this relationship, and I hope she doesn't end up too damaged or confused in all of this. :\

I've been an angry anarchist, feminist, leftist since high school, and in decades before when I would express my discomfort and disgust at age gap relationships, the grooming of younger people by older folks who should damn well know better, the power imbalance inherent in these relationships, etc, I would get told that I was taking things too seriously, that it's not that bad, dismissive things like that. Changes like this give me hope for the future in a very bleak time.

"Maybe not physically". Dude, the whole point is that they didn't do it physically. That's not lying, that's being honest. In communication, there are these things called implicit assumptions. That is, things that are assumed but not openly said out loud. In this case, if they're asked if anything ever happened before 18, they will, like most normal people, assume you're talking about something physical.

My oldest half-brother tried to groom me and possibly lure me into a bad situation when I was younger. Luckily my mom saw the messages between us and saw the red flags immediately, and put an end to it quickly. I didn't understand what was wrong at first because I was just a kid. It took me many, many years to realize that the situation was extremely inappropriate and that he may have been planning to harm me. I hope this young woman realizes someday that she was groomed. Even though it's clear as day what's happened, the person being groomed just doesn't think anything of it, and may not think anything of it until long after the relationship has happened, if at all.

Several years after the groom attempt, when I was still very much a minor, we were chatting on Windows Messenger (early 2000s lol) and he would beg me specifically for pictures of me and my friends "just having fun". Luckily I was old enough to realize how fucking weird of a request that was and why he was asking for it. In both situations, he was a grown-ass adult btw. He knew what he was doing was wrong. He unalived himself in 2017. I still have very mixed emotions about his passing, because he was my brother, but also he tried to prey on me several times and that's just not okay. He struggled with addiction his whole adult life because our dad is a piece of crap, so it's just a very complicated thing.

@@sofiafuentesargueta8036 yes, hopefully there were backlash against this relationships for exemple in 1600's in France, there were a drama show called "l'école des femmes" who speaks about a groomer that wants to marry an orphan girl once she's grown and he's turned into ridicule and (spoiler) the girl run with her same age lover at the end. This drama worked out so much in France that it was played everywhere for years in France and for the king (when we used to have kings ;) ). The popularity of the show showed that people thought it was creepy for an old man to date a young girl even in the 1500's. Groomers always justified that before it used to happen but I don't think it was that much. It was maybe less looked down but still looked down on it if you understand what I mean.

I turned 15 not long after we started dating and lost my virginity to him not much longer after that. We stayed together until I was 16, almost 17 and he was 21. To this day I feel weird whenever I think about our relationship. How I would never have done the same and don't understand how he ever liked me. I was a child. A very mentally unstable child. I found out that behind the scenes my mom and his mom were always talking and trying to separate us but do it in a way that we wouldn't secretly date behind their backs. His mom was terrible to me and made me feel like I was the problem instead of ever trying to talk to me about WHY she thought our being together was inappropriate. I think about that a lot. WHO THE FU*K invites a young man to LIVE WITH THEM to edit videos for their daughter!????! and yeah, the 5 signs, him being in that house around the child made her idolize him whether she admits to it or not, and him acting like this kind, sweet, caring "brother" was all a part of the manipulation to get her to be fond of him. he knew he had her teased, he KNEW exactly what he was doing subconsciously, playing this unattainable older boy who lives in her house that she can't be with but who he is very hands on and sweet with, which would make someone want you (GROSS). i don't care if she had a boyfriend before him when she was a minor, he couldn't date her then, it doesn't mean that nothing was happening between her and him just cuz she had a partner. OH and they were DEFINITELY dating before she was 18, he slipped and exposed himself, they just didn't make it publicly official til after she turned 18.. that's why she said they "had to keep it under wraps." why else would they say that, why hide a relationship if there's nothing weird about it....... i actually knew a man like this, a former boss, who admitted to doing this and MARRIED the girl he used to babysit, and told me he was a sociopath. so. anyone who comes across him is a victim. he has people fooled by his "golden retriever charm" where "he's just playing a character when he comes up with and cracks these creepy, offensive 'jokes'." HELLOOOOO everyone said this about SHANE DAWSON and we ALL KNOW what type of person he is....... not to mention how his podcast was DISTURBING ASF, JUST LIKE what zach's is like............... indiana WILL wake up and see, most young people don't see or understand it so it comes through as denial, but they always look back and see as they grow and learn through experiences. i can't imagine how brutal that will be for her, but she will have the support of many. her brain can't comprehend or understand yet, as she is still naive. think about it, she went to therapy and did all this work after being made to think she was the evil problem and had the most perfect boyfriend who treated her so well. she thinks she was the one to blame who ruined everything. what would help is if zach is exposed for how his "sweet, caring, knight in shining armor" is not his personality, but a facade to get people to admire and adore him, and have them fooled, thinking he's innocent and that "he could never be a monster." because she's still in contact with him. it should help shatter people's rose colored perceptions they have of him. but he is manipulative so hopefully they don't continue to fall for it and stand by him. also, he DOES know what he did, he is just scrambling to minimize and diminish it to play it off as if it's nothing. remember when Quen was on the podcast? to zach, she was like i get a weird vibe off of you and your face sum aint right, i don't f with you. she knows, she sees it, and she picked up on it. tara swears he's sweet off set, and oh i'm SURE he is (LOL) but quen said she was skeptical of it when she told her that. she senses it. btw, i've been in an abusive relationship, so i know what narcissistic abuse is like and what these mfs are like. he checks many, if not all, boxes just from what we know so far. and he's the extremely cold and calculated kind. half a red flag is more than enough, always. don't gaslight yourselves out of what you see and feel when it comes to him and others like him. if you ever even have to question or side eye something, then something is DEFINITELY off.

Zach Justice - what a joke. This guy has built an entire career off of being a "nice guy" and a "good friend," but the cracks in that facade are starting to show. It's absolutely infuriating to see someone with such a massive platform exploit people's trust. The allegations against him are serious, and the way he's handled them isdespicable. Where's the accountability? Where's the remorse? Instead, it's gaslighting, victim-blaming, and a whole lot of deflection. It's clear as day that he's more concerned about saving his own skin than actually addressing the harm he's caused. His fans, the ones who blindly worship him, are just as problematic. Ignoring the red flags, defending the indefensible - it's sickening. It’s like they're more invested in maintaining their idealized image of him than supporting survivors. It's high time the internet woke up and called this guy out for who he really is. No more free passes. No more turning a blind eye. It’s time for Justice (ironic, right?) to face the consequences of his actions.

I really hope that everything becomes clear to Indiana when she’s older. I really liked one of my teachers who I believed was just a good person to me but years later realized he was grooming me. He tried getting me alone in his car using the excuse “teaching me how to drive” and he’d kiss my head sometimes. He was in his 60s and I was 17. I trusted him, and because he was my teacher and I was going through really bad mental health issues that I needed accommodations for, he knew I was vulnerable. I didn’t even know until years later when in one of my college classes we were discussing the signs of grooming and everything just clicked. I’m very lucky how safely I got out of that, and I hate to think about what might’ve happened if I let him teach me to drive.

My first reaction to Cody ko situation was "ohh come on, she was 17, she could've said no" and i just realised it was because i was assaulted for years since i was 9 and i still blame myself somewhere. I'm beyond ashamed that i use to think like that. With all these youtubers being harsh with the predators, i just realised i deserve much better. I'm just beginning to realise that what happened was not my fault. It's never the victim's fault.

Tbh the Cody Ko situation is... eh. In the US the age limit is 18. In almost every other country it's 15-16. Yes, he broke the law, but pedo? Eh.

@@iu.lia.na. A pedophile is a person who is attracted to children. A 17 year old isn't a child. Should he face consequences for breaking the law in the country that he lives in? Sure. But he can't be classified as a pedophile as he isn't one. What he did was illegal, but a pedophile is much worse.

@mathiasnkristensen you're focused on semantics such as if he can be categorised as a pedo or not when that's not the problem. You go through DRASTIC development, at least as a girl, from 17 to 22-25 (depending on the person). You are still naive, obsessive, easy to manipulate, and it creates an inappropriate power dynamic with a guy his age. I've been a massive cody & tmg fan for like 8 years now and I initially thought the same as you, ok, it's not THAT bad, but God the way he's treating the situation is disgusting. Oh and let's not forget the minor he was it before Tana the year prior.

@mathiasnkristensen I'm not sure if my comment got deleted, I was saying you're focusing on semantics such as if he can be categorised as a pedo or not when that's not the problem here. At 17 you're easily impressionable, naive, easy to manipulate by a guy his age (who she said she was a fan of, too). That is a very inappropriate power imbalance. Also let's not forget the minor he was with the year before Tana, AND the way he's addressing the situation now. It makes me sad because I've been a big fan since 2016

that’s what i was thinking, he was in his young 20s flirting like a cringey HS boy which makes sense bc she was literally a teenager. he also looks a bit younger like i don’t know of him well but when i did see clips of him, i would’ve thought he was a bit younger than he is so if no one knows if his age, they prolly didn’t think much of it. that & being attractive let him get away w it for way too long, he’s a weirdo esp when he’s pretty popular & could likely date some attractive influencer his own age but happen to chose a girl you knew for years when she was a minor & were supposed to be a brother too more than anything. but also fuck her mom for even allowing this to happen

The guilt tripping and speaking for Indiana when trying to convince Zina that he’s not a groomer just makes him look more guilty. “If you cared….” “Indiana would be happy to explain this” “Indiana doesn’t want this…” you wouldn’t need your alleged victim to defend you if you knew it could be explained away. It’s giving “she wanted it/was okay with it so it’s okay.” As stated, just cause she doesn’t feel like a victim doesn’t mean she isn’t one. Just like how Tana explained when discussing the Cody Ko stuff…she wasn’t traumatized by it but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t wrong
