Hey Jimmy, this is one of my most anticipated mysteries ever since I started watching a year and a half ago! It was worth the wait. I was wondering if you had heard of this documentary on Peacock that claimed that the Zodiac Killer was a myth (or the book that influenced it)? If so, what do you think of that theory. Thoughts on the theory on Arthur Leigh Allen? PS, where can I send questions for Weird Questions? I had an interesting one on The Twilight Zone and the Catholic Faith.
@EdEdwardsCiphers3 ай бұрын
The Zodiac Killer myth hoax could fit within the context of recent "Truther" conspiracies. Which include, "Sandy Hook" not being real killings of children, the "Holocaust" not being the real persecution and state sponsored murder of a whole race of people. All of this is to say, I view it as the respite of unsophisticated ppl that can't comprehend that the world is a place where atrocities can occur, so they run and hide from reality, instead of accepting that the world is, as it is. It's like a child pulling the blanket over their heads during a storm. The storm does not go away because of it, but it does eventually go away and could provide soothing succor to the simple minded.

Did anyone else notice how in the letter to the lawyer the handwriting totally changed? The writing in the other letters is slanted and narrow, and everything in the final one is so straight and round. I thought it must be a fake until Jimmy said he included another piece of the shirt. I want to take a shot at a psychological profile based on what was in this episode. Seems to me that the Zodiac killer felt a need for power and control. He also was extremely angry when he perceived someone was ignoring him or was misunderstanding him. He had a car, so probably a job. My guess is he would be a very difficult employee because of a resentment of authority. He probably showed ambition at work but his personality would hold him back and that would make him more resentful. As a result, he might have had some difficulty in staying with one job for any real length of time. He probably had difficulty socially in school but had the academic ability to pass. His psychological issues might have prevented him from graduating though. So his job prospects were entry level, blue collar stuff. I'm guessing he was single and didn't have any children. If he was in his mid to late 20's in 68, he would be in his 80's if he made it that long. It is possible but seems unlikely to me that he is still alive today. I think his ego would still be demanding attention and so he would have been communicating with someone about a biography.
@EdEdwardsCiphers3 ай бұрын
That's almost an exact profile of my namesake Edward Wayne Edwards. You know he (I) was a serial killer that killed couples, on lovers lanes. He (I) also was a truck driver during the killings in San Francisco. And He (I) had an above average IQ because he was in and out of prison his entire life, and had a psychological workup done, that is public record. One thing though, He (I) had a full family even thought he (I) was a serial killer. This is not uncommon and is similar to BTK, who also had a family and was still a serial killer, who attempted to communcate with the authorities using codes. Unsuccessfully.

I just watched a video talking about a guy on Tik Tok who thinks his grandfather, Richard Hoffman, could have been the Zodiac killer. The reasons for the suspicion are actually compelling. It could have been Richard Hoffman, who was a police officer in Vallejo at the time of the murders. Seems like a real possibility to me.
@aprilblake27844 ай бұрын
I wonder if officer Richard Hoffman killed the woman he was having an affair with and created the Zodiac killer character to cover his tracks. He knew about a previous unsolved murder and knew he could confuse the investigation into his lovers murder by tying the murders together. Investigating a couple of future murders, like the cab driver, he could pin them on the Zodiac character as well. The hooded man could have been him, deepening the character, or could have been a copycat. You never know.

I want to voice a concern about this episode being too much glorification of a likely demon possessed man and not enough emphasis being placed on the young innocent victims. Is this matter really being approached from a Catholic perspective??
@jendoe94364 ай бұрын
As Jimmy mentioned at the beginning, this topic is being broken out into multiple videos in order to provide a better focus on The Zodiac Killer topic. This episode comes across more as a basic information dump to lay out the timeline of the happening, and will develop more into the inner workings later. This episode is far from “glorifying” the killer, it’s simply laying out the events as they unfolded. I’ve listened to true crime channels, shows, podcasts, etc. and they are way more likely to glorify these kind of events more than Jimmy does, especially these types of crimes. Since this is a basic overview of an expected longer series, it’s understandable we won’t dive into most of the people because that will add in a lot of details that can clutter the overall narrative of the episode. Just because a five minute segment isn’t being devoted to the victims, it doesn’t mean they are being ignored or pushed aside in the narrative. Jimmy will most likely give his final “Catholic perspective” at the end once everything has been laid in, as he tends to do with these episodes and has done for multi-part videos.
@bensolo70004 ай бұрын
@@jendoe9436 I disagree. Jimmy typically has his co-host read things, yet for this episode there was a more dramatic voice used. My complaint isn't as much that the episode is inappropriate fundamentally, my concern is how it was handled creatively. It ends on a cliff hanger of "you know I'm going to kill you"??? Killing is a mortal sin against a commandment of God. My complaint is that his disclaimer at the beginning is false. He should have said that they WILL be using dramatic voice to illicit some amount of accuracy and drama; not claim that he WASN'T going to do so. Just tell us the truth. Just be aware of what you are actually doing.

@@bensolo7000 Jimmy and Don have had other people narrate before, and over the past year have employed them more often to give the topic dimension and draw in the audiences’ attention. Mysterious World is a learning show, but also used for entertainment. A straight read of the police reports, letters, etc. would eventually become boring or not give justice to the events and people involved. Jimmy also didn’t say he wasn’t going to use ANY dramatic elements in the beginning of the video, he said he wasn’t going to over dramatize the topic like other people do. If the Zodiac Killer was known to speak in a certain style, then it would be prudent to replicate it in order to better reflect the events as they happened. I genuinely wasn’t expecting a narrator for the ZK voice, but it was a pleasant surprise because it did add more to the overview and this voice narrator has done good work on this channel in the past. Also, everyone with basic knowledge knows murder is a sin. Hence why the ZK struck terror into people. The cliff hanger about the ZK with his victim is in line with the entertainment nature of this show, as that will probably lead into the next segment of the series Jimmy is going to explore. I would not be too scrupulous with this issue as most people understand the horror of the ZK’s actions and the presentation so far is being handled quite clinically compared to many other presentations I’ve seen on the ZK and others. Long time viewers know Jimmy’s style and how MW operates with stuff like this, and it’s definitely tame compared to what you can find out there.
