I dated some cougars when I was in my 20s for exactly this reason: Lack of options. (I was persistently under-employed in my 20s.) As soon as I turned 30 and had a career, I stopped dating older women. And when I turned 34, I stopped dating women my own age, too. I don’t regret that I ever dated cougars - unlike the women my age at the time, they forgave my flaws and lack of income and experience, and I learned a lot by being with them. I have dated many. The hope, expectations, and the lowering of one's guard with the prejudice that a feemail with more life experience is equal to a better partnership aka "no games," is NEVER going to materialize in reality. Never before have there been so many women aged 35-50 still in the dating market while at the same time having a shortage of young people. So as someone in your mid twenties it's hard to find people your age, it's even harder to find people younger than you, that's before you even take into consideration modern sky-high standards, however you have this growing pool of women just 5 or 10 years older than you who also happen to have less standards by sheer attrition of time. I dated someone 18 years older than me during the late 90s. I would say to any young guys thinking of doing this kind of thing; have an exit strategy, like for any risky venture. It was good, a relationship of convenience really, but I was fairly clear about that. Even still they will catch feelings for you. It's not a dynamic where it's likely both will walk away happy. Coupla counter-points: 1) You gotta admit women in their 20s are a nightmare to deal with. Their whole attitude is a serious put off. For this reason I'd always been interested in older women. They've "settled" down a bit in their minds. Maturity on that level is desirable. 2) While it's certainly not realistic to expect to be with a much older woman forever -- imagine by the time you're in your 40s she's what, in her 60s? Implausible. But knowing it's not going to be a forever deal, being with her could ease up a young man's anxiety about not being with ANY woman, and when the time is right and he's in his 30s or 40s, he could find ANOTHER woman in her 30s or 40s to be with for the long haul. So the concept has the flaws you point out but it's not without its merits.

I've said this for years: the fact that men may be an asset that can (in theory) 'appreciate' in value from their teens to their forties, and that women are a depreciating asset from their thirties onwards, doesn't change the fact that because they (in general) start out worth so much more, even when they've depreciated they're still (generally) worth more. In conversations I’ve had with older women, it’s not really about physical beauty (though that’s also there) But it’s also that older women tend to communicate more clearly than women my age? My god brother did this for a couple years. I feel that he is either severely autistic or suffering from high levels of anxiety and depression which we're most likely brought on from his childhood experiences being the son of Argentinian parents with explosive outbursts at every waking hour of his youth. His parents split up into his teens and he then joined the Marines and was soon kicked out because of pot. He was been with his mom ever since his parents split and the dynamic has stayed the same.
