As for Legion GO, the Legion Go should in theory have less performance than this, as well as lacking the OLED screen. This thing from what I've seen is £799, which is the same price as the ROG Ally X, so that's what it's competing against.

The Steam Deck is unscathed, while the Ally has a very tiny Crack in the bottom casing in one corner and a tiny piece of the plastic casing on top that chipped away (near top of the screen). Assuming this handheld is built well with quality materials I think it will survive a few drops at least for the most part.

Storage is null as they both have 2280 slots. ROG Ally X has the bigger battery life at 80Wh vs 52Wh or something like that. I'm not sure how much extra battery life this is though, because OLED screens draw a lot less power, and the APU is a newer generation, so will be more efficient than the Z1 Xtreme. So the real battle is the 24GB RAM vs the OLED screen upgrade.

Smother experience especially since there going the distance with the oled at 120 hz non vrr it needs that bigger ram to run a steady 60 fps on AAA games . That's my opinion will see when it drops just don't buy it right away wait for KZbin to compare to the Ally x . If it performs well get it . If not you saved you a headache.

The ASUS supports VRR and the oled screen does not currently. Thats why ASUS did not give it oled yet because next gen of oled will support VRR!. The oled breaks immersion and there is tearing in many games I like. Variable refresh rate(VRR) is NEEDED for fps games. This is why I stopped playing my oled steam. It tears many games and the color boost is not worth it to me. VRR allows a game to be buttery smooth with frame rates. The oles does not. It’s a hold back for many games. Cyber punk and COD are games that show how horrible no VRR looks on a oled screen.. Play these games on asus and the beautiful buttery smooth frames look better than a laggy oled to me.

I play my asus rog ally X on my couch in my living room, in bed before I fall asleep, or when im on the toilet lol. My asus does everything to keep me satisfied and entertained whenever. sometimes after a long hard day of work youe not in the mood to sit and play on a monitor and you just want to quickly lay back and play the handheld pc.

Really tired of tiny 7 inch screens on handhelds. The Legion Go has plenty of things I don't love about it but the 8.8 inch screen size is glorious. it's the only handheld I've been able to comfortably use as a daily driver. Hopefully 8 inch screens become the norm since that's the size Nintendo is going with for the Switch 2.

Since using the PS Portal’s 8” I’ve got to agree that I think 7.5-8” is the sweet spot. Text and UI elements seems much more readable than on my 7” LED Steam Deck.

The only time I didn’t mind the 7” screen is on the Onexplayer Mini Pro, because it barely has bezels at the top and bottom and it’s smaller than the other handhelds so the 7” screen works well for it.

Is there an affordable high refresh 8.8 inch OLED on the market? They're sourcing what's available, same as valve. Spinning up a custom screen will pump the price. Especially OLED, as smaller oleds are cut out of larger OLED panels. You get what you get, or you pay for the waste.

16gb this late in the game.. Everything else looks nice. But 24 or 32 should be the norm going forward now. Especially at 1080p on an iGPU. Steam Deck can get away with 16gb because of Linux, and 800p. 16gb soldered plus the ability for user to add more later would be ideal. Though likely not best for mass market adoption. But personally I don't see a Zotac hitting mass anyway.

No soldered ram. Asus did that with their zephyrus g14 laptops and that meant that you'd have dual channel up to 16gb, and if you upgraded, your ram speed DROPS past 16gb since the soldered 8gb can't be replaced or upgraded easily.

32 GB should of been standard since the original Rog Ally / Legion Go / etc. Chinese companies have been making these the longest and are still the best at it and they have been throwing in 32/64 GB SKUs way before Asus or Lenovo got involved. RAM is cheap and in scenarios where you need it it is irreplaceable. It's pathetic any company is releasing these with a min 32 now.

This thing looks pretty sweet! I love my deck! This is the only handheld besides the deck that I have been kind of excited for. The trackpads on the deck are so nice, I don't think I would want to go without them. This seems like a higher powered Deck. I've used windows on my deck a decent amount, so that doesn't bother me. Will I pick it up though? Im not sure. I get a feeling the Deck 2 might come out next year, and I think I can hold off until then.

Maybe im super basic but when it comes to handhelds i love playing indie games, retro games, or older tripple a games so power wise im already set with the current market. The biggest thing that makes me look forward to new handhelds is either A display improvements B battery improvements (didnt mean to but b for battery works T.T) C ergonomics / controls. At the end of the day im just happy we are making a return to handheld gaming! Probably being raised with a gameboy ruined my brain but imo handheld gaming = fun gaming! Cheers everyone!

Agreed. It should’ve been $599 tops, $499 ideally. Sure it has an AMOLED, but it’s just a fancy name for OLED. The 8840 is just a 7840 with an NPU and that is equivalent to a Z1 Extreme. Only advantage that it has is that it can use off the shelf AMD drivers…. They are new to the space, and with the Ally X existing they cannot ask so much. Better drop the price or it’s DOA

Of course I'm waiting on the Zone to be released 🕺 Even more: to me, resisting the desire to purchase it will be even harder than the same for the Ally X. Why? Because I value constantly pleasing OLED way more over the time-to-time useful VRR. Plus touchpads. Plus 24 GB of RAM in the X are great, but their impact over the most games' performance ended up being minor. Only the bigger capacity of the battery in the X is still great -- that's not questionable. Not questionable, but for people like me who are mostly playing on the couch, that power cord is not a problem. I'm using the Deck OLED in the same way already. But! No pre-orders. I want to see live tests first, not marketing numbers (these are already nice, except the price 😅).

It's a tough sell tbh. It looks awesome I love the track pads and the camera is an interesting add. I can see it being $800 with the things they have going on. But it being as heavy as it is, and only having a sub 50wh battery makes it a hard to reccoment over the ally x. at the same price point. Zotac doesnt normally make whole devices, so it's interesting having them join the market. I hope it turns out good for those who get it. I think it needs a little more grip though, it looks like its going to feel a little like a heavier og ally with how shallow the grips on the handles are. Really hope they nail the controller software though.

I like almost everything about it. The things I don't like: 16gigs of RAM. I'm not sure why companies don't embrace that the bare minimum these day should be 32gigs. Having to share RAM with both the GPU and CPU is annoying, especially for higher demanding titles. 512 storage. Odd that most devices are coming standard with 1Tb at that price rage. I wonder how much they plan on selling the 512 model for. That being said, I wont be interested in this device since I already own a Legion Go. At this point, I'm waiting for a generational hardware upgrade before I upgrade to a new device.

This looks like the best handheld PC since the Deck to be honest. My only issues are that it's 512GB not 1TB, and there's only two macro buttons on the rear, personally I think every handheld and controller needs 4 rear buttons. If it's able to run the games the Deck struggles to hit 60FPS with and it can run them at 1080p 60FPS I'll be seriously tempted.

Low battery life, the difference with equal competitors is only an amoled display. No idea why somebody would take it now. For example Deck updated both(a display and a battery) and that's why it won.

The VR “sphere” has hardly changed at all…. Only thing is headsets are running higher resolutions now. So GTX 1080, RTX 3060 or better is all you need. Typically VR games are gonna be CPU and VRAM bound. So as long as you have a solid CPU and a Mid-Range GPU you are good.

This is dead, Zotac should have used a bigger screen, something around 7.5-8.0", a minumum of 60wh battery, with 24GB ram, then it might get people excited..

When I first got the steam deck I knew that I would never buy another handheld unless it had dual track pads. this one has it so i'm more interested in it. pc handhelds need (good track pads) it just makes navigating more enjoyable, especially dealing with windows. I will be skipping the the ally x and will be waiting for this one.

Oled is great. But after using the ally x I need at least a 65w hour battery in my handhelds

Hopefully those radial dials can be assigned to scroll for navigation alongside the trackpads. I also doubt the camera's WIndows Hello compatible with a fingerprint reader already embedded in the power button, and especially since the description doesn't explicitly state that it is.

i like the track pads it sucks the steam deck is the only only one that has 2 .. its a must for me. i was going to get a lenovo go because it close but il just hold on to mt steam deck till this thing comes out.. supper cool

The ally is about as big as I would consider portable. Currently enjoying the RG556 with local streaming/emulation/native games, the screen is a bit too small for text in some games, though (pacific drive for example).

Did you slow video playback to stretch the video length? 1.1 speed feels like the original speed.

For $799 they should’ve had 32GB RAM and a larger battery (60-80W/hr). This should’ve been a lower price tier model if anything…. It’s nowhere near good enough for the asking price

As a legion go owner, I would rather get the ally x instead. I like everything about the zotac but the battery life is going to be a deal breaker for me
