their drummer, sean reinert, has died in january. he was widely regarded as a pioneer and innovator of technical drumming in metal. he played on the records death human in 1991 and cynic focus in 1993. both are considered landmark metal albums.

Aww, Sean. I'm thankful I got to meet them in Gothenburg 2008. So nice and inviting people. Randomly met Paul in a hallway behind the place they had just played at and he invited me and my friends backstage to meet the others (Sean, Tymon, and Robin) and get their autograph. It was awesome. He even followed us to the front door when we left.

This song is pure masterpiece. And that drum solo section always left me in awe, it's so fluid, so mumuch musicality there with the bass. R.I.P. Sean Reinert, what an incredible work you did.

Both the drummer and bassist that played on this passed away. Absolutely tragic. Cynic is dropping a new album soon. I believe this music should live on in their memory…Cynic will take you to a special space.

How Could I, always and forever my favorite Cynic song, with my favorite (ever, from anyone) guitar solo ending the song. Not b/c it's the hardest to play, but b/c it's just PERFECT, and a perfect ending to the song. thanks 4 featuring these guys who have had a tough last year (2 members from the Focus era and later, amazing drummer Sean Reinert (see the tribute vid to him) and bassplayer Sean Malone.

Definitely a 1st time reaction. Dear friends of this channel. My name is daniel. I recently discovered this album back in 2016 and they have been the only band that I've ever connected with on a level not yet understood by most. They are a rabbit hole of information pertaining to the myths about human civilization and more great songs regarding the human psyche. This band saved my life and restored my musical vision. I own every album they have and will always draw inspiration from this source. They are a must have in your collection as the frontman Paul Masvidal is such a diverse musician and has collaborated with many great artists and talents such as Jim Carey. This raw style of sound is packed with a spiritual punch that will knock you off your feet and ascend you into a realm that lifts you up to greater heights. Great video guys.

You have to react to "Focus" in it's entirety. The lead guitarist and singer Paul Masvidal described writing the songs for Focus as a cathartic experience, where the band gave themselves up to the music, let their energies flow through what then became their first album. He likens it to an out of body experience, where no one person was in charge of it all, there was just a purpose and a reason to be.

I first saw cynic when they supported opeth. They had somehow passed me by. Traced in air had just been released. I was just blown away & mesmerised. Traced in air has been rereleased, the death growls have been removed & everything’s been polished sound wise. Even all the bass has been re recorded

Wow, wasn't expecting this one, but glad that you are receptive to it. If you like this, maybe check out Veil of Maya or How Could I, also by Cynic. Maybe even check out the album Human by Death. It features Cynic's drummer Sean Reinert (R.I.P.) and their guitarist Paul Masvidal. The sheer technical and musical talent these guys possess is astonishing.

As a guitarist in Florida when their first album Focus came out in 1993 it changed everything in the metal community here. One of the reasons I started drumming later on was because of Sean Reinhert (R.I.P.), great reaction.

Just watched this reaction for the first time. I could see it in your eyes what you were feeling. Amazing to watch people experience something like this for the first time, that's the only reason why I like reaction videos. To the lady (sorry don't know your names!), your chakras did open! Blessings and love. It was a pleasure to watch you both enjoy the song.

Glad you liked my request! I had a feeling you'd be into this one. Their roots are in death metal. So there's a tiny bit of overlap with the band "Death", but not super significant. This song and the album it's off of is basically just straight forward progressive metal. So it has similarities to Dream Theater and Between the Buried and Me, who I think you should definitely check out. If you give another Cynic song a shot, I'd go with their song "Integral Birth" off the same album. And if you decide to give Between the Buried and Me a shot at some point, a good song to start off with is "The Coma Machine".

@@TheAdventuresofTNT Like he said the entire album is a masterpiece. I would also recommend Adam's Murmur from the same album. As for Between the Buried and Me I would suggest Sun of Nothing as a better starting point because it showcases more of the true nature of the band.

Ohh yeah whenever someone implies that metal is primitive I think of Cynic. They were actually one of the first to combine particularly the softer aspects of jazz prog with death metal. They sound new and space age but theyve actually been around for a while.

The thing about chakras is funny because they are totally going for that transcendental psychedelic sound. Machine elves and new age mysticism. That sort of thing.
@dpclerks09 Жыл бұрын
Paul Masvidal is sharing profound spiritual insights. There's no mysticism about it. It's rooted in Hinduism, Tibetan Buddhism, and Native Shipibo Shamanic practices. He has been an admirably disciplined student of these schools for over 30 years. He continues to do the inner work. He's participated in Ceremony. He does Hospice work. He's the real deal. A Great Soul that we should cherish while he's still with us on this plane. Rest in Peace Sean Reinert and Sean Malone 💔
