So many people have problems with the Crop Tool in Raw Therapee, especially new users coming to Raw Therapee from other applications such as Lightroom.
In this video I show you how to EASILY FIX the crop tool 'visualisation' problems and make it work visually just like the crop tool in Lightroom or Photoshop - or any of the commercially available raw processors.
Can't get rid of the bounding box? Easy Fix!

Nice, thanks Andy. Once you have selected the crop if you shift and hold the click you can move the crop around as well.

Thanks for the RawTherapee tutorials. You are truly an knowledgeable ambassador for the software. I would love to see a similar video on resizing an image. And maybe add some workflow tips on resizing and cropping for export to apps like IG. Or would you do those steps in an editing program like Gimp or PS?

Thank you for putting out RawTherapee videos. Black and white background will affect how the image is going to appear. The same image may look darker with a white background and vice versa. It's a optical illusion. So we can switch the background while editing keeping in mind where the final image is going to end up. If it's in a portfolio with a white background, then we can edit the image with a white background in RawTherapee.

You mean repositioning the Crop? Easy, I can't believe I didn't show it in the video! Hold down SHIFT and left mouse button - this should give you a hand tool, so you can move the crop around the image to get the best composition.

I have been using Affinity Photo. In that programme I can set a crop size and crop the image from outside the image area. I set a crop size to 4:5 say (for Instagram) and I am able crop the image so that here is a space either on top and bottom or both sides (depending on the crop ratio.) I can then fill that blank space (usually with black) using the fill tool. This way I do not lose any part of the image. Is this possible in Raw Therapee?

When I did the shots I was hoping - and praying - for NOT MUCH MORE from him Eigil! There was bugger all between me and him except about 12 meters of fresh air. What's that in Lynx time? Around 2 nanoseconds! And people think these things are small.....

It is in an enclosure - a bloody great big one. Only thing is Eigil - I'm in there too! And so is its mate.......and I never noticed the other one working its way behind me - a dodgy situation ensued!

@@AndyAstbury The trick is not to smell of anxiety - or as I learned in the military - be the fastest in your group. They always go for the slowest and weakest prey. Or bring with you an awful smelling substance like aqua ammonia which you regularly drip in your track. Works with Schäfer dogs - may piss a Lynx off - though.

Is there an equivalent to the "done" button ? Almost every time I move my mouse, I accidentally change the crop. Drives me crazy.

Sadly, no. It's a frustration I know! Leaving cropping right to the end of your process, and moving around the image with the navigator is the only real answer that I know of.

I've played with most of the pic editors at this point. Options are always good but the simplest things are to damn convoluted

That's always the case with FOSS software, as they have no recourse to any GUI design team - all you see is the coders idea of what needs to be there. The 'easy' stuff is what you have to pay for with the commercial editors.
