The body does not demonstrate intentional design. A intelligent architect or an engineer would have not made gross mistakes in the anatomy as our body exhibits: vertebral foramen in C7 with no artery passing through it, the left recurrent laryngeal nerve going past the voice box then returning under the aorta back o the voice box. This can only be logically xplained in the context of evolution as the heart on fish is in the neck area. Cervical ribs, lumbar “gorilla” ribs. Branchial fistulas. Cranial nerve 11 passing into foramen magnum just to come right back out through the jugular. The spinous branch of the mandibular nerve, coming back into the skull through foramen spinosum, to feel the middle cranial fossa, when the trigeminal nerve was already in the same area. Embryologically making a whole tail to later just disappear it, same with the guilles (branchial cleft and pouches 2-3 and 4). Polythelia and polymastia. The presence of a vestigial vermiform appendix which other animals use for digesting cellulose, which we cannot do. For someone to assert that the body is perfectly designed, just goes to show their absolute lack of education in the field of anatomy and embryology.

It reminds me of those experiments they do on people who have had their corpus callosum severed. When they show one eye something, and their hand, on the opposite side, picks it out from a selection. When they are asked to explain why their hand picked the item, they come up with all sorts of imaginative excuses for why their hand picked the item that have nothing to do with the original stimulus. Belief is acting in a similar way, constricting the possible outcomes of thought, yet not doing so consciously. So when queried or presented with questions or evidence at odds with their belief based choice, they have to think on their feet to come up with excuses for what happened. Those excuses have to conform to the belief as well, which is why they end up sounding so strange.

One thing I'll never understand is how someone like this caller can be so aggressively stupid, and at the same time have no recognition that they have no substance to what they claim.

To me it is pathetic that one would have so little desire for learning and clarity, but these may be the most successful breeders and thus the future of the human species. Human intelligence is a powerful survival tool, but very high intelligence has brought with it the two-edged-sword of technology, and the sociopathy of greed. Is this where the clades of homo sapiens branch and part company? A very dangerous prospect for the future of mankind.

As a black man I'm glad that I let my belief in a deity go. I wish more black people do the same. I think it holds mankind back from advancement. If people in general let religion go the world will be a lot better off.

I almost feel bad for the caller because he's so much more respectful than other callers... In some ways. ... He seems like a really nice guy.

When I watch The Atheist Experience, I realise that this programme would only be possible in the US. If someone tried to launch a similar show in one of the countries of western Europe, the viewing figures would be a disaster. The reason being, of course, is that for the majority of people - particularly the young - religion is treated as an irrelevance. Which is why church attendance is now around 5% of the population of the UK, Sweden, Denmark etc etc.

This show would fit well in Brazil as well. There, 98% think that at least one god exists. But I am happy that Europe is leading the way to the critical thinking. Unfortunately they spread this through the America continent, and there is the place where this lie is more relevant.

There’s been a few callers from Europe though. This is for all intents and purposes, an international show

So to use an old joke: This call started badly (faith) It went seriously downhill in the middle (observation is because of what god created) (the body demonstrates design) And the less said about the ending the better (I believe life) These are definitely the best calls for entertainment value. He was so confident at the very beginning of the call (and this was at least his second attempt), but he was on the backfoot from almost the first sentence and just kept trying to dig himself out of a hole and going deeper and deeper and deeper. I can almost guarantee he learned nothing from this call, at all. I am 99.9% sure after the call, he said to himself "well, they just didn't understand what I was saying and they didn't let me explain". The rest he forgot immediately after the call, I would put real money on it.

You know you're in for a treat when the person who calls into a radio show to debate the merits of his position has no idea what the fuck he is there to discuss, promote or defend. It's almost as if he is responding to someone calling him at 3am, rousing him from a deep slumber, asking him to start a conversation. Did he dial the number and then forget what he was doing mid-dial?

If god is behind modern science, why now? Where was this god when humans struggled to survive to even get to age 30? If prehistoric tribes came across water, they were lucky, and do you think for a minute that water wasn't contaminated with giardia for example, and how miserable they felt, if they survived? Where was this god in 1930 when my grandmother was bedfast for 15 years due to MS? Imagine being in a brutal tsunami with your baby, and having it ripped from your arms and carried out to sea? This is real. It happens. This earth is not so friendly towards humans , otherwise, we wouldn't need warm clothes or houses to live in or law enforcement, but when you dig, you find it's been a long, slow process that humans have been able to finally cut flesh without pain; to prevent babies and children from suffering most childhood diseases; to use electricity for everything; to talk to someone across the road or across the world, in your home. If you think god is behind science, then what was the hold up? Why now?
